NwanyiOkpa:

prince Edward island would give him easy route to PR because schooling at PEI would qualify him for the Atlantic Immigration Pilot. Dalhouise university also qualifies him for that program since it lies in Nova Scotia (which is also Atlantic Canada). Carleton university is more prestigious than the two universities (please confirm this online) but unfortunately, carleton university does not lie in the Atlantic region and hence would not qualify him for the pilot program. There are other provinces in Atlantic Canada such as Newofundland (Memorial University of Newfoundland is one of the schools here.)

Lookup: Atlantic Immigration Program and the provinces.

PS: I am not saying that if he schools in carleton he would not be qualified for PR but from my studies, some people that graduate outside the Atlantic Canada later move to the Atlantic region to live and work for some months/years before applying for the Atlantic immigration pilot.

one of the criteria that qualifies you to apply for the Atlantic Immigration pilot is that you must have stayed in the region for up to 2 years. Hence, schooling in that region automatically qualifies him for that.

Goodluck and please read more about what I have advised confirming for yourself.

Cheers and Congrats to your son.

Lest I forget; Apply for him first so that you can serve as home tie and since you have a job already and would be his sponsor.

Thank you so much I highly appreciate.

My sister I don’t know much honestly. At times guy meet them via friend. I think there’s an agency in Texas but I don’t know how they operate. One has to be very careful sha because if you connect with a troublesome one , you might as well come back to Nigeria. he or she will frustrate you until you have zero to your name

I applied November 2019. Profile status was 'all document received' till February 2020, when it changed to 'in process'. 'Twas in process until I received offer on 12 March 2020.

good afternoon,

i am about gathering my documents prior to application. what is the amount that is sufficient for the journey? the amount i need to supply, does it have to cover the two years study or just cost of living for one year?
You're generally required to show proof of funds to cover for one year in Canada. So that means one year tuition, living and travelling expenses. Therefore, you're looking at;

Tuition: ****
Living expenses: $10,000
Traveling expense: $1500

When you're filling the IMM application form you use this same principle

Thanks so much @Frankrobbn1 for this detailed response. I appreciate you and every other person that commented and will comment.

As you rightly said and also in my earlier post, I really need someone to work with and I appreciate if you can or know someone that you can recommend to me. I really need to turn-in a convincing application first time.

Thank you once again.

Frankrobbn1:

Welcome to the thread, I hope you will find your stay here very educating and rewarding.

With regards to your questions;

1-) As stipulated on IRCC official website, Having 2 intents (1 for temporary residence and 1 for permanent residence) is legitimate. Hence, this doesn't adversely effect your study permit application. For further details relating to this matter, kindly refer to IRCC WEBSITE ON DUAL INTENT. However, I have read a GCMS NOTE where an active EE was a reason for a refusal. This is due to the fact that applicant weren't able to satisfy the visa officer that they will depart from Canada after the authorized period of stay. Notwithstanding, there are many applicants who have been successful with their study visa while having an active EE profile. So i think it boils down to the visa officer in charge of the application.

2-) Going for a second masters degree instead of a PhD can be justified beyond reasonable doubt by explaining to the Visa officer that the previous masters you earned from the US was more of course/project based and thus does not qualify you for a Phd program since your long term goal is to become a lecturer). Go further by rationally explaining to the visa officer that the current 2 years masters which you're opting for at this point in your career is intensely research focused, and will qualify you for, and be a foundation for a related PhD program in the near future.

3-) Having funding doesn't in anyway help your application. You still have to satisfy that you meet the necessary three (3) Canadian immigration requirements for issuance of a study Visa.

These three (3) criterions includes;
i) Proof of financial sufficiency (you need to also include your SOA, irrespective of the fact that you've funding).
ii) Reasons for your planned studies in Canada (this is where your SOP comes in play, the correlation between your previous masters, your current job role and intended program).
iii) Your family ties in Nigeria that will compel your departure after studies (spouse, kids, landed property, buildings, investment/shares in banks etc).

Note; Applicants who had full funding from potential supervisors were rejected of their visas. So funding doesn't guarantee your Visa approval. Contact a knowledgeable guru on this thread to assist you with your application so as to avoid any mistakes/errors.

4-) Read through my past posts on this thread and follow this link for the
LIST OF DOCUMENTS FOR A SUCCESSFUL CANADA STUDY VISA APPLICATION: .

I hope this information helps.

It will end in praises

Hello, great people. Pls I need an advice. My son 18 years got admission to carleton university, software with a co-op program and scholarship of 4k CAD. Prince Edward computer science, and Dalhousie University software. Pls we are a bit confused on which one to accept. Also which will be easier for him as PR after schooling.
Secondly, pls can i apply for visa when applying for him Or I should apply first before applying for him? Pls help your sister.

How your son will get PR should be the least of your worries. He is 17, any province he decides to study, he will easily get PR post graduation.

If money is not an issue, factors you should consider when choosing a school for your son are;

One, as a future software developer, is it not going to be good he gets as much hands on experience while studying? Any opportunity to get practical work experience (coop/ internship) should not be overlooked.
Two, of all the schools listed above, which province has the highest employment rate for software developers?
Three, what is the reputation of the school, international students in the school, ease of employment for UG students post graduation (this may not even be necessary because you may want him to go for masters degree) and so forth.

Finally, please submit your visa application alongside his. You have every right plus very good reasons as a mother to accompany your 17 year old son. All you need to do is make sure you write a letter detailing why you must follow him and make sure you mention the number of days you will spend with him in Canada. Use hubby, hubby’s work or business, your place of work, properties as ties.

Apologies for any errors or typo. Had to use my phone to type this.

Cc Seun Osewa, please why is it becoming difficult to log into Nairaland with an explorer or google chrome?

Apply his first and after some weeks apply for you that will help since his application will take longer than yours because he needs medical later while you don't need such and his pending application will help yours to get approval.

I have first-hand information that it's hard to get a job in the US now even after an MSc, especially if you don't have a green card.
