Mr. Nami is comparing Tax revenue collection for the years Fowler headed the FIRS to those of Jonathan forgetting that Buhari's unpreparedness and cluelessness hastened the economy to recession. Tax revenue is a function of the health of the economy.
From my own simple view, Mr. Nami was brought in knowing that the Government would increase VAT by 2.5% and they needed one of their own to take the glory when the tax revenue increases substantially but it isn't that simple as they thought because with advent of corona virus pandemic and sharp drop in crude price, the Nigerian economy could be headed for the second recession under the same leadership.
Mr. Buhari, Nigeria is for Nigerians and not for the Northerners exclusively and I can't wait for your clueless Northern administration to be over so we can have Southern presidential candidates to elect, I know the presidential contest will be fierce with well educated and visionary leaders that will make us forget your era quickly and only be referenced in history book as days of abject darkness.

Nami claims he met a broken FIRS bureaucracy. That is an allegation that will need some time and a lot more information (from both Fowler and Nami) to prove or disprove.

Some of Fowlers critics on this thread claim that he superintended over a decline in FIRS revenues - among other 'crimes'. Now those are allegations that can be tackled here and now - the information (some of it at least) is in the public domain.

Instead of ridiculing Nami's ethnicity, the key issues of performance (or lack of it) could have been settled - right here on this thread. Lost opportunity.

If all went according to how I read it, then Fowler is by far a better leader. He broadened the tax revenue platform by delving into several other sectors of tax collection, and he reduced corruption in the FIRS by appointing tax consultants instead of the regular staff in the organization. The only problem you have is that he was popular enough across this country to win 2 terms - despite his unequivocal support of rogues and knaves. The question you should ask is why such a large number of people (across Northern and Southern Nigeria) supported him despite these shortcomings. Why?

Those bankers, unfortunately broke the rules. They gave themselves a bad name - no one else did. What I will concede is that there wasn't fairness in that whole exercise - for example, there are big questions as to how Unity Bank escaped the axe - the rumour is that it was kept alive to satisfy 'certain' interests. But Oceanic Bank and Intercontinental Bank contravened CBN guidelines and their MDs broke the law. No two ways about it.
