Meninmen: Bros, stop arguing this nonsense. All you are talking about is History. Sounds like Things fall Apart when Okonkwo was defending their Gods and customs. This is 2020, the Governor can order the removal and dethronement of the Oba, right now and nothing will happen. Lucky sued the Oba and he went to court even with the "Oba no dey go court" history. Its just because Lucky is not daring or crazy enough to want to ridicule the Oba. The only argument you will argue and i will agree with is "Obaseki" understands and respects the Benin tradition and has a lot of respect for the stool irrespective of who occupies it. Yes, that i will agree with and for that reason, things will be handled amicably, but don't ever say "It can never happen"., you should have said it under Abacha naa, dem go dethrone the Oba to Ijebu Ode in a heartbeat. Also, i hope that nonsense of burying people when the Oba dies is a myth or no longer in practice? Most especially with social media and the new world order, if they should try that one, your king makers will go to jail oh. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

davidnazee: Are you kidding me now?? See desperation!! How you concluded that such random Facebook account is officially binding is still beyond me. Go back to my comment and re-read where I intentionally used the phrase "officially ... in Nigeria"; not just any random post on Facebook. Sorry, but you lost your battle against reality. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Any king whose rulership depend of the whims and caprices of a sitting governor is an audio King. Give respect to the Oba of Benin. Whoever is the Edo state governor, no matter how angry he is against the oba can't think of dethroning him. Never. Even as the Benin people are, they already know their next King (the first son of the current oba), even though they may not know him in person as he is usually hidden from public eyes and usually far away from his father. The man will just perform some traditional rites to become oba. He doesn't need any certificate of office from any Governor or selection by King makers. 4 Likes 1 Share |

tofolo: This picture is not a matter of respect, it shows a prayer session in the prayer ground. The emir is on a seat, probably because he may be sick or to frail to be standing up & down for the Muslim prayers. Kneeling or prostration in some Nigerian communities is cultural, the Fulani forbade the Hausas from observating their original pre-jihad cultures, while leaving themselves to continue.. Fulani still do the 'sharo' & all types of cultural events, keep long exposed, plaited hairs in men & women & many Fulani women still move around, half nakked, and no Islamic authority challenges them . 1 Like |

Organs: What Is this one saying? If you are ignorant, then keep quite. Each state is governed by laws when it comes to Traditional institutions and I can tell you in the Edo state chieftaincy law, the governor has no power to dethrone the oba of Benin. It is not within his power. If it was, Lucky igbinedion would have done that a long time ago when he was governor and was having issues with the late oba. Even when he dragged the oba to court, the oba never appeared in court. The matter was killed b4 it even started and him and his father had to apologize to the late Oba Stay Nairaland to argue wetin you nor know 5 Likes 1 Share |

Curtsy is different from Kneeling. Cursty: A curtsy is a traditional gesture of greeting, in which a girl or woman bends her knees while bowing her head. It is the female equivalent of male bowing or genuflecting in Western cultures Kneeling: Kneeling is a basic human position where one or both knees touch the ground. farem: 1 Like

davidnazee: First of all: You're bragging emptily before the wrong person. Secondly: I've just demonstrated to you that in Nigeria, the Oba of Benin is NEVER officially styled as "His Imperial Majesty". It just has never happened before. Rather his styling is: "His Royal Majesty" just as several other Tom, Dick, and Harry. What evidence, proof, or reason do you then have in defense of your earlier grandoise misappropriation to the Oba of Benin, if you still stand by it?? Thirdly: I've stated that only the Ooni of Ife has the exclusive official right, in Nigeria, to the styling "His Imperial Majesty". Your random Facebook "rejoinder" as has been pointed out holds no water as it has zero weight in official traditional matters in Nigeria. You also seem to have seen that light for your silence on that matter in your comeback. Lastly: Regarding who is supreme and imperial between the two monarchs: Permit me to educate you on what you probably have never heard before. There are tons of established evidence (in academia) demonstrating without a shred of doubt that the Ooni of Ife is suzerain, imperial, and divine over Benin kingdom and its Oba. I will point out two of the simplest and clearest of these tons of evidence: 1. The kings of Benin kingdom paid homage to the Ooni of Ife. Refer to time-stamp 47:16 to 49:00 in the BBC/British Museum History & Art documentary below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQY_Jd--pwI&t=2070s 2. The kings of Benin kingdom regard the Ooni of Ife as their god in human flesh. In fact, Omo N'Oba Erediauwa I in his 2004 work "The Benin-Ife Connection" noted that in Benin kingdom the Ooni of Ife was called "Oghene" --- What does "Oghene" mean in your language?? Refer below to Margaret Plass in "The Art of Benin: An Evaluation Based on Discussions with William Fagg, Deputy Keeper of Ethnography in the British Museum." "... Oba Oguola --- supposed to have reigned about A.D. 1280 --- applied to his spiritual overlord, the Oni of Ife, for the service of a bronze founder to teach his people..." 6 Likes 2 Shares |
