Non from Igbo land cheesy
The Obi of Onitsha and those of Nnewi communities must be very disciplined people not to have been dethroned since 1445 and 1500s
Once you mind your business, avoid politics and do not take sides, definitely no body will remember you exist talk more of dethroning. When last did you hear about the obi of onitsha. Except during traditional festival. How many government function have you seen him attending like sanusi. Dude is a ghost.

oba of Benin was dethroned, banished the palace cleared and burned and was replaced with Obaseki.

I know you're Yoruba and you just want to masturbate on something. Now look at that list, the only person on that list removed from his palace by a foreign power is Oba of Benin. Also before the Oba of Benin was deposed, Benin was independent and the British only deposed him after they successfully defeated Benin. Go and read about how they tried making Obaseki Oba in his place. It was strongly resisted. The Journey of a crown Prince to the throne is about 3 months. Benin people already know their next Oba if this one joins his ancestors. The Palace was left in ruins because nobody can stay there except he is Oba. The whole of ringroad belongs to the Oba. The emir of Kano was dethroned and right now another king is in the palace, it never happened in Benin. When Oba Akenzua was playing politics and trying to create the Midwest region out of the Western region, why did Awolowo not dethrone him. No Edo man as a governor will ever dethrone the Oba. 70% of the monarchs in Edo state have their direct lineage to the Palace in one way or the other. So you have cousins and distant cousins of this Oba ruling also as dukes. The federal government might decide to depose him, but it's a waste of time because nobody will be made king till he dies and when he dies, only his son will be made king. There can never be two kings in Benin. One must die for the other to succeed.

There are many silent readers here. Some are highly educated. Even researchers who sometimes contact me.
Yes any king can be dethroned.

Point is that since the king was not appointed by any govt in the first place, dethronement in practice does not exist in Benin in practice. Presentation of staff of office is a mere formality to the Benins, though in accounting with existing secular laws.

Sure, in the distant past there has been dethronement carried out by the nobles when the
king became tyrannical. Even regicide.

The regicide was with Oba Ohen.
The fact is the only people that can remove an Oba is the Edo people, and even when they do it, it will still be his son or one of his sons. The power of a king is in the way his people carry him. Edo people carry their Oba pass anything.

The military administrator was just unfortunate thinking everything is just by gun. If it was a Yoruba military administrator or the like of Awolowo that dethroned Oba of Benin. Trust me. Nothing would have happened. It would all be voodoo vs voodoo.
Awolowo would dethrone Oba of Benin and nothing would happen
Since he was so much potent why didnt he dethrone Oba Akenzuwa when the latter was at the vanguard for creation of mid-western Region? Awo would hv regretted his action had he dare. You think Oba is selected and rotated among ruling families as obtainable in Yorubaland?

She is on her way to sixty. Retired police officer. Saw her one day and she dressed like an early 20 babe in the university and I told her if she is in Nigeria, she will be mistaken as a prostitute.
She was so mad. Was wondering why she was mad. She dont know we dont paint words. We say it as we see or feel it

In the real sense Igbo's were people with no king, all these obi's igwe's was forced upon us by the colonial masters in order to control the Igbo's easily the Yoruba's , northerners had powerful kings that were worshiped by their people making it easy for them to be colonized it took 30 plus years to colonize the Igbo's

Before the coming of the British, kingship already exists in Igboland.

I read all your argument with the other dude. Igbo generally do not have kings so to speak. Picking Obi of Onitsha and Eze Nri two just from all the groups that make up the entire Igbo nation is an indication that Kingship is not an Igbo thing.

If I may ask you can you tell me the reach of Obi of Onitsha?

Under which kingdom is the present day Nsukka or Nkanu or Umuahia people are in?

You will start calling the names of the their new Igwe which like the other guy pointed out earlier on, were a function of British indirect rule. The kingship of Obi of Onitsha mirrors that of Oba of Benin which in terms of distance are not really far from each other. In typical interior of Igbo land before now they have ozo whom formed the committee of ndi iche which is not a title bestow on anyone based on birth or hereditary but on achievements like being the best hunter, distinguished farmer etc.

What concerns obi of onitsha with nsukka?

Oga Anambra state communities has deep rooted monarchial system even before the whitemen arrived.

Obi of onitsha....same as Nnewi and other communities. There was nothing like warrant chiefs here but rather the British adopted the already existing kingship.

Igbo doesn't have monarch. They were republican in nature, na Britiko introduced warrant chiefs to them, and these warrant chiefs later became Igwe after they left. Note that most of the warrant chiefs were people that were once banished from their various communities due to one or two crimes, taboo committed, the white men imposed them on Igbo communities to help them collect taxes. These warrant chiefs were brutish due to how they were treated before their banishment, their atrocities led to the Aba women riot......

Well I don't know the kingless state you are from.

But in Anambra state, most towns before the whitemen arrived already has a well structured kingship system.

The British didn't impose warrant chief on any them but worked with the king's.
