Odunayaw: Agreed without reservation. We have an army engineering Corp. When you retrofit your own RWS, FLIR and target acquisition soft Ware. You save yourself 75% of the cost of refurbishment. It's not rocket science very straight forward stuff. We can even upgrade the mine resistance by using cheap Indian steel. |

komekn: He said "3 Battalion " , which infers 3 Bat headquarted in Effurun, Warri. NOT 3 battalions. Rewatch the video and put into proper context. He couldn't have had more than 1 or 2 composite companies of approximately 250-400 men. Maybe 200 men even depending on field factors. There's no way the whole of c600 mem (max) of 3 Bat will be in Maiduguri, but just components. Don't get me wrong, it takes nothing away from the terrible optics of the video. Only adjusting the perspective. Aside: Nice new acquisitions. Hoping they hot them in substantial quantities. |

Whyem15: African government prefer the Chinese route for arms procurement not because of quality. It's simply because the Chinese not averse to " sharp practices" kick back to offshore accounts it's how business is done. A good reason for us not hear anything. We bought sub standard copy cat engineering Mig 21 from China for hundreds of millions of $$$. When you could buy used MIG 21 from with better airframes and resilience, for a fraction of the price. Now I am involved in procurement across Europe but not Military. So if l know these things, I don't believe our top brass dont know this too. Buying 20+ MBT and 30 + Light tanks will not provide the coverage required. They are required but not the main thing. They need far better communications infrastructure. And light armoured type MRAP vehicles that will not get stuck in the terrain that are fast and mobile that give you some stealth in your search and destroy missions. All should have RWS with the full suite that gives you clear cut advantage over the enemy. At this stage NA should be able to have at least 25 UAV to Cover the hot spots of the NE. My opinion this is not best value for Nigeria and will give very limited relief. 8 Likes |

homerac7: Have you ever seen three Generals commanding one Battalion and or three General leading the forward assault at the same time. I plead ignorance of how things are done in the Nigerian armed forces and how it comprises it's formation numbers. But l am using general international standards western. It was not presumption that the other two generals were the Battalion commanders because that's what was stated. To quote Gen. Adeniyi verbatim "The three Battalions are standing and fighting" That's a plural not singular. Your Inference has absolutely nothing to underpin it with. So my position remains unless you are saying that a Battalion has less than 250 men in the context of Nigeria. |

S400: Cheapest does not equate to the best value. For instance how old are the Alpha jets and how new are the copy engineering Chinese mig 21 i.e. F7. Which have been more reliable and effective? I admit to unrepentant bias, l would rather have a German engineered, 5 years old Mercedes-Benz G Wagon than a Chinese BAIC G80 or rebranded IVM G80 attempted G Wagon copy. Furthermore, l also would never use Thailand quality control as a bench mark for quality. 2 Likes |

Scores Killed Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole in the North-East have engaged some Boko Haram terrorists who attempted to infiltrate the Nigerian Army location at 3 Battalion in the Gamboru area of Borno State, during which scores of the fighters were shot dead. The Defence Headquarters, Abuja, said on Wednesday that the Boko Haram and Islamic State West African Province terrorists came to the military location with seven gun trucks on Monday but met a stiff resistance from the troops. The Director, Defence Media Operations, Brig. Gen. Bernard Onyeuko, said in a statement that the troops seized three gun trucks, two anti-aircraft guns, two AK-47 rifles and one rocket propelled grenade tube from the insurgents. Onyeuko said, “Troops of 3 Battalion and Quick Response Force Army Super Camp 11 in Gamboru on a targeted patrol had yet another fierce encounter with some Boko Haram and ISWAP marauders in a convoy of seven gun trucks and many motorcycles approaching the battalion’s location at about 6pm on Tuesday. “Consequently, the criminals were overpowered and pursued up to the Wurge area. No soldier lost his life, and no military equipment was seized during the encounter.” Meanwhile, the Coordinator of the Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. John Enenche, said there was no rift between the Nigerian and Chadian armed forces as being insinuated in some quarters based on the Chadian troops’ battles with the Boko Haram insurgents. While fielding questions from newsmen in Abuja, Enenche denied that there was rivalry between Nigeria and Chad or any other country in the Lake Chad basin. He said, “The Nigerian component of the Multi-National Joint Task Force together with other members from the Lake Chad Basin Commission has been involved in clearance operation around the Lake Chad Basin. “This is the fallout of the recent offensive actions of the armed forces of Nigeria in the North-East Operation Lafiya Dole. “There is no disagreement between the Nigerian and Chadian troops and joint operations are ongoing. “The combined effort of troops of the land component, maritime component and air component has resulted in the neutralisation of scores of the Boko Haram terrorists and ISWAP elements.” https://punchng.com/boko-haram-targets-army-location-scores-killed/ |

Even a simple google search will help Boko have been literally uprooted comprehensively wiped out from Chad in the space of a week.If you think 20 dead here and there and a bursting off their stashes equals "wiping out", then I'm afraid, this discussion will go in circles 1 Like |

komekn:They were in what I call a "regroup" thus making it possible for the three Generals to be in a video. In advance or even defense, 3 battalions can never be together. Of course, this isn't going into details of orbat as I don't have such strength to type |

jpphilips: America, a weak enemy? Lol. From what I can see the Taliban are not and have never been serious about negotiations. I remember reading an intelligence briefing to that effect, but then anyone could easily see that. So, why are the Taliban negotiating? Mainly to bamboozle, and to show their power. Remember the almighty US has endlessly said it would never ever negotiate with terrorists. Then imagine them going cap in hand to negotiate with some sandal-wearing towelheads who can't count up to 100 but can reassemble an AK 47 blindfolded. So, the negotiations are a great propaganda coup for the Taliban. They will cheerfully negotiate an end to American occupation and agree to share power with the Afghan government. Once the Americans are gone they will reopen their offensive and make Afghanistan theirs once again. They agreed to negotiate because they have nothing to lose and everything to gain. 1 Like 1 Share |
