I believe it will help for 2 reasons:

1. President said in his speech they are adopting model used by countries that have managed to curtail this thing - East Asia.

2. Government taking instruction from the local CDC. They did the maths, came up with projections, etc etc.

What could be best was to block people from traveling from infected provinces like Gauteng to other uninfected places like EC,and others.
Also the old folks in high risk areas should be separated from their families,because as we know a corona virus is more kind to younger folks but it hates the old folks,so putting old folks in isolation was the best option especially those in Gauteng.

Yes you will enjoy Zanzibar. But I doubt if you won't return.Island life is quite slow.So,for a folk from a big metropole will enjoy island life with all those fine white sands beaches in those few early weeks and later on will just feel is missing something.

1. In the case of democracy Vs authoritarianism:
Once the President declared a State of Disaster it automatically meant South Africans lost some of their liberties. Plus the army is being roped in to enforce the lockdown. So people are gonna abide, trust me. The 2008 xenophobic attacks were ended by the army.
