Eizzy003:Yeah i saw it too. even a naija sci fi Ratnik... i hope they gross way above $3mill Grossing and Nollywoood na like Asia to Antartica. They'll get there definitely. Actresses and Actors do need be eclectic though. The Wakanda role still deybpain me. How many of our actresses fit fight taekwando or kungfu to get featured in such movie that needs such. It goes on... Improvements dey. |

JaceBlaze: Yes, shaderoom recommended it, I said let me check it out and it was the worst 1hr+ of my life. I could have wasted it watching that other foolish Indian program that they gave SA actors useless roles I have never seen an SA movie that didn't give me a migraine. It's bad enough that their faces are like copy and paste. 1 Like 1 Share |

daveP:why will our actors need to fight taekwondo and king fu? There are 1 billion Chinese people in the world, they don't need the rest of you replicating their culture I really don't understand why black people are so obsessed with getting the approval of white men. The slavery mentality with you guys is high sha. That is one of the reasons Nollywood is regressing. We went from telling great, relatable African stories like Igodo, Living In Bondage and Egg of Life, to trying to tell European stories using African actors. You can't sell the white man's story to the white man. The sooner Nollywood starts telling African stories again, the better it will be. The only problem Nollywood ever had was with money. There isn't enough capital to secure the effects that you guys love, but every other thing was good. Script writing was top notch, acting was impeccable. Go back and watch all those old movies, and you will gain a newer sense of respect for them. Over 15 years after movies like Osuofia in London, Issakaba and Aki & Pawpaw, people still enjoy them, they are all over the Internet, being used by millions around the world. But Nollywood of today, will rather throw a bunch of light-skinned ladies with poor acting skills and a mediocre script, then try to blind us with flashy cars, while telling European stories. Abeg, make I no too go down this path here, because my grouse with Nollywood and Nigerians is strong. 2 Likes 1 Share |

safarigirl:Safari, This has nothing to do with asslicking.. Its what gives most female roles larger bank checks these days. We need to catch up from this usuals if we wantu gross movies. Many foolish movies take home close to billion dollars like some of those SA films you mentioned. If we want Nollywood to become lucrative, then it needs to adapt to the trend asap. Martial arts is one big criteria for any action movie involving female characters. You know that already. Are you still content with all these love movies upandan that we sit and know the end? Are we limited to the box forever? I dunno how you see it but we need to catch up or get relegated. Thats the fact. Forget white man standards. If its not History we are acting(which is a heck of a problem for facts) then they gats step up. Imagine Ratnik and Camp zero is gonna be our first when many others had such 2decades ago in Africa.... We simply lagging behind. |

JaceBlaze: Thethi kaka that one, in fact, voetsek! All I'm getting from the rant is that, we should be kowtowing & bowing to THEM, to have the right to wear the African badge. It's not going to happen! We don't care if nobody "rates" us because we choose not to have our African identity defined by others or by the movies we watch etc. What a silly notion to begin with, that as an African you can only make your nod of approval on all things African & nothing else. Isn't that another form of mental slavery? Because only an unliberated mind would shackle themselves with such limiting beliefs, where you're not allowed free thought, to make personal choices based on preference than popular opinion & race. Another thing I find interesting & rather hypocritical, Nigeria is the only place where you find things like, "UK used laptops etc", yet she wanna stand on the soapbox preaching about Africanism, when her own people see more value when things have been "used" or produced elsewhere. You cannot help but be amused by the blatant hypocrisy & faux "wokeness". 4 Likes 2 Shares |

safarigirl: And you believe this with all your heart? If that was so, then we should be the highest grossing industry by now. Story is one, making it a script is another and heck we are trying in that aspect of recent, but never top notch. Never. Its all about smartness.... That has never been our forte. The. Biafran War alone, can Nollywood act it in CGI standard as at now and give correct pictures, details and the likes? Can we? Lets be real here. Once crux that pains me is that many movies with no content are there making it bit cos of what? Catchy scenes and people watch and boom, cash inflow. Can we do same for a couple of years so we can get enough cash to real show the whole world what we made of? Nobody wana hear we have topnotch script writers even in an oscar hallway. Lets get that money by adaptation and then whatever you say can be valid. For now, we are average. We need more than the African Audience in this age. It has nothing to do with slave mentality but with quality. Chimamanda Adichie has more than the African audience now. Her career dont depend on us anymore. That's an example... Modified And ya really being hilarious with those movies you listed up there to be frank. |

