Do you think a shutdown is feasible in Nigeria?

Shutdown is feasible anywhere to prevent the spread.

They wouldn't find it very easy to close market in Nigeria. See what is happening in Kenya because market was told to close.

The world seems to be starting capitalist socialism where there is capitalism but the country takes care of its citizens. Helicopter money we will see soon could involve even paying salaries like the suggestion from Denmark. This means that economic output will be zero but money will still be made/spent. This is to reduce unemployment and continue to spur spending.

End point will be massive inflation.

UK govt will pay 80% wages of those that would have been laid off as a result of Covid. The self employed too want more help. The liquidity after this season will be high. Even financial institutions are deferring mortgage payments for three months, they've termed it 'mortgage holiday'. Onifa, please continue your good work of shedding light on these matters. Naysayers have a role to play too.

Yes.

US, EU and Japan deployed QE because they all had deflation (negative inflation). Prices were not rising so they needed to spend themselves out from it. So lots of money chasing few assets. This was from 2008 till 2016 before they started to tighten.

Now there is a health crisis and it has caused an economic STOP globally. You need to help businesses and the people as well. They need to spend because they are out of job. After this health issue stops, you are in a world with excessive cash. If not managed well, lots of people will take the cheap loans and bid everything. Later it will cause inflation.

How will fed react? Increase interest rates? Those with loans gets wiped out instantly. Assets will be sold off globally. Exchange rate will depreciate globally. Everybody Oso Abiola!

Just before Corona reached our small island, ALL the banks had just uniformly increased their overdraft charges from 'whatever low figure it was to 40%), mind you inflation rate was/is still below 2%. If this scenario plays out, oh well!!

When all banks are shut down, with no cash in ATM, technically that mean business in Nigeria has been shutdown.

Market women will still be selling, but most commercial activities will be grounded with that move.
Most stocks tomorrow will be on full offer.

On a serious note now bro, it seems you're creating unnecessary panic where there's none.

No one have died of COVID-19 yet in Nigeria.
Something is fishy.

Please Don't make it worse than it is.

Moreover every decline on fundamentally sound stocks is an opportunity for longtime investors to increase their stakes and make more money.

Like Oracle and others have rightly said, the lower it falls, the better.
Fingers crossed.

My Oga’s, kindly answer this question to save new investors like us from Bp.i bought into zenith bank stock at 12.60k, Can ones portfolios be wiped out if the price of stock drops lower than expected even though I have intention of buying more to average down . Kindly advise in the face of recent happenings so I can feel fine .

When you talk, it will sound as if you are against divergent view. The guy is only sharing fear and panic. Then you ask yourself to what end . living in fear is worst than fear it self. This guy case is becoming worrisome. It is beyond NSE activities

I believe equity investment is NOT meant for everyone.
As many that will not be able to bear a drawdown (whichis inevitably avoidable), should kindly look for other forms of investments out there.

Nevertheless everyone should stick to what works best for him and we're responsible for every investment decision we make.
My candid advice though.

It is well.

BARGAIN HUNTERS, TAKE NOTE!

There is liquidity in some countries now.I don't think stocks will fall tomorrow.we have long expected devaluation. It is a good one to Fpi but bad news for Nigerians due to inflation.

If the intervention funds keep floating, the support will hold and give room for 5-10% on weekly.

My question now is how long will they continue floating in a situation that is getting worse?

12.6 for zenith is never a bad buy no matter d happenings provided there's no urgent need of d fund. Just chill n watch it from here. Save d fund at hand ready to deploy if NSE is seriously hit. Where it moves not we sing praises! Just my take

The stock is good at your purchased price but you see every one is shifting bids backwards (better price) willing to take advantage of any positive announcement.

We believe the Fpi will come into the market like a thief and they will place most stocks on full bids for many days before releasing them for you at full offer.

This is one of the reasons I leave some cash with my broker for easy transaction.

I am still learning from onifa at this point when all FA and TA are defied.

Welcome.

First, you need the read this thread from October last till date. This period contains lots of information about what is going on with the Market right now and the future.

Second, the Market is on downward trend, for investors this is the right time to take position.
But always read this thread and ask questions before buying.

Finally, open a Stock broken account.

Your time horizon is where your answer lies. If you have a long term (a subjective use) horizon, you should be fine due to your entry price. If you have a short term horizon, how short is short? Could it sell for less? Yes. Could it also go up? Yes. However, only two people can give you the perfect answer -God and a liar. Keep this question in mind: Is Zenith a sound, fundamental stock? if you answer in the affirmative, then don't worry about the price drop.

Hope this helps.
