Buhari signs COVID-19 regulations to enforce lockdown in Lagos, others

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has signed the COVID-19 Regulations 2020, declaring coronavirus a dangerous infectious disease.

In a statement on Monday night in Abuja, the Presidency said Buhari acted in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Sections 2, 3 and 4 of the Quarantine Act (CAP Q2 LFN 2004), and “all other powers enabling him in that behalf”.

The statement, which was signed by his spokesman, Mr Femi Adesina, added, “The Regulations, effective March 30, 2020, also gave legal backing to the various measures outlined in the President’s National Broadcast on March 29, 2020, such as restriction/cessation of movement in Lagos, FCT and Ogun State and others toward containing the spread of the pandemic in the country.

People don't take time to read and digest Prof. point of view, he never disagree with lockdown but he was trying to address the process before successors will take it as yardstick for future event without proper conduct. What an elder sees sitting, kids will not see on 30 story building.

In what ways has d president done d following?:

"On 28 January 2020, the Federal government of Nigeria assured citizens of the country of its readiness to strengthen surveillance at five international airports in the country to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The government announced the airports as Enugu, Lagos, Rivers, Kano and the FCT.[4] The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control also announced same day that they had already set up coronavirus group and was ready to activate its incident system if any case emerged in Nigeria.[5]"

In simple English, it means regardless of how you feel about the government's actions, you should do what is best for you and your family.

How about that for simple English?

I won't lie. This lockdown can't even be sustainable for 5 days. We like copying oyibo but can't even do it well.
How can u lock down a place so big without providing social welfare for the people. What about people that survive on daily earnings? The other countries that lock down, provide food, money and other benefits for their people, but mumu leaders will just want to lock people up just like that.
From day 5, people will start running out from their houses, it's better the "audio" corona virus kills them than hunger to kill them.
Buhari had the time and opportunity to just quarantine and isolate just few travellers coming in, but he didn't, now he wants to lockdown over 30million people. Medicine after death

Sense dey your head. I give it maximum next week Monday the Lockdown will collapse

At the end of the day after ranting on and on about irrelevant issues, what are you going to do? Obey or disobey government order and expose yourself and your family?

Sounds like you just love to here yourself rant and babble on and on.

Honestly at this point in time i either think the man is senile ot his advisers are mad.

As far back as January ending when this thing was getting rampant people were calling for greater measures to isolate people from high risk countries but nah our silly government told us they were free to go isolate themselves at home. No follow ups by government, no checks to see if they were actually self isolating. Must have been the dumbest thing i heard in the last decade.

Now we have a big issue on our hands and they want to use a bucket of water to kill a market fire.

No one is carrying out testing, no sensitization. Just wake up one morning and announce the lock down of states . How many test kits do we have? What measures are in place to get more ventilators? Any palliatives for Citizens? Niger across the borrder just declared free electricity and water for the month of April and May but no not our government instead Buhari takes incompetence and lack o foresight to another level honestly.

God bless you. There was no warning, no hint or even a grace period for people to prepare for the lockdown. We are too reactive as a nation . Our leaders will sit back and watch a situation deteriorate to a bad state before they act . Same as attitude is in Nigerians .
Visionless lot .

I started my Lockdown two weeks ago before the official Lockdown because I saw it coming. This virus spreads like wide fire faster than ebiola and its very dangerous. Thank God for the office for where I work we shut down when confirmed cases increased to 30 or something. We knew its lore than that. What about the people that have it, don't know and keep spreading. We decided before it becomes a crisis let's all be with our families and stay safe. All stock my house before the first Lagos shut down. My slogan this period is NA WHO DEY ALIVE THEY CHOP MONEY. If this affects the poor, no one will help. We don't have the capacity to treat this shit if it spread like Italy. The only cure I know now is to self isolate with my family and stay safe. Hopefully a miracle may happen and a cure will be found

The professor is asking the right questions. Buhari is setting a precedent here, with respect to declaring the restrictions in 2 states. I believe that the outcome may be different if the two states affected had governor's from a different party.

Soyinka taught he was addressing human beings, he has failed to realize that most folks in naija and in naira land have become skeletons in their brains, they are beaten, battered, oppressed, dejected and had failed in their ambitions. How he expects them to understand his logic beats me.

Good questions.
Constitution should be our guidance.
Despite almost all countries in the world are doing shutdown, nigeria should do it with legal backing.

One can see that apc people advice the president to do the shutdown of few states.
So state governors were allowed to do the shutdown of their states themselves and bear the blame.
