the short answer- when Citizens refuse to enforce their will in governance, their government enforces it's own will on Citizens. In full: let's go there. each local government has- a council a chairman a legislator, or two an HOR member a senator. these are your immediate public SERVANTS, who're meant to do YOUR will. when was the last time you QUERIED any of them about the DEFICIENCIES in your community? when was the last time you ATTENDED a community/town hall meeting? when was the last time you advised/engaged your neighbors to join a community campaign for street lights, Primary health care maintenance or repairs in the local primary school? if you REFUSE to monitor and query YOUR servants, who will do it for you? after neglecting YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES year after year, there's a crisis and you all SUDDENLY expect govt to have the answers. who's fooling whom? I advise that you pick up your phone and use this time to organise the residents on your street so that govt can have data to work with- how many houses, number of people in each with ages. so when they say they're bringing foodstuff, you can ask them- "there are 100 Citizens on my street- 5 over 70, 21 children and 9 unemployed. what are you offering them per day?" or keep complaining. powered by- TRUNN- The "Rise Up Nigeria" Network 1 Like |

SpecialAgent:oga, every successful democracy is based on THE PEOPLE demanding good governance, rather than complaining, 24/7. south sudan- THE PEOPLE vs. military dictatorship. Hong Kong- THE PEOPLE vs. communist China. India- THE PEOPLE vs. British colonial masters. examples abound. Nigeria- THE PEOPLE complain & look for shortcuts. 1 Like |

debaj10: Bros, have you ever went to ur reps or senators office in ur locality? Cause if you do, am pretty sure you would have found at least 100 of his people daily, urging for one thing or the other for the community. Some even write letters which d so called leaders hardly even glance at it. People try that & they are still trying. If d people annoy them too much, they just call the NPF to disperse d crowd 1 Like |

This is what I keep saying all the time....No govt on earth will act until the citizens react. America, France and China didn't get to where they are by collecting rice and oil during elections yet expecting a functional govt afterwards. Their govt acts on the will of the ppl not the other way round...they seek the support of the ppl before venturing into uncharted territory. The way Nigeria's govt has treated its ppl during this lockdown would have triggered violent protests and even civil war in saner climes but hey as fela sang : "I no wan die, papa dey for house, I wan build house, I jus build house...." We all want the best of life without the rigors that come with it. Sowore was locked for months...what did our youths do? They were more interested in mundane issues like bbnaija...some even lampooned him on nairaland among other media forums. In other climes, youths would be outside DSS office with Molotov cocktails ready to burn the place down and from there proceed to Aso rock to serve them the business. That's how IT WORKS. No govt will do $hit for you until you prove your willingness to kill and be killed for what you believe in. For example, Katsina govt has lifted ban on Friday mosque prayers becos a police station and vans got burnt down by irate youths.... Get the picture now? |

I advise that you pick up your phone and use this time to organise the residents on your street so that govt can have data to work with Govt has no data on it's people? How about you encourage people who are in need, to call the relevant offices themselves, I'm sure most Nigerians have phones. |

There are reasons why democracy is called "govt of the ppl". The masses give the blueprint, the leaders handle implementation. Simple. Over here, we collect N500, 4 cups of rice and a yard of Ankara and expect good leadership becos the elect is " our tribe". |

The word "palliative" alone is enough to confuse the people. Instead of something as simple as relief packages. They use by big big oyinbo grammars that are completely unnecessary to dabaru the masses sense. |
