IamAtikulate: I now can see that you haven't been to the north. I'm a second-generation Yoruba settler in the north. My grandfather came to the north in 1955 and yet I still bear Yoruba name, married a Yoruba, speak Yoruba, speak my own Yoruba dialect very well and have a general Yoruba outlook towards life. Go to any northern city and you will see Nasfat mosque, that is Yoruba mosque for you. 4 Likes |

omonnakoda:Poverty in the north is currently at 66%. Spread across 3 regions, it is 23% per region. An average Northern household count a million at least once in a Year. Unemployment rate in the north is about 10% and when spread across 3 regions is less than 4% per region on average. The 10% are mostly from almajiris |

I fault Mr Sobowale and Mr Maiwada for not understanding that it is the leadership that has failed Nigeria and not SW,SS,SE,NW,NE or the NC. As to who contributes more to the development of Nigeria or the GDP...the SW contributes more than the North. One does not have to look far because during Regional System of Government, the SW became the most developed and the richest region in Nigeria....I think they are still the richest now.... What they had and used excellently well were Education,Intelligence and Human Development. Without oil and with their cocoa, they had a fast growth and were even able to lend financial assistance to Nigeria when it was going down. Nigeria's GDP in the latest computation had 21% of Agric ..the whole North even with NC that is not basically North, can be given 16% of this. Industries took about 23% and Services took 52%.The North will take a little percentage of these. One can imagine where we have the most of Services and Industries..... SW of course. What SW gives the nation or produces include the port in the SW. Some unintelligent people will tell you that Yoruba's do not work as hard as they want...No sir,the world had gone beyond that and so also are the Yorubas who were some of the most physically hardworking people before now as attested to their wealth before the advent of Nigeria. White people who control the economy of the world do not work hard anymore but work smart.. Yorubas work smart.Working smart requires great intelligence, less hardwork and very great reward. 1 Like

kettykings: Put on your glasses and look at the indices provided again. Lagos wasn't even listed. It would be unfair to pair Lagos against any region other than the south-south and that includes the north. Lagos contributed more and would've been richer than any of them if they all were to be countries. That aside, the Agricultural sector the supposed intelligent mallam pointed out as the core strong area of the north still has a SouthWestern state as the highest contributor with three (states) from the region representing in the top 10. And that's the purpose of the evidence. Meanwhile, that's three in five states with Lagos, fairly uncounted, because its strong point isn't the area in question. And to respond to your theory about Lagos living on the businesses of other region. First off, what matters is revenue generation irrespective of what aspect contribute the most. As such, you see some countries who are living grand listing only tourism as their economic stronghold. And they live fine! England, another case study is a very advance country economically and they rely mainly on business. They are the highest contributor to the economy of the United Kingdom with London, the highest contributor overall in all the state across the four co-habiting nations. All the same, how many businesses do you know in Lagos. I guess you think the Alakijas, the Otedolas, the Adenugas, Adelekes and many others like them are mere figure-heads? Or what region do these people come from again? To kill the argument, for every business a non-yoruba set up, there's aa equal number of anothe from a yoruba indigene. Perhaps, you think, we're talking about hawking Gala here or selling Okrika. 3 Likes |