safarigirl: YouTube always recommend videos for me but I have a functioning brain that allows me to sift through the nonsensical ones and pick the ones I want to watch.I can't believe you had to watch for 1hr+ before you realised you were watching a boring movie. But then again your neurons don't fire that quick. Then who are you angry with? the only thing that's at fault here is your malfunctioning brain.I don't need to go five minutes into the movie to conclude that I'm watching bullshit. Damn so you watched more than one boring SA movie and still could not get your sense of discernment awaken? You are one brick short of a full load and it ain't nobody's fault but your own. take this wonderful quote as a parting gift from me to you. chrisooblog: Bollywood have been copycats of many superhero movies from DC and Marvel of late. Guess what its raking in hundreds of millions for them. They quickly adapted from their usual dance and sing. Did that erode their cultural values or identity? Not a bit. See us all here. If we have a hostel of 35rooms and 20 peeps are with laptops, at least 18 of them will have 4 Bollywood movies. Can same be said for Nollywood in India? That's my point here. We should aim for the best and get it. Sometimes ago, we heard Genevieve and Omotola's bill for a movie increased so they got sidelined.... Lemme not start with that.... Cos it would heat things up. We just need rake im that money. That if a trailer makes it to New York electronic billboards, 4secs should be enough to want passers-by to wana see it and hype it. We still live Nollywoood pass SA, no doubt. Minus the white men influence on their movie industry and we have.... I don't like going down that road. Learnt a Walk to Freedom was i itiated by a white man and when he brought this Empire Luscious Lyon and Jennifer Hudson to play Mandela and Winnie, the blacks in sA revolted... But did they think of doing the movie before the white dude came? No!!! Its a franchise and cash inflow is the deal. |

daveP: NL is really full of lazy thinkers. It's actually heartbreaking to read what grown men & women type here sometimes Firstly - Whether we thought of doing the movie before is not important. We want South African stories to be told by people who understand them the most, and who could that be if not South Africans themselves? .If you can't cast a South African then pack your Hollywood equipment and follow the sunset. Secondly - Why are American stories off limits to non American actors yet they want their actors to touch our stories? give me a call when they finally allow a South African to play Malcolm X or Martin Luther King Jr. 2 Likes |

BascoVanVeli: Given the great alliance between America and Britain,do you think what you just said nullifies the fact that Americans don't let outsiders play in American true story-based films? Most of those British actors are casted in fictions anyway,so that doesn't count.Charlize Theron & Arnold Vosloo are South Africans who made it big in Hollywood but the question is doing you think they will be considered if a movie about Abraham Lincoln or Benjamin Franklin was to be made? HELL NO!! 4 Likes 1 Share |

Upgrade themselves to be multitasking. Is this too hard? Does that now mean I'm asslicking white men? That card is stale right now. Imagine since 2001, its majorly funds as the major hitch. Isokay. See Frozen 2....I've been following it. The storyline is crap and even some scenes were too large for kids, but the saviour complex theme was the same as usual. Grossed over a billion. Make i dey look on sha. We have lots of stories, books to adapt, that would be great on screen. |

If Madiba is that revered, why did it no occur to the black directors to adapt his life into a movie? Why wait for the white man to come and then when he wants to do it his way, SA was all ranting up and down asif its an entitlement. Be like church sister wey brothers in tha lord dey overlook for marriage until ine brother from another church kon toast am ask her out. All of dem kon sit up, open eye say sister wey fine dey dia church. You need work on your thinking. And oh, i enjoyed Rhythm City very much until David Gennaro part began to bore me. One thing is certain, if the script is crap but the movie grossed large, nobody cares. Direcyors and crew are as calm and happy as the dove. That's why they care less about critics these days. We can apply that too. The cash matters. Its business. And profit is the mainstream. |
