You are right, I think.
If he has ripe palm fruit up there and you found it on top the tree that has the ripe fruit, it is likely 'keke', its name in English is what I don't know.

What's the name?

Its called Capybara. Its a very gentle animal. You shouldn't have even killed it. You could have raised it as a pet. It can grow as large as a big pig but can never destroy stuff but eats grass.

Are you that naive? Eating of this sort of cretins, reportedly, is accountable for what's going on in the world right now.

It is called Owawa in Yoruba and called Bush Dog in pigeon.

This animal mostly leaves on Palm Trees or Big Tall tress with ropes to enable it climb.

The animal barks mostly at night when coming down from the trees and does same when ascending in the early hours to scare other animals. The animal has sharp teeth like that of a Dog.

I have on several occasions hunted and killed this animal when I was much younger in the village.

The meat is safe to eat. I have eaten uncountable. Though the meat is a bit hard and not that sweet though when compared to Grass cutter, Squirrel and Antelope. grin

Yeah...yeah..

The Chinese ate bats and other weird animals for decades before CoVID-19 virus crossed into the human population.

Nigerian illiterates stop your 'kill and eat' mentality of weird animals before you send another novel microbe into the human population and kill us all. Fish and Beef is enough.

It's a cane rat. Very good to eat. They are often bred in captivity. The meat contains a very high amount of protein. So, Op eat and enjoy yourself.
