What better ways?
There is a pandemic going on.
The labourers that help them pick fruits and help on the farm are not there anymore due to lockdown and fear for life.
Many farmers just allow the fruits to rot because they can't do it alone.
Those that can harvest their products do not have enough storage for them, nobody can come and collect them even for free (because their is movement restrictions , and these are very rural areas far from everybody) so the farm products just go to waste

Are d milk and eggs being destroyed yet to be harvested? Which movement restriction are u referring? Is it Nigeria that went to China to collect test kits from jack ma or it was jack ma who made arrangements to deliver at our doorstep? How are relief materials distributed? Is it d beneficiary that goes looking for relief materials or is d benefactor that looks for ways to get it out to people?

Can they find a way of importing them to Africa instead of destroying them?

With the way things will start going this week, NCDC will start getting their confirmed cases mixed up, thinking that the deaths recorded are COVID-19, not knowing that majority of the deaths are from HUNGER-20.
And we know that when one is severely hungry, it can manifest with different symptoms. Too much hunger can show the combination of symptoms of Ebola Corona and HIV in just one manifestation.

Dear Longthroat, Africa is NOT a dumping ground!! angry angry

Those food items can be shared to Americans for free and used as relief materials and sent to countries that don't have as much. Does it sound like rocket science?
You see ur life? You just rushed to comment without reading the article.
Those goods are perishable goods with no enough preservation storage to keep. So how can they sent it to other countries when their is restriction of logistics and this goods will go bad before even arriving at their destination.

In your vast knowledge, where do you think we will get the money from?, or does that not equate to hunger?
So if ours isn't affordable, how do we afford the imported?
There's is difference between we not having good and not having fund to buy.

Shameless goat, is like the hunger is blocking your comprehension. THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO DISTRIBUTE IN THEIR COUNTRY, DUE TO RESTRICTIONS, HOW WOULD THEY FLY IT DOWN HERE.

Why are you people always looking for free things, 'the poor neigbour' , nothing is free. Everything they give you, they get back in hundred folds. Face your Africa and let's find ways to develop it. Only the youths can make changes, maybe when you are hungry enough, your brain will reset

please Nigeria govt, this is what is meant by the words "Self-sufficient in Food Production", not by forcing ppl to eat our home made rice, we feel we can feed ourselves

Milk will get spoit and cannot get processed. They majorly use liquid milk, and need staff to process it, pasteruise it. Even your powdered milk is processed into powder. You need staff to do that.
Eggs also need storage, where will they keep the millions of eggs produced daily, without transporting them to shops and the millions of eateries that use them? Almost all eateries are closed.
Majority of farmers dont have a hundredth of resources available to Jack Ma. They're also just sttuggling themselves. Its just like comparing a palm kernel or rice farmer in Nigeria to Dangote. That's ridiculous, they're only just small time businessmen themselves.
Last but not the least, there is a pandemic going on, affecting everyone. Do not expect anybody or any nation to leave their burning houses and cater to yours. If Africa- specifically Nigeria starts burning alongside the other nations, nobody will look our way. Nigeria will not look the way of Chad either when dealing with their own issues

Then you never took note of my initial response. I was responding to someone advocating that the food be shipped to Africa.
As much as they are dependent variables, they are still different. If our poverty level won't let us afford local food, then we don't need a soothsayer to tell us that we can't afford foreign either.

If it's imported, will it be shared for free? Can an average Nigerian afford imported food?

There are millions of hungry Americans that can barely feed themselves under normal circumstances, why can't the government set up an emergency supply chain to distribute the foods freely to them? Oh, I remember, it will disrupt the GDP records and make the country look like an anti-capitalist country. They still can't see that the time for the American dream is over and that it is time to face reality and reach out to others for the survival of the human race.

Yes there is restriction on movement but that doesn't mean essentials like food aren't being moved around. If d restrictions were iron clad restrictions, I believe d situation would have been much more worse. Even if milk doesn't have a long shelf life but eggs do.

So which milk are they throwing away? Is it milk that was just harvested? When was d milk harvested? How long is d shelf life of egg?

If these farmers don't have d resources of jack ma, nothing stops them from donating these goods to d govt for upward distribution as it deems fit. D jack ma analogy was to help u understand how relief materials move. They move from d benefactor to d beneficiaries especially in cases like this

Their government doesn't have time for that right now. They are busy with the virus killing thousands of their citizens daily. 2000 people died within 24 hours, 2 days ago. I've not checked the figures in the last 24 hours yet.
Their farmers are not happy their food is wasting, their govt is not happy either that they're unable to get enough food to all their citizens , yet you expect them to remember to donate food to some african nation thousands of miles away, with all the logistics involved in this pandemic?
If they can do that, that means they wouldn't have trouble with supplying their own citizens with food, because I can assure you there are many starving people in the US that would also need that food.

Too much food in the midst of so much hunger.
Dumping food cos no one to consume, whereas somewhere, there is not enough to go round.

The govt and other philantropists should be able to cover the cost of transporting/exporting this foods down the food chain.

The reason for this wastage is because once you build your economy solely based on capitalism, this is what you get.

This is one area that governments globally have failed woefully. Food security has always been the exclusive of private companies and individuals.

It exposed the incompetents of government to coordinate proper food distribution along the entire food value chain. And you have knuckleheads chairing boards of that useless UNFPA.

Sometimes, I ponder if humanity actually need government to survive. Aside from taxing individual to death and making Draconian laws that put hindrance to human development, engaging in senseless wars, printing and controlling where and how money flows, what better use is. government?
This is what we call the downsides of capitalism.
Foods made by private companies do not take into account the needs because it's all profit.
