Parents today compare kids with their peers which is very wrong.. it can be demoralizing and can even initiate suicide.

After I finished school and things were hard, nobody dem no compare me with.. most especially my mother to the extent that sometimes I sit and think of what kind of mother she really is.. oh my friends son now works with Chevron you dey here you never still find your bearing... One of my friends son got a well paying job, got married and drives big Moto you dey here still dey struggle. She even compared me with Yahoo boys claiming they are "hustlers". It got to a stage I was like because of this woman I fit force myself go rob bank one day. Had to vacate the house for them and go look for somewhere else to live. I thank God today, all those years na history now.

As for my dad, that one na chief complainant. Nothing you go do wey fit impress am. He must surely find fault in it. I began to pity his health at a point because no day he no go complain. Petty things he could over look, he must complain. If he tell you make you carry blue pen come, he will still complain why you brought dark blue and not faint blue.. he's a type that will complain why the air he's breathing in ikotun market is not fresh like the one he breathe the last time he went to bar beach. (I'm just trying to give a clearer illustration of his character ) .. that's was how bad he was. Complain complain complain.. I dont even know if he's changed now coz it's been years I visited them at home. We only talk on phone and meet at parties and I send money to them once in a while.

My father will use too much shout and grammar to shut you up, especially when he knows you are telling the truth. He will also make reference to all the mistakes you made in the past to cow you. Then after a while,he will call you up and pretend that such a thing never happened. I ve chossen to break such toxic generational circle. Belittling hurts, invalidation hurts, explosive rage is intimidation, it's scary & hurts really bad. Humiliation hurts. Lack of closure hurts, it's not love, I didn't feel loved when I was treated that way. So I refuse to be that way to my children. & Other people I give care to.

Emm, OCD means obsessive compulsive disorder, it means you like to keep everything in order or properly arranged even when there's no need to, what you just described is the opposite of OCD, I could be wrong but sounds more like AS- Amotivational syndrome which is a lack of care for social activities or task.
Someone with OCD is a perfectionist and would be obsessed with keeping everything clean and intact but someone with AS might be the opposite, he/she might not care enough or at all to keep everything intact kinda like you not caring about cleaning.

I could be wrong, I'm no verified physiologist just a man trying to help.

Shout out to women, I've read all these, from page one to last, and mothers are better than fathers. But there are actually some good men out there, just that they are very scarce. But all you men should learn and be good to your children, the truth is all these men didn't plan to be wicked to their family, but sometimes psychological disturbances, life stress, can make people become what they won't be proud of, for instance, all those that said their fathers were drunkards.
You need to be constantly evaluating yourself, and ask your wives, children what they think about you as a father. Sometimes, it could be heredity as well, my fathers aggression is hereditary, and he tell us every time and thus work on himself. Comparing children sometimes can be natural when we feel frustrated, especially when children are in their teen ages.
We should learn to accept our flaws, it is only then we can work on those flaws.
Sometimes, it could actually be their wives not making them happy, and thus they transfer it to the children.
And many times, abusive children become abusive parents, most of you commenting here would turn out to be just like your parents, in another way because you are dealing with children of another generation, you won't know you are like them because you will be in denial and look for what to blame instead.
Ask your children, or you can even talk to your child's teacher to help you with a secret parental survey if you think your child may not want to tell you the truth.
Don't ever think children are young, they understand everything going on and how you treat their mothers. I understood things since I was age two, how we do in my family. Don't beat your wife, don't curse on them, your children are watching you and would judge you on how you treat their mothers.
Self evaluation is key, learn to stay strong in difficult times, learn to control your emotions, pray to God, marry a good wife, discipline your emotions and wants, understand that children are gifts and you need to be the best for them

You could actually pray for them to be a better person and help them becoming better too. One good thing I learnt in this life is this, if you treat someone the way he is, he will be worse, but if you treat him or her the way he is supposed to be, then he'll be better (speaking for both sexes).

What do I mean, using a dad as an instance, if your dad is stingy, uncaring and hardly gives to you as his child, you may treat him as he is by being angry at him and refusing to render help to him whenever he needs it, this will only make him to be worse (you know two wrongs never make a right). But if you treat your dad as he is supposed to be by showering him with love and care despite his actions towards you, his heart will always prick him and one day, he'll definitely have a rethink and repent from all the wrongs he's done.
