Danabu: It's usually pointless trying to diagnose on online a Nigerian used Peugeot vehicle having injection issue that is not physically before me or that I do not physically know the true state of the vehicle, considering how majority of Nigerians abuse their Engines with wrong Engine oils, abuse their Engine cooling systems, abuse or butcher their Engine wiring harnesses, abuse their BSI unit and Engine ECUs, etc, which reflects on how Engine runs and amount of fuel it consumes. For you to replace the Engine and Engine ECU at the same time tells a lot. Whatever killed the former ECU and Engine is/are likely still there in the vehicle, waiting to kill the newly installed one, if it hasn't started (You said it yourself the fuel consumption is too high). Or its possible there is no abuse on the current systems of the vehicle but high fuel consumption signalling a faulty sensor. If you want my free advice? Take the lion to someone that is against lion abuse and understand your lion injection system, to first inspect and correct all abuse on the vehicle (if any) and hopefully fix the current issue. Any auto technician that encourages abuse on lion systems can't help you, for he has nothing to offer in your situation. Ikenna351, Lion King - Monk. 2 Likes |

HOW 2020 ANNIVERSARY OF MY PEUGEOT 406 V6 STICK-SHIFT WENT DOWN Drove the lion into a place and poured his favorite drink into the rear tank. Pulled out my own drink and poured into the stomach. Geared the lion into action towards expressway, where I played with the pedals and gear stick, as my own part, and let the lion do his own part, to do what he knows how to do best: Fun! Each time I am on fun drive with the lion, I hardly use the gear 5 (the gear 5 would seem like overdrive gear on such drive). The Frenchmen may or may not know how to produce the best cars in the world, but they damn well know how to build fun cars. That, you can't take away from them. My relationship with this lion is like man and dog. Unconditional love, even though the car annoys me sometimes. In return, he treats me well when I am behind the Wheel, most of the times. Simply put, we both understand each other, just like pals do. The ES9J4S V6 Engine love to be revved. Thirsty when it does that, but the joy it creates makes that consumption insignificant. Like I said, I hardly go beyond gear 4 on such drive. I mean, I understand why Peugeot used the indestructible DMF on that Engine in D9, instead of solid flywheel, which takes care of vibration from the Engine at those high revs from reaching the stick box. Apart from moment to moment experiences, memories help to perpetuate happiness, since you re-live those experiences as you remember them. Memories are created by choices we individually make. I can't create yours for you. March 2013 was when this Peugeot 406 V6 SV Manual started to share my name too. We were meant to co-create these wonderful memories and experiences together. Just like a dog and his friend/owner, one of them will someday say goodbye to the other. Until that day comes, will always remember the 8 years adventures and fun we have had together and many more ahead. A 20 year old vehicle that has proven to be one of the best reliable and durable wild fun animal Peugeot ever created. It's as if he hasn't aged at all. In fact, it's like the older he becomes, the quicker he is. You are not just a proof or testimony, but you also have shamed the naysayers that tagged Peugeot 406s as problematic vehicles. *UPDATE ON RECOMMENDED ENGINE OILS FOR NEWER PEUGEOT VEHICLES AVAILABLE IN NIGERIA* . Unfortunately, the Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5w-30 (Emission System protection) recommended for most especially the VTi & THP Engines, has not been available since late last year in Nigeria. Unfortunately also, it was the only easily accessible oil for those Engines in entire country (apart from those who can order from PAN Kaduna). There is no other Engine oil I have seen recommended, since production and sale of the PSA vehicles with these Engines in Nigeria. About 10 days now, two Peugeot 508 with loss of power issues were brought to my attention and my diagnosis led to failed Turbochargers, as a result of use of wrong or non recommended Engine oils. These Turbochargers are not cheap. The OEM, the fake new and the used turbochargers are all expensive. Most of these vehicles with these Engines on Nigerian roads are having frequent weak or failing oil pump issues as well, simply because the Engine oils Nigerians put in them are not meant to work well with those oil pumps. It's becoming normal in Nigeria to enter lions with these Engines to find "Insufficient Oil Pressure" warning on instrument panel staring back at you. When oil manufacturers produce new products (Engine oils), they send samples of the oils to Car manufacturers. Then vehicle manufacturers test these oils in their labs to know how good the oils are, if the oils are compatible or good for any of their Engines produced in the past and present, how good the oils can handle low and high rpm without ruining the Engine, how much pressure can the oils take and if they will last long duration of oil change without deteriorating and harm the vehicle engines, etc. These test will determine the Engines they are compatible with or not, or meet exact standards of previous recommended oils. Not every oil sent to PSA for test are recommended for their Engines. The ones that passed their tests will be given certification or approval with codes to be used in specific Engines produced in the past or currently in production, which the oil manufacturers can include in the package/container before sale. Those PSA or Peugeot codes are meant for Lion users who want to use Engine oils tested, certified and recommended by PSA for their Engines. If you choose to buy Engine oil with or without code PSA didn't recommend for your Engine, it means you have taken a risk which may or may not ruin your Engine. Vehicle manufacturers invest a lot of money/capital in conducting these tests. To ignore it is asking for outcome you won't find funny someday. The 2 main Engine oil certifications for THP & VTi Engines from PSA are: 1. Pppppl 2. Ppppp However, I strongly recommend the ppppp, especially for environment like Nigeria. The oil brand is not that important, as long as they have these codes (unless they are fake, which is very possible in Nigeria). Stop buying oil by mere oil grade or weight. Read the instructions on the container. Just because an oil container has pppp written on it doesn't mean the content in that container will work well in PSA EW & ES Engines, even though pppp is recommended for those Engines. Only the ppppp with pppppp can protect those Engines, as far as PSA is concerned, unless you want to gamble with your Engine and sanity. Of course, you can do the test or experiment by yourself with your Engine, to prove Peugeot wrong. If it works for you, good for you. If it doesn't, good for you as well. There are about (*removed*) PAN Kaduna sells Engine oils for these 2 Engines (VTi & THP). Unfortunately, they are unbranded/not labelled. My understanding is that they buy in large quantities for production of vehicles in their plants which they also sell to private individuals interested. So, it won't be fake, except you won't know if it's (*removed*). Though, you could ask them directly, for it's possible they do give the information out to any interested buyer that ask. I am doing my best to get the recommended Total Engine oils for those newer PSA Engines to be available in Nigeria, which are also recommended for some older PSA Engines. But before then, take some personal responsibility to protect your Engine and turbocharger from premature failure. As for the Nigerians that put 20w-50 oils in their THP Engines, I have no comment.
