The situation in major countries hit by the coronavirus is so bad to the extent that Italy seem to have given up all human endeavors towards solving the problem associated with the pandemic. New York on the other hand is grappling with how to cope with the ever rising number of cases. If the tables were somehow turned and Nigeria or other African countries were in the situation they are in now, the western media would have swamped on it and created documentary after documentary on why the poor healthcare in African was the cause of the pandemic and would have sponsored all the negative press against us whether or not the situation is our fault or not. The effect of all of these is that Africans have now developed a very low self esteem of themselves even they will be the first to deny it, but the facts speak for themselves. Africans have been so brainwashed that they have no sense of national pride and wait for the west to define a situation and they absolve it hook and sinker. Africans are ready to replace a practical working system and replace it with a system that may work in theory just because they have been told so by those they consider their superiors. China was once like that until they looked themselves in the face under the leadership of Mao and decided they would play no second fiddle to no man or nation and began to chart a course for themselves using some of the advantages they have. Everyday, people make unfavorable comparison with some of these countries without as much as discounting for some of the major differences that is influenced by our respective cultures and situation. 2 Likes |

The Nigerian govt did nothing special to keep the death rate low on Nigeria , it's obvious for some reason the Virus is not able transmit and scale as fast as it does in other climes , if most of the American patients are moved to isolation here they will immediately get well . |

The only thing that will save us is a miracle. From the perception of “educated” people alone about the virus, it’s safe to say it has landed and is spreading quickly and quietly. We don’t read at all. People don’t even know that it could take up to five days before symptoms begin to manifest. Right now, as usual, we’re more concerned about hunger than any other thing. But remember, hunger feels better without disease. With disease, I doubt the feeling can be explained. Educate your environment, it’s an obligation. 1 Like |

I was having this same conversation this morning with a friend...hmm...we would have poured vituperation and cursed to high heaven on how our government is bla bla bla as some actually feed off this kind of news! The issue with us is this pervasive low self esteem, where we feel we can't handle issues on our own until some white man gives us a thumbs up. We are now forced to confront our fears and we are doing a good job taking care of this situation! We did it with Ebola, Covid 19 will go the same with minimal casualties! 1 Like |

Rather than see the figures coming out from the West and act wisely to put in all efforts to screen and test travelers from affected countries, your govt did nothing. There was so much effort put in place by the govt's army of online propagandists to dismiss the seriousness of this pandemic and it reaching our shores. In 2-3 weeks when you begin to see an exponential explosion in cases and deaths, then you will know that your partisan work at BMC will not save you. You will get the same useless non-existing treatment at the hospices that you shamelessly call hospitals. |

FSBoperator:let those who have ears listen. No European country got where are now with the virus in 1month. Check how long it took or how many confirmed cases they had before recording their first loss. My guess is we’re even moving faster with death rate... I don’t think it’s up to a month ago when the uk and USA recorded their first losses but look where they are now. Africans be wise! |

GamalNasser: Bro, this virus defies all conventional logic as to what we know of viruses. Transmitability is inversely proportional to virulence. Ebola remained in the Congo - isolated and remote Congo River community, because patients began showing symptoms withing 2-3 days and then become bed ridden for an average of one month. The perfect virus needs to be very tame on the carrier if it wants to be spread effectively. This virus has all the hallmarks of HIV as it remains dormant for long after being exposed to it. The infected individual those not know he or she is infected and even when not showing any symptoms, they remain highly infectious. What made me give up hope on this country was when they deployed scan thermometers at the airports. Did the Doctors at NCDC not advice on blood testing instead of thermometer scanning. We honestly pray for the best but as things stand now, we are yet to see the worse case globally until 2-3 weeks and by that time Lagos will be making the news as the epicenter. 2 Likes |

GamalNasser:Nothing changed, the truth is we are finding ourselves in exactly the same situation most of these countries found themselves. Initially the numbers are low then you then you are in control while it spread fast until the numbers keep coming and you are overwhelmed. Though my theory is if the protein molecules on the virus is that exposed then it will be highly susceptible ultraviolet ray from the sun which might make it not to survive outside of an host for long 1 Like |

Africa countries are hardly hit by natural disasters but Artificial disasters instead. We create our problems by ourselves. Obiano that claimed FG should give him N1bn is already claiming of being in Isolation. How about Gov Makinde that had rally almost 2 weeks ago, so they are just bringing the results since then. We should probably be expecting more Governors to claim they are coronavirus positive |

I feel you. Sometimes I want to think the spread cannot be controlled but China did it. If China could, the why couldn't the western countries with all their sophistication? To call a spade its real name, they all failed somehow. I know of a president who first dismissed the virus as a hoax, then began downplaying its seriousness and later was exchanging banters with a governor who asked for his help in fighting the virus. Donald J. Trump. How incompetent can one be? As it is now, there is nothing they are doing that we are also not doing within our power to combat the virus. If you take our climate there and bring theirs here, you will still get the same result. But as the op rightly said, inferiority complex will kill us. Even within the country, some people still fell inferior to others |

Italy has 11,500 official deaths at the moment, Nigeria has just 2 official deaths. My question is, if it was Italy that had 2 deaths and Nigeria or even Africa as a whole having that large value, would the low esteem of you and your folks not kicked in and started saying things "in a saner world", "developed countries", "advanced countries" etc. That is what I am talking, instead you guys keep wishing your nation bad forgetting that when you throw stones to the market, there is no guarantee that it will not hit one of your own.
