As we move forward into the year, the rains gradually return and soon it will be planting season. This newbie is excited to get my first real move into commercial agriculture. Fingers crossed. I'll be uploading the progress regularly to teach and be taught so lets be positive on this thread. 1 Like |

Mrkellz: Well done. What's the size? Intended plant population? |
Re: My Fresh Pepper Project. by Mrkellz: 4:21pm On Mar 09, 2020 |
tpben: I actually do not know how large it'll be yet. Im thinking of starting off with 10 plots, then plant among some plantain and young palms maybe up to 30 plots. The land is available, its the funds that'll determine that. I'll be planting shombo, not rodo. Im more interested in disease resistance and ruggedity than hybrid yield so no hybrid fresh pepper. I'll also plant maize. 1 Like |

So far I've not been able to get an accurate test cuz of being stretched too far. But i did a few and transplanted at 2months, didnt care much for the seedlings but after transplanting im seeing production at 5 weeks, flowering was less than 2 weeks ago. Pics to follow |

Mrkellz: Nice. Sorry how did you source your pepper seeds? |
Re: My Fresh Pepper Project. by Mrkellz: 4:48pm On Mar 09, 2020 |
healthserve: I sourced from the open market. I've done that twice and they did good. I think feeding is what matters most. I once saw a friends plamt producing up to 15 at once with about 5 ripe fruits but that waw a virgin land. I'll upload pics tomorrow. I thought i snapped it but it was the cayenne i snapped. |

healthserve: Bro, how much did you buy your 20 acres and which location? |
Re: My Fresh Pepper Project. by healthserve(m): 9:50am On Mar 23, 2020 |
emmaodet: I don't want to disclose my location sorry. Budget 6m or 2m depending on location. Proximity to Lagos matters |
Re: My Fresh Pepper Project. by Mrkellz: 8:23pm On Mar 23, 2020 |
healthserve: That's cool. Cayenne and chilli peppers are more rugged than the normal fresh pepper. Although I've noticed as the new rains come some of the dried pepper plants with infections are showing no signs of infection. At least for now. I think most Serious pepper infections (not necessarily diseases) are soil borne. |
