Impact of Convid 19 on students or Applicants : 1. Delayed admission offer / CAS ( As the case may apply) : All Universities are closed however, staffs are being setup to be able to work from home. Please note that they wont be able to work at the same speed due to some constraints which includes but not limited to access to the internet or prompt response from colleagues. It's still advisable if you have not applied to start your process ASAP due to class limit and application deadlines. 2. For those who intend paying acceptance fee or Tuition : FX rates have increased and definitely limited avalailibilty in banks. It may be a better alternative to open a dormicillary account and fund your account by purchasing from the black market. Either way, please note that transactions may now take up to 3-4 weeks to reflect or be acknowledged by your University as compared to 4 working days we used to have. 3. Additionally, we are hopefully that Visa application will be accepted at least 3 .months before resumption. However, its better to get all necessary documentation sorted before June to avoid last minute application during peak times at the Embassy. Exceptions may apply for the UK because of the super priority visa available to them but other countries do not have this.

Hello all, Greetings. Please my wife is interested in applying for a PhD scholarship in Public Health at Ireland. She's got a BSc in Human Anatomy and a Master's in Public Health. She's got over three years work experience in the NGO sector. Please, we need guidelines. If this has been answered before, can someone please refer me to the page as it's pretty difficult going through all the pages here. Our questions include, how do we go about this? What school should we apply to? I understand that the pandemic of COVID-19 has put things on lockdown but I'm sure some steps can be started still. Thanks as I await your help. Meanwhile, I'd continue to research on the matter. Regards. Cc: ICaSNg |

TONYE001:Hi, Firstly, I hope you don't get offended with my post. It is baffling that your wife who wants to study for a PhD has to push this question through you on a public space like this. PhD is a research degree that requires lots of personal development due to its intensity and the goals of educating an independent thought leader in a specific discipline with very minimal supervision. So basic information on how to go about a PhD admission and all shouldn't be asked by a potential PhD student. Dig deep on the internet as there tons of information on that. Even Universities have documents on their websites on how to go about this. Not to talk about forums like Quora. That said, I am not sure of many PhD scholarships in Ireland but you can be sure to always find something by diligently searching and making concrete contacts with professors in schools that offer studies in area of your research interest. So generally this is a guide on how to go about PhD admission and possible scholarships. ++ Identify the schools that carry out research in your area of specialisation ++ Reach out to professors in the faculty with similar research interests as yours mostly through email. In the email, introduce yourself and give a brief background into your academic qualifications, professional background, and any publications you have; and also stating why you are interested in working with the person and your future goals after completion of your PhD. If you guys reach a compromise, they will advice you on the next point of action. Whether to apply for admission or possible ways in which you can get funding. ++ Another possible way is to keep eyes on some websites that publish ongoing PhD positions in Europe and North America. For instance, if you are an Earth Scientist, your best bet for this would be http://www.earthworks-jobs.com. Note that PhD positions that would be advertised on sites like this are usually competitive. So you need good academic standing, research skills and publications in reputable journals. But be sure that clinching one of them gives you some mileage to a great PhD experience as you get tuition waiver and stipends towards living cost. You will also be paid to attend international conferences regardless of the country it is happening in the world as long as your supervisor is interested in you attending. ++ It is important to write IELTS academic test and other standardized test like GRE if you are looking at the USA. As a PhD applicant/candidate, you are expected to have great communication skills because part of PhD undertaking is to be able to communicate your research findings with the scientific community. For schools in Ireland, check University College Dublin, University College Cork, National University of Ireland Galway, Maynooth University and other small colleges that offer similar programs. I hope you find this useful. I wish you success in this pursuit. Cheers. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Good news : DUOLINGO language test (www.englishtest.duolingo.com) will be recognized for entry to programmes commencing in July and September 2020. Please note that this is an exceptional measure due to the COVID-19 crisis and we will review the suitability of this test after the September 2020 intake. We have deemed the following scores from DUOLINGO to be equivalent to IELTS; DUOLINGO Score IELTS Score 85-90 5.5 95-100 6.0 105-110 6.5 115-120 7.0 125-130 7.5 In an effort to avoid delays for visa applications, the Irish universities have agreed this recognition with the Irish Naturalisation & Immigration Service (INIS) for entry in July and September 2020, only. 2 Likes |

Dear ICaSNg, you've done an awesome job on this thread. However, I have a favour to ask. It might seem a bit silly, and it may look like I want to be spoon-fed, but believe me, I've done a lot of research that has spanned weeks and even months and I keep running into dead ends. It's a very simple topic. Scholarships for Nigerian students in Ireland, for Graduate (MSc) courses. Thank you very much. |
