Cristiano Ronaldo will remain in his native Madeira after Juventus confirmed that defender Daniele Rugani has tested positive for coronavirus.

Juventus have confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo will not return to Turin for the time being and will remain in his native Madeira.

“Cristiano Ronaldo has not trained and remains in Madeira awaiting events to unfold with the current health emergency,” Juventus said in a statement following the squad's training session on Wednesday.

The news comes following confirmation that Juventus defender Daniele Rugani has tested positvie for coronavirus.

Ronaldo had travelled to Madeira on March 9 for the second time in recent days to visit his mother, Dolores Aveiro, who suffered a stroke earlier this month, following Juventus’ clash with Inter on Sunday, which was played behind closed doors. The Juventus star had also travelled home to celebrate his sister's birthday.

Soon after, the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), decided to suspend all sports at the national level in Italy, including Serie A, amid the worsening health crisis caused by coronavirus.

Ronaldo will remain in Madeira
Ronaldo was given permission from the club to travel and has been in Madeira for three days, which was longer than expected.

His mother, according to the Italian press, has practically recovered following the stroke but until the situation in Italy improves, the striker will remain in his hometown of Funchal, along with the rest of his family.

As reported by Tuttosport, Cristiano Ronaldo had received special permission to return to Italy on a private flight from Portugal, despite the restrictions on travel in and out of Italy, and was expected to be in training this Thursday. However, the Juventus squad have been placed in quarantine after Rugani tested positive for COVID 19.

In what could become another potentially bad news for the global image of Nigeria among the international community, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, has arrested thirteen Nigerians (7 Yoruba’s, 6 Igbo), over alleged $30 million money laundering scheme in the United States.

Disclosing this in a statement obtained by Thecable, the US department of justice said federal agents arrested 24 suspects for their involvement in the large-scale fraud which targeted citizens, corporations, and financial institutions throughout the country.

This worrisome development could not have come at a worse time than now, considering how Nigeria is frantically making efforts to free her name from the list of countries recently slammed with travel ban by the US government.

Whatever gain Nigeria might have made towards disentangling herself from the travel ban is likely to be severely negated by this latest show of shame from her unscrupulous citizens caught in the latest fraud scandal.
