I have been wanting to ask this question for a long time.

Personally, from my parents to the last kid of my family who is only 8 yrs old have a good handwriting.

So I always wonder if it is anywhere related to genetics.
But BABA, na you write this thing...

Maybe, if fine motor skills play a factor

Everyone's handwriting in my immediate family is different, some beautiful, some ugly as hell (mine)
Your handwriting is way above average. Not all over the place and every letter is beautifully legible.

Fine motor skills do play a role. You see that in neuro rehabilitation. How handwriting changes greatly with impaired motor skills.

My sister has one the most beautiful handwritings I have seen.

If she's in any groups she automatically becomes the secretary. It brought her great benefits. Almost same with other siblings.

So there are teachers who base in teaching writing? Didn't know this.
I remember that my handwriting teacher don't give a damn, the man will just write one stupid sentence on the board like "i love my parents" and will ask us to bring our handwriting notebook to start writing.

Lol.... Yes they now have.
That is why most schools are now sending their teachers out on a course for it. Or employ our services.

Most regular full time teachers don't know how to teach writing from the scratch and all they do is copy from writing books and ask pupils to copy and submit just like you said.

You have to first take them through the different characters of each letters and their positions in the writing book columns. Before giving them text to copy.

Its a huge work but it worth it in the end.
Nice course.

I observed that all our fathers that school in the 70's and 80's have a very good handwriting but we that school from 90's till date have a poor handwriting except for few.

Then we have fully baked the teachers and fully baked students but now we have semi-baked teachers producing semi-baked students.

Conclusion: It is not genetic. I think it depends on training.

I don't think so. It depends....
During primary and secondary school days, I always won d prize for best handwriting in the school. My best friend who had a bad handwriting decided to sit next to me so as to learn my handwriting.
It didn't take her long for her to learn it that hers was even identical to mine.
My younger broda has a ugly writing until my dad taught him. He has the best handwriting in school as of now. Has beaten my record, my writing don worwor sef.
NB: my dad has a beautiful handwriting.

I don't believe it is.

Used to have very bad handwriting until I started imitating my primary school teacher. I now have the only good handwriting in my family.

Then bros it is genetic....you all have bad handwriting in the family till you stopped and tried correcting the gene

Re: Is Handwriting Genetic? by Nobody: 6:14pm On Apr 11, 2020
I think it has little to do with it. My Father's handwriting and signature is some of the best I've ever seen anywhere. My mom's is also very good. Some of my siblings have good writings and some not so good. All clear and readable though. If it's mostly by genetics, we all would have perfectly nice handwritings

Very true.
I used to admire my dads writing. Like it was very artistic. But during our time, we only copy on the red and blue lines and we didn't even understand what those lines meant or stood for. Not until I went for the course and realized there is a lot to writing and not just copying texts which pupils were never and are still not being taught in so many schools.

Writing is a very good asset that everyone especially students must have. Imagine marking a script and I can't make out what a pupil has written due to bad writing, I get frustrated from squinting my eyes and I just strike through and that is "Odo" for that student. It is worse in some schools.
May God help us.

Back in the days, we were taught how to write properly in 'elementary ' class.

We have a writing book dedicated for that.

I can write up to 4 good type writing. In fact I can study a good writing in 5 minutes and recreate it subsequently.
