Lexus and Mercedes are both in the luxury division. Op.... for luxury I would give the C300 the edge. Fuel economy.... almost the same... wouldn't be noticed. But the others...... even a blind man would see the Lexus is better.... wayyyy better. Lastly... there is a reason why the price of a Lexus depreciates very slowly... unlike that of a Benz.

The GS sedan competes with the E Klasse, 5series, A6, acura RL, Infiniti M series. There's no way in heavens and on the earth that will make a c Klasse surpass it given one sample of both cars with same year.

Fuel economy: Don't expect great fuel economy on any.
Parts cost: cc - Kingreign
Luxury: GS, by far.

GS will cost a bit more to purchase.

Engine price is in that ballpark, I believe.

Do not insult the lexus gs by calling a mere mortal (Mercedes c class) beside it. Lexus gs is better in every possible category

C series isn't high up on the Mercedes food chain, that is why even brand new, they have low price tags. Lexus gs is a full size sedan. The Lexus wins in this particular context.
Someone mentioned the equs. That thing is loaded, and bringing a C class close is aberration. Mercedes has built some really good cars, and sometimes their engines outlast the cars they power. Same with all other manufacturers so it'd pay to take a car in context rather than generalize, because its built by a particular manufacturer. Finally, every car manufacturer has a car or more that didn't do well. Live with it �

go for the 05/06 unit. Avoid badly maintained units if you're looking for locally used units, if you're looking for Tokumbo, go for clean title or slightly damaged accident units. Avoid flooded or electrical or mechanically faulty units.

Have a look at a 2009 Acura TSX. The four cylinder is just as fast as the ES, drives a lot better, is rarer, has newer technology, and looks better. AMDMan has advertised a few for under 2m. Same price as the ES330.

Reliabilty: GS hands down. Its a no brainer.
Fuel economy: C300 has slightly better fuel economy. Infact you can say they are the same.
Affordability of spare parts: GS tends to be more expensive.
Luxury: GS is better. C300 is good but GS is better.
Maintenance: GS hands down. It is easier to maintain
Price: GS is always more expensive but not by much.

Personally i'll go for the lexus without thinking twice. Powerful car that handles very well. Very Reliable unlike the benz one week one trouble.
