Explorers: You don’t spend 4 years in flight school, your performance will determine how long you stay there, you should be done in 1yr 6 months or less. Big companies will employ you with 300hrs or less, you will be doing what is called line training then move to the right seat (co pilot) 3 Likes |

MansoryMX: It's easier said than done. To be a pilot in other countries, you'll need to have work permit / permanent residency or be a citizen of that country to be able to work and secondly, you will have to convert your pilot license to that of that country which also costs a lot of money that I currently don't have... |

mosquitoway: I already have my instructors rating and have over 500 flight hours I know spending more money can help to possibly secure a job but some of the ways I know will cost above $20,000 (₦7.2 mil) which I simply don't have 3 Likes 1 Share |

Explorers:From my extensive research Florida is one of the best places to attend a flight school buh its cost of living, accomodation and is expensive.. And for the flight hours, I think you need 1500 flight hours to make it to the cockpit of the average airlines as co-pilot. Its standard FAA requirement, i think it was formally 1000hours. Another thing i got from my personal research a while ago was that not all student pilots make it to the cockpit...its expensive being a pilot and airlines are not willing to pay for training as much and only a few very expensive schools will give you 1500 flight hours and i didnt even find one of such schools in the US...you have to hustle for it and from private plane or light craft charters and per hours charters may range from about $300 to $700 or even more(cant remember vividly, been a while) that leaves a student to hustle really hard enough to fend for himself and also to afford to accumulate flight hours enough to even be considered by any cheap airline. It hard out there unless you have rich parents or sponsors or a good scholarship. My 2 cents 4 Likes 1 Share |

Explorers: The money is too small, type rating alone in a good school like CAE will take up to N10m. To become ideally employable or increase your chances of employment you need at least N20m. Else you will be roaming the street with a CPL 4 Likes |

Nothing is more beautiful than mounting the Cockpit of a Boeing 737-400 or even beta still the queen of the skies boeing 747(she’s a beauty), perhaps you may fancy the Airbus 350-900 but I prefer the 747 with the CFM engines installed, your can hear the engines roar, as the Capt. and his co-pilot go over the checking list and paperwork, just before being released by d ground team with the air traffic controller directing them on which runway to use and the chattering going on in the ops room. Oboy, trust me if you have been there you will love the aviation industry. Without any bias, as an easterner, I truly have to give much accolades to the giant strides the northerners and westerners made in insuring their kids had the best training when it comes to the aviation industry, and if you check very well most pilots we have are either northerners, westerners or expatriates and a few southerners and this is where I must commend Goodluck Jonathan, he sponsored a handful of his people to become certified pilots mostly rotary wings. Regarding their salaries, using statistics from U.S Dept of Transport an avg. Pilot earn avg. $84k Annually which translates to 2.8mill(@410 Naira per USD), back here in Naija I know a certain commercial airline whose 1st and 2nd officers receive 500k - 1mill per month then and an experienced Pilot amongst them received 3M per month. My brothers and sisters even if you don’t have money to study piloting, try; avionics, cabin crew, Airframe engineering, Aviation Security, Flight operations or radio room operations ,etc. I encourage anyone who whats to become a pilot one day should start from somewhere within the industry and overtime You can save up to become that pilot you dreamed of. I know line engineers who became pilots, I even personally know a guy who worked with one of the major airline as an I.T support staff, after years he became an Engineer. PS: Schools in Eastern Europe tend to be more affordable compared to aviation schools in Western Europe but don’t forget if you want to work in Naija you will still need to take conversion courses. Goodluck. 7 Likes |

superamoled:Write to your senator or governor. My cousin was lucky under GEJ era to benefit from such benevolence. I know it is frustrating but keep pushing. You can create a YouTube channel, discuss about aviation. Many Nigerian youth both old and young wish to be in your position. While you wait for a job, you can start a vlog from your home.
