Why do Nigerians beg alot ? In all social media handles Nigerians like begging, if a celebrity should post anything and there are 2000 comments ,1700 of the comments would be of people pasting their account numbers. Why do Nigerians feel entitled to someone's money. Even nairaland is not left out, account numbers are almost everywhere on nairaland. Some were even asking S.eun for giveaway like they are entitled to his money. Why do some Nigerians feel like they are entitled to a rich/well to do person's money? 299 Likes 22 Shares |

It has become part of our culture... Remember: Culture is the way of life of a particular group, tribe, race, kind of people. NB: It is very bad!!! 143 Likes 11 Shares |

It's really a sorry case. No sense of self responsibility at all even in healthy young men and women. It even gets scarier when people of little means get married, have children and then rely on the general public to help cater for the family! If everyone struggling were to resort to begging, then there would be no one spared. It is well jare....so well! 129 Likes 8 Shares |

Biancah: The average Nigerian is not content with what he/she has. Also, the average Nigerian is in contant competition and always wants to lead the 'imaginary' pack and will result to begging, stealing, misappropriation of funds, shortchanging others to do so. Some people because of the paragraph above also like to 'give' to show they are on top. Most of the 'beggars' are using the funds to do stuffs you the begged cannot afford. E. G. The OP that lamented that his married ex used the funds she from begged him for her husband's birthday. And as luck would have it, said OP claimed he cannot use such funds to celebrate a birthday for himself or family?! 102 Likes 1 Share |

People love free things. They won't work for money and be content. They must beg and scam. They are almost turning this forum to Beggarsland. 69 Likes 2 Shares |

There is no group of people on earth with begging as a part of their culture. No continent, country or ethnic group upholds it. In the days of our fathers, begging was so "abnormal" that some of them would rather die than beg, even for their own lives. Now, I'm not saying that begging started today but the acceptance it is fast gaining today, especially among our youths, speaks very low of our generation. Do you know that today some full fledged youths, I'm talking of able-bodied men and women, have it as their official career? And the worst is that there's no level they won't go to keep up with it. If they are not hiring children from the motherless babies homes and orphanages to beg on the roads, they are constantly cooking up one story or the other to deceive the public. Although there are situations one can be in and they'll have no other option than to beg, but making it a habit is very very bad. You need to see the way that some of them live flamboyantly on other people's sweat. I'd rather hustle with my bare hands than to beg, and God forbid situations that will even make me consider it from coming my way. Oya my people, in the spirit of the conversation, patronize our services. 52 Likes 3 Shares |

Yes.... What we have in this country is enough for all of us.... Our leader has turn everything upsidedown only If you understand how people are suffering in this Nation. Why do you think our politicians allowing their children to marry each other? Not all of us are born with golden spoon 1 Like |

Yes, it has become part of the Nigerian culture. It's disgusting because when I see people begging on social media I wonder how they would have gotten financial help if social media didn't exist. Yeah things are hard but in this country we encourage poverty, we praise the suffering mentality. 25 Likes |

What do yhu mean by Nigerians LIKE begging Does anyone like begging? Is begging a likable trait? People beg for assistance when they can't meet their needs. Nobody is robbing you...they are only asking for assistance...just taking their chances on you. Quit with the holier than thou attitude. Given, it seems embarrassing to always flood people's timeline with begging...those posts should be controlled but please don't look down on anyone for begging. It's not a thing of pleasure. 46 Likes 3 Shares |

I tire o! I know some people that will soon attack the Op over this. People who consider the right to beg as their inalienable and fundamental human right. By the way, it isn't just those who come out on SM to beg, it is virtually everywhere. The police stops you on the road and beg. The Road Safety the same. Even soldiers don join them now. Children, fathers, mothers, pastors, imam... It is every where. Yes, it has become a culture. And it is no longer peculiar to Abokis. Everyone now does it. If you have every landed in Nigeria from a foreign flight, you will simply be ashamed at how airport officers (fully employed by the way!) go dey beg you for dollars. The worst part of it is you show the remotest interest in a girl and immediately she tries turning you into ATM. This is troubling-ly common on Nairaland these days. Hardly will you be able to have a decent conversation with a girl and you won't wake up one day to her request for cash. We shouldn't explain this away as a consequence of poor economy. It is simply lack of home training, greed, and a nasty sense of entitlement that others are meant to be responsible for your life. The only sustainable response to harsh economic realities is hard work and smart investment. How many of those begging for money have cared to venture into a line of work they don't like? There is no year I spend a couple of months in Nigeria that I will not talk people into lending me their land to farm. Even as a terribly poor undergraduate student I farmed from my first year to the fvcking final year. That and smart investment have been my only response to poverty. No one should come out and start blaming economic hardship. It is simply lack of proper home training. Unfortunately, some of the parents are even worse than the children, and what you don't have you cannot give. As poor as my parents were, dem no born you well to come to the house with something that belongs to someone else. They would almost kill you. But these days we have parents who also engage in the shameful career of begging. Biancah: 86 Likes 9 Shares |

This is what you see when the number of the poor in a society out numbers the rich. That's why our collective concern now should be how to chase poverty away from Nigeria. Our government can't do anything again for us. Let's stand and do it ourselves. If you have the capacity to help any unemployed person start a business, please do it. If you can teach people your skill, do that. Provided people keep getting poorer in Nigeria, the begging will continue. 17 Likes 3 Shares |
