Wrong as usual. One of the causes of mfecane was the introduction of maize which led to population explosion. The maize came from Portuguese. The Mfecane took place in the 1800s. Whitey had been in southy since the 1600s. There goes your first two points... In fact, as Shaka was expanding his empire, the likes of Xhosa were caught btw the Vootrekkers and the Brits advancing north.

Third point, the same way Zulu were known as Ndwandwe before King Shaka. That does not mean they are not the same people. The Cape Dutch were the proto-Boers so my usage was in hindsight. More like Afrikaner and Boer in the year 2500 (dont ask me how I know, i just know by then the name Boer will be out of common usage).

Prove that it was homegrown slavery. The Nyamwezi had no slaves before Arabs came. Same with the Imbangala who only began slave trade when the Portuguese arrived. I told you the concept of slavery is alien to Africans. Same with genocide.

Not hypocritical at all. RVp said Indians were barred from owning businesses upcountry, not kicked out. In fact many Indians who were kicked out of Uganda came to Kenya. Nobody was kicked out, including the whites. An Africanization policy simply came into effect, without the kind of murderous rampage of your ancestors grin

You cant cite mfecane for two things. It happened long after the landing of whites - the whole bone of contention. Mfecane was actually connected to the fateful landing, as an alibi for colonial-sponsored violence. The narrative of mfecane itself was weaved by European missionaries (effectively spies) sent to scout for land.

Mfecane 101 for jln115:

You should have realized by now that there is ZERO evidence of jawdropping violence among native Africans prior to your ancestors arrival grin
- The Zulus didn't come in to contact with white settlers until after the start of the Mfecane....regardless if the theory of Maize or not is true, the fact is they didn't make contact with white settlers until after the start of the mfecane,! the fact is white settlers didn't move north until 1835!

- All im saying is that their are still Dutch people in the world, with a distinct culture and language than that of the Boere, how can the Boere have arrived in SA when they didn't exist anywhere but in SA?

Xhosa, I just want to be sure you know & understand that the Khoi wars didnt start until after the arrival of jln's ancestors. Before that time everything was normal, by normal I mean minor issues here and there but nothing of the sort of murderous campaigns. wink

LOL! That's not exactly true. Plus I find the obsession with whites a little annoying. People are territorial by nature. You see it in the enclosed compounds they used to live in, in those days.

1st let me start by explaining that the Xhosa tribe is separated into two kingdoms: The Gcaleka in the north, in what is the former Transkei & the Rharhabe in the south, in the former Ciskei. I'm a Rharhabe Xhosa because my ancestors lived in the Ciskei region, so I'm well aware of the history. The two sons of King Phalo, Gcaleka & Rharhabe were born from different mothers. The King had several wives. Rharhabe was the eldest son & Gcaleka was a few years younger. As they got older, they fought over who was going to inherit the throne. There's even a book written by S.E.K Mqhayi (A Rharhabe himself) on their legendary rivalry. Ityala lamawele is the name of the book & it's loosely based on the contentious relationship between the brothers. The two groups were even involved in a civil war between each other at one point.
Long story short, Rharhabe got tired of fighting with his brother over who is going to be king & he left his father's homestead with a few followers, to start a kingdom of his own. This was the beginning of the Rharhabe Xhosa. They had not encountered whites at this point.

An alternative form of the same myth was built around the British and Afrikaner understandings of the Mfecane. The Mfecane, translated roughly as ‘the crushing’, was a time of great political upheaval in the Zulu Kingdom in the first half of the nineteenth century. Both the British and the Afrikaner used the Mfecane to make the argument that the land they were occupying had been ‘deserted’.
In the 1850s, when the British began to consolidate the colony of Natal in what is today Kwa-Zulu Natal, they claimed that only 4 000 to 5 000 inhabitants of the land were actually 'indigenous' inhabitants who had a right to that land. The rest of the Zulus living in the area, or moving into it in large droves, were "interlopers", either refugees fleeing the despotic rule of Shaka or Zulus returning to their old homelands after Shaka's Mfecane, which had begun in around 1815 and only came to an end around 1840. Although the latter were understood by the British to be returning to their own lands, the British claimed that "Kafirs have little attachment to any particular locality", implying that the Zulu's would not mind moving to any land and therefore had no particular claim to the land the British had taken. In light of this the British claimed that much of Natal had been 'vacant' land at the time of colonisation and therefore the British had a right to claim it. For the most part they respected the land claims of the Boers who had entered the region just before British colonisation (although these Boers had to submit to British rule), but they used the narrative of refugees and the claim that Zulus were not attached to their land to argue that up to 40 000 Zulus should be removed from the Natal Colony.

When the Afrikaner Trek Boers reached the Vaal Highveld after their incursion across South Africa from the Cape, they made a similar argument to the British in order to justify their claims to the land in the Highveld. They claimed that upon their arrival the region was almost devoid of any African inhabitants because the thinking went, they had all fled in the face of the Mfecane. The Boers believed that the land was deserted and abandoned and therefore theirs for the taking. Part of the Afrikaner Boers mythology also claimed that the Boers had rescued the few scattered tribes of the region by giving them protection against the forces of Shaka. This myth, of a Vaal region that was deserted by the Bantu, is one that still has a number of proponents in some Afrikaner communities.

