bamigboye27: Hello, there are different bodies for each province in Canada that issue the guidelines to become a licensed architect in the provinces. Yiu can learn more through online research. I just found this body online that could provide you with information to start your journey to licensing: https://cacb.ca/foreign-architects/ 1 Like |

Landing gist. I got to Canada on march 8. It has not been easy to put down a landing story, but here I am. We ( a family of 4) got to the MMIA, Lagos by 2pm on march 7 for a 11pm flight by Air France. We got there that early cos we travelled from another state far from Lagos, and there was no where we could stay. It was my 1st time traveling so I had no idea of anything. The check in for air France began at 5pm, but before then we met a man who told us he was going to help us with the check in, and truly truly, the man helped us, we were the 1st to be checked, our bags were not weighed and they were not opened but my mum paid the man ( I don't know how much she paid). But the hand luggage were screened, my hand sanitizer was seized. After few hours, we got into the airplane, it's really a big one, the seat was very comfortable. The inflight entertainment was dope. There were more than enough movies to watch, music, games and so on. The food was on point. We were served 3 times, I can't really remember all I ate cos it was many. There was joll of rice with chicken, wine, chocolate, muffins, sweet, coke, cheese, and so on. There was free wifi there also. We were on air for about 6 hours. We stopped at Paris. The airport at Paris is very big, we had to walk for a long time before we got to our boarding gate. We had 8hrs stopover at Paris. After then, we flew with air France again for like 7hrs to Toronto. The inflight entertainment was dope as usual, the food was really good. There was free WiFi We got to Toronto Pearson airport at about 5pm. We did self check in, we used a computer, where we were asked if we had been to China in the past 14 days, if we had meat or diary products and so on, the machine took a picture of us also, from there we went to the immigration section where we submitted our copr, we were asked the same question written on the landing papers, we were told to sit, after about 10 mins, the officer gave us back our papers and told us to sign, he took the ones with our passport photograph. We then went to claim our baggages. We went for our connecting flight to Edmonton. Our flight was with west jet, it was delayed for one hour. The plane was small, there was no inflight entertainment, no WiFi, no blanket, but were served twice, cookies and any drink one wants. We got to Edmonton international airport about 11 pm, we went to pick our bags and then a family member came to pick us up. 65 Likes 4 Shares |

Part 2 The next day, we went to bredin learning centre at Edmonton we were appointed counsellors. So far so good, I've been able to open a bank account with Scotia bank, I have a health card now and I've gone for several check up with the doctor free of charge. I wrote the knowledge test and passed, I know have the class 7 driver's licence. But finding a job has not been easy, I've applied for various jobs, but i have not gotten any cos of the pandemic. I went for interview at Walmart twice, but I was not picked. Staying here has been a good one, the main challenge is finding a job. Thanks for reading........ 60 Likes 2 Shares |

Debv:It will take some time to find a job due to the pandemic and shutdown of non-essential businesses. You came at the worst time- sorry to say. You just have to keep applying for jobs and hope something comes your way. 7 Likes |

@Echonedu1; I'm wondering why the monthly net is $1,400. The tax on $2,000 monthly pay should be around $300. No? |
Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by salford1: 4:10pm On Apr 12, 2020 |
SlowlybtSurely:$600 is indeed quite high, but the poster (screenshot) did acknowledge in the last paragraph that the amount was on the high-end. Maybe just to add an extra buffer. The tax owing on the CERB would vary based on total yearly income. Someone came up with the figures below for Sask. The table made assumptions that applicants worked the remaining 8 months, which may or may not be possible (Some people might move on to EI after CERB while others would drop off completely, and others may find jobs before the 4 month is over or immediately after). Only basic personal tax credit was used. The table also excludes CPP and EI deductions. 3 Likes 2 Shares

Debv:Welcome to Alberta, Canada. I heard it was already becoming difficult to get Walmart jobs (in Calgary), and this was even before the pandemic. However, stay optimistic, a different store in need of hires might still eventually call to ask for your availability. Spread your net as well and apply to different places. 8 Likes |

Cadillac15:CRA at a later date reviews tax returns filed. Most are straight forward e.g. T4s already submitted directly by employer to CRA, T5s already submitted directly to CRA by financial institutions, T4As submitted directly to CRA by Students loans etc. These slam dunk returns are hardly reassessed. However there are some scenarios where returns are reassessed. e.g. Case 1 Sometimes, you forget to report an earning or expense, so you can trigger the reassessment yourself by applying for a T1 adjustment or amendment. Case 2 There are situations where the CRA can't tell if you are being honest with your submissions e.g. donations (religious donations inclusive), professional membership association (if not reported already on T4), childcare fees, self employment expenses etc. After review, they may likely send you an email or a post to submit documents (proof to back up your claim). If you don't send it in within a time period (30 days I think), your tax return would be reassessed and adjusted accordingly. This would mean you end up owing or due for more refund. Most times it's the former. https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/campaigns/income-tax-review.html https://taxsolutionscanada.com/cra-notice-of-reassessment/ 5 Likes 5 Shares |

salford1:There are some claims that are magnets for attracting reassessments. Examples are tuition, medical expenses, moving expenses, union dues, child care expenses and other employment expenses. Basically any claim that needs documentation will likely trigger a review. For this CERB thing i read that it is new to even CRA. But what I hear is that they are not trying to ensure compliance at this time rather the aim is to get money into hands as quickly as possible. Also I think even if you have to pay back CERB it will be interest free and no late payment penalties. So my way of seeing it is that if someone needs the money badly at this time even if you don’t qualify, apply as it is a good way to get 2k per month interest free provided you know that you will pay back when things are better for you. Also you can always make payment arrangement where you will be paying 100 a month. This is strictly my opinion though. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by kpnick: 2:32pm On Apr 13, 2020 |
Aka2003:There was no where it said I didn't qualify. I have read the requirements over and over again. Besides they specifically created a way for ppl in this situation to apply. But if it comes to paying back, no problem. These are uncertain times, nobody knows the way this pandemic will affect things. It's better to have money at hand. 4 Likes |
