It'll make no sense to produce the masks when it can be gotten for cheaper elsewhere. China already has entrenched and fully developed supply chains for this good and does it better than anyone else. Comparative advantage will work to their benefit. It might not seem like much but overall it saves the global economy from harmful inefficiencies. Specializations are not evenly distributed.

If France and USA were to produce such a good what would be the benefit (economically speaking mind you, I value human life myself) for the setup and construction of such production facilities, the inputs supply chain arrangement and the general diversion of resources from areas otherwise important to the economy, in the long term ? That is what is key to look at here.

You have money? If yes, then buy from the producer. In the past you had to be a farmer, soldier, tailor, priest and shepherd all at the same time. But now specialization allows different ppl to handle various tasks at greater efficiency isn't it ? So yeah.

So France and America can't produce face mask again??

The greed of the white man is what is killing him now. Out of greed of cutting cost they closed down or moved local companies manufacturing facemasks and ventilators to China. Now they are at the mercy of the Chinese people. I thought these people claim they have high IQ. Did they not foresee this kind of pandemic happening at this scale. Did they not discuss mitigation options which would make them realize they need local companies to be available to continue production of things like facemasks and ventilators...

The factors in play include:
1. Most local factories are in lockdown, hence are out of production
2. Hence, the ones that are being produced locally are not enough for them.

Therefore, they need to get assistance from other running country; in this case, China

Who ever believed that a common thing like face mask will become a commodity sourced for and fought for by world powers in this world.

China and South Korea didn't beg for Doctors and health workers from other countries Infact other countries were busy mocking China in particular and politicizing the outbreak.
China and South Korea individually without outside help showed their true prowess by using Iron fist to achieve lock down in all their territories whether affected or not while people were criticizing the step on human rights grounds but the end result justified it.

They achieved uncommon feats like building 1,000bed capacity hospital in 8days and another 1500bed hospital in about the same period, using drones to disinfect areas, inventing emergency technological gadgets and apparatuses and robots to combat the virus. Asian countries are the lowest hit whereas US and European countries are the current epicentres of the virus

While US asslickers were busy boasting on how the US could easily tackle the menace if affected, China and South Korea fought the virus and won it and now restricting countries from bringing it back to them.

When you visit US and China you will understand that China despite having the world's largest population which is almost x4 of the USA has gone a long way to prove that the US is living by their past glory same as all the European countries combined.

3M is an American company with industries in different countries including China. This company is the major manufacturer of N95 masks in the world (N95 masks are the standard masks for frontline workers and are different from the regular surgical masks made in ABA).

US wants 3M to supply all the masks it manufactures in other countries like China to only US....... Trump believes 3M is an American company and should put America first which is quite selfish knowing that other countries are going through tough times too.

Trump even said that 3M shouldn't supply Canada and it's causing some issues....
