Please can someone enlighten us on how the different bodies responsible for rating institutions in the UK arrive at their figures and rankings. Maybe if we know the yardstick for placing one above the other, it can help prospective students make a choice decision on which school to settle for regardless of their rankings having set their priorities.

Seems majority of you are in Business related courses or Science.if you are a graduate from the Arts. You won't find accredited courses in the arts.

Are you now saying that Art Graduates should not apply for a postgraduate program in the UK? When they have skill shortages in the art industry.

As for UK universities ranking I agree with you.

In my Opinion, go for MSC in Cyber Security at Teesside University. The course is specifically listed on the shortage list for IT workforce.
If you are experienced in IT, explore certification exams and training in security vendors link Palo Alto, Checkpoint, Cisco, Fortinet.

Internationals too thinking they have sense will be rushing for two year programs just to buy more time in the “abroad”. Las las you will realise that the second year was not really worth the extra tuition. Two years is only handy if you’re going to work to pay off your tuition & you don’t want to be under much pressure. That’s all, nothing else.

The only one they can help you with it’s study abroad but you will be the one to do the uni & visa applications. Then again most internationals don’t utilise this opportunity because they’re either still owing tuition & need to work or they’re just not ready to stress themselves with the whole wahala of moving abroad

Applying for placement is same as applying for a job. Only difference is that placement is temporary as it’s part of your studies ****

As mentioned earlier, you will constantly get placement adverts from the university.

So it’s your job to update your CV & apply for these placements. You can also via indeed and other graduate jobs sites.

You should also update your LinkedIn and send applications from there.

Attend Job Fairs with plenty copies of your updated CV & share to prospective employers.

Make connections with your fellow course mates.

Volunteer as much as you can to enhance your CV or work experience.

If your university offers free language classes, utilise the opportunity.

Then always pray & hope for the best.

Like I said earlier, internationals tend to think two years is better because it buys them more time per say.

Well it does, to some extent but it’s not really worth it in the long run.

What internationals don’t understand is that even if you do 2 years Msc, if you don’t have employable relevant skills/experience,Nigeria will be awaiting you.

EU/British people barely do 2 years.
Universities are cashing out on gullible internationals big time.

Now they’re going to increase IHS fees from £300 to £620. So if they’re going for two years, that’s £620 x 2 which you will pay upfront in addition to your visa fees. When I arrived Uk, it was only £75 per year now it’s going to £620. These people don’t rate us o.

No offence but most people will end up doing menial jobs all through their two years post study visa. They just want blacks to be doing work that their citizens aren’t really interested in eg care work. Sad truth is that many will still go back to Nigeria or use their savings to continue studying.

U.K. is not a bed of roses but once you are here, thinking of going back to Nigeria after all the money spent, will just make you continue drowning in debts to stay back legally.

A friend just got offer of £9,250 instead of £13,750 for one year programme. My guy said no he wants two years which is £14,200 instead of £18k about I had to hold myself to not call him a fool. People should be wise please.

Some were either self employed or working with small business. Nothing to really write home about. Some companies don’t value Nigerian work experience except you worked in big organisations.

Two years is only good if one can really dedicate time to finding a relevant part time work & volunteer often to add as well.

Now someone that’s studying civil engineering will be doing care work or mental health just to pay bills (because those are the easiest jobs to get). You go to these companies with a CV full of Nigerian work experience and upon that, your current job does not even relate to what you’re studying. They will look at you as a joke.

I usually recommend the study abroad option or compulsory internships if one is going for a two years master programme.

Yes In terms of tuition some of them charge about £850 or so but most of them actually charge way more up to £3k. Plus the ones that charge £850 already have expensive one year tuition from £14k. It’s all marketing strategy per say

Well , going for 2yrs program may be a waste of time if doing menial jobs is the reason but if upgrading yourself is the reason then you are good to go . Here are my reasons.
1. During your first year, you may like to focus more on your studies without learning extraordinarily

2. For IT students, the 2nd year maybe used to read and sit for international certifications to add to your CV e.gCIsco CyberOps Associate
CCNP Security
CCIE Security
Certified Ethical Hacking Certification
GIAC Penetration Tester
Offensive Security Certified Professional
The first 2 can be written in the pace of 6 months
where the last 3 can be written in a space of one month . It's like(using one stone to kill birds)

I presently work in a psychiatric hospital as a mental health worker, so I felt since those who would go through either the one year or two year masters program in my intending course would still get to become members of the same British professional body irrespective of duration of program upon graduation and moreover I intend utilizing my weekly 20 hours working in a mental health facility which am already used to, that serving as a paid placement for me.

Your work and studies obviously correlate so you’re good to go.

I was referring to students studying a course that’s completely different but working in the mental health sector because it pays well & it’s quite easy to get. You’re even lucky that you will get to become part of the BPB. Most people work under agencies that won’t even give references or certificates to support your work experience.

Some schools don’t allow that though. They give students a period to find placement like 12 weeks or less and if the student doesn’t find one, the school would convert the two years program to one year.

Don't regard it as discouraging but rather giving you a clearer view of what is ahead, so you don't regret spending so much £££ on undesired outcome. It gives you the opportunity to fine tune your plans.

All of them, including their training and certification will not cost more than 3m(naira).

all will cost 2.8m(naira) the gain will gene-rationally over-worth the cost
