The song by Enoch was used as a Pan-African anthem during the struggle for independence starting with the ANC. Due to its influence in the struggle era, Tanzania adopted a Swahili version of the song in 1961 as the national anthem after gaining independence becoming the first African country do use the song on an official level till this date. With the role played by Tanzania during the Southern African liberation, some countries later adopted it or part of it as their national anthem and 1994 South Africa adopted the first part of the song into their national anthem.
The song was adopted not because of the song was better but rather because it already held a pan-african value and because then everyone believed Africa was one and colonial boundaries don't separate them.
