I don't know why some people feel Toronto is only accessible from the GTA. You can live outside the GTA and still work in Toronto. Cities like Guelph and Cambridge offer cheaper housing options, lower crime rate and more family friendly neighborhoods and people live in these cities and still work in Toronto.
Most Toronto jobs are laptop jobs and i have not seen anyone who works in Toronto that does not work from home for 2 days in a week, it seems like the standard practice. When i worked in Toronto, i worked Monday, Tuesdays and Thursdays in the office and Wednesdays and Fridays from home so i use those 2 days work from home to cover for the stress of the 3 days. Cambridge to Toronto is roughly an hour 10 mins or so and so, what i do is to read and develop myself all through the journey .
I leave my house by 7am drive to the Greyhound bus stop, park my car at their parking lot and take the 7.15am bus to Toronto. Hit the office by 8.30, work and leave the office by 4pm to catch Cambridge Greyhound 4.30pm bus and arrive Cambridge by 6pm, drive my car back home and arrive by 6.10pm. It is stressful compared to those living around the GTA with less commute time. However, that commute time going and coming was the time i completed some online courses that helped me get to where i am today . There is free wifi and charging ports in greyhound buses so what i do immediately i enter the bus is to bring out my laptop, connect to the internet and start reading. That commute time gives any serious person a complete 2 hours daily for self development, not many people have that opportunity.

@Kenn55, i totally agree with you. Just that you have to ensure there is a direct commute. Not like you work in Brampton and then live in London. Oyo for you. If you have kids, you want a parent to be working nearby just in case they call from the school or daycare and you need to be there in a jiffy.

Nice that you're focusing on the positive. But I won't be surprised if those in GTA also spend 1HR+ when one considers rush hour traffic. Just that they're driving and you're not.

I won't be surprised if 3k in Calgary will rent a 5 bedroom house with all the works (garage, stainless steel appliances etc) . But I guess you guys earn more in Toronto so it all pans out in the end.

I'd definitely have to wait till Friday morning before I decide to postpone my flight or not. I really wish all this can be over in no time.

I don't think there is any amount of travel ban that would stop this virus from coming into any country. The only way any country would have prevented this situation would have been to close her borders to all countries of the world the moment it started escalating in China. Banning some countries and leaving out some is not going to prevent the virus from coming in. For example, when the US banned China, it is possible that the virus came in through another country. It just takes somebody from say Spain who has not been to China but has unknowingly had contact with a person who had been to China before coming into the US. Bust since they person has not been to China, you let him in and he starts infecting people without anyone knowing. This is exactly how the infections started in those countries that started the ban on travelers.

So whether Canada followed suit in restricting travels at that time or not, it would have still come in. However, the only difference is that it would have bought the country more time. Probably where we were last 2 weeks would have been where we would have been today and where we are today would have been where would be in the next 2 weeks. This is because it would have reduced the number of people bringing in the virus which would translate to fewer cases of infection as against a situation where the virus was been brought in from left, right and center of the world.

My 1bdr apartment goes for 1200 cad and I couldn't help but thank God for such a cheap apartment lol, the dude was looking at me like I was crazy. One thing I could even be more grateful for is that the apartment is so massive you can literally make it a three bedroom, or even set up a photography studio. Such size you will never find in Toronto.

I and a friend live in a 2 bedroom apartment in London and we pay $1,275 monthly. This excludes monthly charge for WiFi ($30 - unlimited for virgin mobile), hydro ($27), washing and drying of cloths ($2.5 for washing and $2.5 for drying).

And yes, most people from Toronto are now moving to london which has made price of buying and renting of houses so expensive.

Check their website. If it’s not possible now, do it when you arrive. It’s worth casting your net wide: Amazon, grocery stores and the like (such as food / grocery delivery services like Instacart; etc.) are all facing high temp labour needs, and will be for at least the next few weeks. Check company websites, temp agencies, go to stores, etc.

Note that their supply chains (the guys who actually make the high demand items, or package them, or transport them to the stores and warehouses) are also facing the same increased labor demand. That could be another option as well.

Pls was your friend on a direct flight or connecting through Ireland? I guess the question is if you have a direct flight to Canada... in my case from the UK. Will i be allowed to land with my CoPR? I assume with CoPR air canada may allow me to board anyway... but just not sure.

I live in Burnaby! Living in Burnaby or anywhere in the lower mainland or metro Vancouver (Which also includes Burnaby ) is generally expensive compared to what you will get in another similar province. I dont know with respect to other provinces in Canada as per jobs but the average person has sthg that they get their hands on and are doing.

I and a friend was discussing about moving to smaller towns with 3000 population. But some friends are discouraging it. I read in a journal that there are jobs in those smaller towns and cities, great urban life, cheaper accommodation for immigrants. But some of us love the bigger cities where we watch skyscrappers beautify our eyes. I'm still in Nigeria, but considering moving to smaller towns with population less than 10k when i get to canada.
