However no one is really debating the fact that there should be better fiscal responsibility in terms of bailouts and tax relief for the elite, or in terms of greater social responsibility in return from the elite. The problem people had with the initial poster was his claim that billionaires should not exist or that the existence of a billionaire is a pointer to a failed system.


Socialism as an experiment failed in the Soviet Union, China, and in Cuba. It has become abundantly clear that capitalism with a little mix of social justice is the bedrock of a progressive society.
Expecting more social responsibility from billionaires is reasonable, claiming that their very existence is incongruous with a successful society is not.

I totally accept social capitalism is the way forward, however countries that have practiced variants of this like the Scandinavian countries and even the UK under Tony Blair's Third Way, like Nihilist alluded to, still produced billionaires. Any reasonable taxation system even with ultra-progressive taxation will still produce billionaires.

Why can’t govt. ensure that these corporations pay their workers living wage? Paid sick leave, bonuses and other consemurate allowances? They will still remain billionaires but some of their wealth would have trickled down to a lot of people.