In the 1890s, the renowned South African historian George McCall Theal, considered to be the grandfather of South African history, once again gave credence to a theory that the Bantu had migrated into South Africa at the same time as the Europeans. In his voluminous works on history, based on an analysis of place names and supposed archaeological evidence, Theal claimed to give scientific evidence that the Bantu people had only begun to cross the Limpopo river at roughly the same time as when Europeans began to settle at the Cape, leaving the rest of South Africa a veritable ‘vacant land’. Theal’s work reaffirmed the myth of the vacant land in South African historiography and in popular memory. By the turn of the nineteenth century the idea that South Africa had been populated by Europeans and Bantu at the same time and that large tracts of Bantu land had been deserted, left vacant, during the Mfecane, became accepted ‘fact’ in South African society.

The myth of the empty land became particularly destructive in the hands of the Apartheid Government. The Apartheid Government used this myth as a justification for their construction of the homelands. Although the homelands in South Africa housed 70% of the population, they only comprised of 13% of the total landmass. The Apartheid Government justified this incredibly unequal distribution of land by claiming that the land in White hands was historically 'empty land', land that had belonged to nobody and therefore could not form part of a homeland. The homelands, they argued, were made up of all the land that had been occupied by the Bantu people, but the rest of the country had had no indigenous inhabitants and therefore legitimately belonged to the White inhabitants who had claimed it first.

Historians and activists alike also pointed to a glaring omission on the theory of the empty land – the absolute silence on the existence of the KhoiSan (KhoiKhoi and San/Bushman) populations of Southern Africa who roamed much of the south western region of the country. KhoiSan peoples had been living in the region for millennia when the Dutch first arrived. Their plight, and their undeniable claims to the land gets no reference in the 'empty land theory'.

Yeah so, why make it sound like it took an external force to bring that out of the Rharhabe? They were just the less of two evils when compared to colonial powers because at least they were able to negotiate with their neighbours & made amends.

Edit: Neither did I say the land was empty, or denied that Boers took Land from smaller Bantu tribes........I said SA was sparsely populated at the time of the great trek!

My argument was and still is that people that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, Yes i know that he Boers committed unspeakable atrocities(more specifically apartheid), however i will not entertain the narrative that it was only the Boers and only the British that committed these atrocities when in actual fact Africans have also committed these atrocities for centuries before European settlers arrived.

Slavery and Genocide has been part of human culture since the dawn of human civilization.............Slavery and genocide is certainly not a white thing only as what you want everybody to believe

OPEC DEAL: FG reacts, says Nigeria will generate additional $2.8 billion in revenue

After weeks of deliberations and negotiations, including intervention from the United States of America, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its allies (OPEC+) finally agreed to a historic cut in crude oil output as part of measures towards tackling the global oil crisis.

The deal, which was reached after their virtual meeting on Thursday, April 9, 2020, will see OPEC member countries cut their output by 10 million barrels per day. Non-OPEC countries will also cut their production output by 5 million barrels per day.

In the meantime, the Nigerian Government has reacted to this development. In a statement issued by the Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, on behalf of the Federal Government, it was noted that Nigeria will adhere to the output cut in order to rebalance and stabilize the global oil market.

The country will join OPEC+ to cut supply by up 10 million barrels per day between May and June 2020, 8 million barrels per day between July and December 2020, and 6 million barrels per day from January 2021 to April 2022, respectively.

As a result of the output cut, Nigeria will now be producing 1.412 million barrels per day, 1.495 million barrels per day, and 1.579 million barrels per day respectively for the corresponding periods in the agreement; as against the 1.829 million barrels per day of dry crude oil that was the reference production in October 2018. This is in addition to condensate production of between 360-460 KBOPD of which are exempt from OPEC curtailment.

However, this agreement awaits the final outcome of the ongoing engagement with Mexico to agree on its full participation.

This historic cut, when finally concluded and implemented, is expected to see crude oil prices rebound by at least $15 per barrel in the short term.

This is is also expected to help increase the possibility of the Federal Government exceeding the adjusted budget estimate that was just sent to the National Assembly with the reviewed crude oil price put at $30 per barrel and a crude oil production estimate of 1.7 million barrels per day.

The rebound price is expected to lead to an additional $2.8 billion dollars in revenue for the Federation. This will help to bring some much-needed respite to Nigeria, helping to mitigate the revenue crisis that it is currently facing.

In addition, all planned industry development projects will still progress as they will be delivered before the termination of the 9th OPEC/Non-OPEC Ministerial Meeting Agreement on adjustments in April 2022

I also wanted to tell Xhosanostra that the major skirmish between them and the Khoisan was after the arrival of the same culprits (Mugabe's pink nozes grin). Before then Khoisan and Isixhosa were cool buddies. Lol, tayser go back to my initial post to you and remember I told you about the desperate twisting of your words that would take place grin grin grin.

1. You clearly said there were fights between African groups, and we have all confirmed this .I even added that even today where I currently live two clans were knifing each other over land and other petty things. I even mentioned that even before the Europeans and arabs came here things like that took place ,and even if they left at this moment there would still be tribal or clannish issues here and there . No one denied this grin grin no one!.

2. What no one has proven though is that there were genocides of clans and tribes prior euro invasions grin. People are just dancing around the trying pathetically to " prove" that tribal fights equalled genocide grin grin. People who live in close proximity with each other will always have differences and fights will ensue,in some cases they become bloody .This happens within families as well. Even the borders were always there before Jan and other criminals arrived in Africa, just not physical ones though.

3. What you should have done is to keep out of the " race" debate grin, talk more about clan and tribal rivalries grin,or even better; niggas with foreign blood lines grin. You picked the wrong subject to entertain it's too, "petty" grin, even though everything important in SA is racial ; ownership of resources, education poverty, etc. grin grin.
