There was a plague that wrecked havoc in Benin before the British came. When the British finally conquered Benin, they saw so many corpses at a big burial site and they taught it was all for ritual purposes

I don't think we kept accurate data at that time. I do not believe it will be up to 500,000

How "accurate " can data be?

The Colonialists kept excellent records which are still available to educated folk who know where to find them.

From all indicators, USA is not as mighty as it claimed and it seems they need Iran's help more than Iran needs theirs.

i don't agree with your Iran jibe. Comparing both of them is like comparing Nigeria and Ghana, Nigeria has a larger population with more cities and urban center's so you'd expect us to have More cases than Ghana depending on how it is managed. However you'd say USA is more developed Iran but this corona defies all known medical practice and is affecting both world powers and weak nation's alike seriously. I'm just wondering why Beijing was barely hit by the virus but other powerful cities like London, Madrid,Rome,New York, Tehran etc don't even know what is hitting them. The Chinese aren't telling us something

Exactly my thought, immediately I saw the caption and the year.
The 500,000 is from a schooler, the government records is about 200,000. I think government records in 1800 will probably be more accurate than it is today.

Please change your topic, this seems to cover more on Africa than Nigeria.

There is no account with enough water on the severity of the Spanish flu in Nigeria. I've researched on this, even Ghana have a more detailed history on this topic than naija.

At the end, this write up failed to give us an exhaustive account of the effects of the Spanish flu on Nigeria. I wonder what the government and the British colonialists are hiding. This happened at the end of the 1st WW and the beginning times of Nigerian almagamation and I'm sure they could have kept the record the same as they kept receipt documents of the purchase of Nigeria by the British government from the Royal Niger company.

What happened in Lagos? Calabar and Port Harcourt?

That's because most of the info hasn't been put online.

You can check government records offices where such information is kept for more details

It is certain the Nigerian authorities want to avoid a repeat of history, which led to the various containment strategies being deployed against coronavirus: tracing, tracking possible vectors and their contacts, curfews, shutdowns and statewide lockdowns. Not to forget, enlightenment campaigns stressing social distancing, hand washing and so on.

Zero (not emphasising testing) testing means plenty spread and deaths.

Keep deceiving yourself. You are the one lacking knowledge. This is the dispensation of grace and in times like these true believers know better than to incite fear but ask for grace through faith in Christ Jesus. Yes Jesus is coming but no one knows when. Its not by plagues or pandemic. God does not incite fear but radiates love that is why he gave Jesus as the ultimate sacrifice instead of the use of animals as it was in the days of old. Pray for wisdom and above all pray for grace. Its people like u that makes unbelievers think God is difficult to serve. Meanwhile Jesus sacrifice was especially to redirect them home and was done out of God's love for man. Believe what u can but never use God's word to promote fear... God is love

History was never removed from the curriculum by Buhari..

What happened was that history was replaced with social studies when the new 6334 system took off in 1978 in primary and jss level

History was still taught to students in senior secondary school who choose it as part of their electives and is.still taught now.

Buhari was not in power in 1978 .

6334 system in 1978?

Diffusion and physiological responses to the influenza pandemic of 1918–19 in Nigeria
DC Ohadike - Social science & medicine, 1991 - Elsevier
Although virologists are not in agreement on the origins of the 1918–19 influenza pandemic, it has long been associated with the virulent type A virus. At least 21 million people died from the disease over a 12-month period, becoming one of the world's worst short-term demographic disasters. The disease was introduced into Nigeria by passengers and crews who arrived via ship from overseas. Thus, coastal ports were the primary focus of the diffusion of the disease. Its spread to the hinterland was facilitated by improvements in
