nihilistjnr: On the field, he seems to need much space to operate more than Hazard though. I think Hazard is better and stronger in tight spaces. All that falling Neymar does won't work in 5-a-side. Also Futsal is quite different from 5-a-side. 1 Like |

BlueRayDick: To the best of my knowledge 1. Lagos still remain the Epic center and the commissioner of health in Lagos said they have had some case of community transmission even though they are aggressively doing contact tracing. Some of the new cases in the other states can even be traced to Lagos so it makes sense to still lockdown Lagos. Ogun has close proximity to Lagos, that’s why it’s also on the lockdown list and Abuja has the second highest case after Lagos so that explains that. 2. Buhari didn’t lockdown the entire country, it is other states apart from Lagos, Ondo, FCT that are locking down their states within their own right. While the Airport is closed to commercial travels out of the country, the ports are still open and running. Now on the issue of palliative, The FG cannot do it alone, apart from the fact that Nigeria is broke, state governments need to play their own part in whatever way they can. Buhari did says he has mandated NASSCO who are in charge of the Nationals social register to increase the number of household beneficiaries from 2.6m to 3.6m (Even though when compared to our population, this figure is really negligible) but this is our current reality and we have to find a way to get out of this lockdown ASAP. 3. I think I have answered this in the first point. Those new states with new cases has to have an exponential increase in case before considering lockdown. It’s not an easy decision to lockdown in a country like ours. Pls, if you can help those around you. 1 Like |

larride: Alright I get Ur explanation. The problem I have with FG concerning the palliative measures is how they are going about it. If he claims 2.6m people have benefited from the stimulus package, how many of those 2.6m people are situated in Lagos, Ogun and FCT where he ordered total lockdown? I live in Lagos and I'm yet to hear of any close by local government that it's people have been beneficiaries of this stimulus package. If the government is claiming people in Nassarawa, etc are the poor and vulnerable this may be far from the truth. I once stayed at Okoko as a student and I saw poverty in full HD in that part of Lagos. These are the people who need the stimulus package, not those in other states where the lockdown is not in force. I fear there might be Chaos before this 2 weeks extension lapses with the way things are going. As regards helping those around, I've done my bit in that capacity for few family and friends I can afford. 3 Likes |

chic2pimp: It wasn't easy brother, I'm still weak, it took us a whole week and we didn't give more than 1200 sacks of items....At some point, I wondered how tasking this would be for the Government to cover a whole state and then the entire country. We didn't give to everyone here, just aged ones and widows yet it was very very demanding. I have the whole of this week to rest though The joy it brought to these old folks, the prayers, the smile i saw on their faces made me really happy I was part of it. 2 Likes |

BlueRayDick: I think there’s a general misconception about the 20k that is been shared, let me explain pls. 1. The 20k that is been shared for the poorest of the poor is an accumulation of 4 months that they haven’t been paid. That’s Jan, Feb, March and April. 2. The program didn’t start today, the program started in 2016 under the National Social Investment Program (NSIP) under the office of the Vice President till 2019 when a new ministry was created called the ministry of humanitarian affairs and NSIP was moved to the ministry. NSIP consists of N-Power, TraderMoni, MarketMoni, National School Feeding Program and CCT. 3. The most asked question: How did they come about the list of beneficiaries? We have 774 Local Government in Nigeria and under the poverty index of the country, it rates each local government with their level of poverty from highest to lowest. Then the FG through the ministry of budget and national planning engaged each state on the need to create a social register which the NSIP will use to get that will be on the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT). So each state train and set up coordinators while the NSIP set up monitors to compliments the work of the coordinators. What are the criteria used? The criteria used are the standards which the world bank uses to ascertain poverty which make up the following a. Community Based Testing (CBT) b. Proxy Means Testing (TBT) The community based testing give the community the opportunity to define what poverty means to them and how to identify the poorest among them through each ward in the local government, after defining poverty in their community, they collate the names of those they consider poorest among them and send to the local government for vetting by the coordinators and monitors. Proxy means Testing is where the monitors representing the NSIP go round the communities with the list they got from the CBT to ascertain the level of poverty in the households and individuals which names has been collated and submitted through CBT. Some of the questions the monitors will ask while conducting the PMT includes no of children, whether widow or widower, no of TV set, gen set, source of income and the likes. After vetting the names through PMT, the names are collated from all the local government in the state and sent to the State Ministry of budget and planning which they use to set up the State Social Register. It is each State Social Register that NASSCO compile together to get the National Social Register which list is what is being used to pay this people since 2018. Currently out of 774 LGA, we only have about 440 LGA enrolled in the National Social Register. Each State government has a lot of to do since the training of staffs for coordinators are directly under them. It’s important to note also that about 80% of those currently enrolled in the program are in the North. They get 5k every month from the FG but since the beginning of this year they haven’t been paid that’s why Buhari ordered for 4 months to be paid at once to them. PS: Everyone on the Social Register is registered with a wallet ID and an Identification card. This is what the ID looks like. 1 Like

larride: If I get the explanation above, what u are saying is there is already a social welfare scheme in place that pays 5k to registered vulnerable and less privileged people every month. Now the 20k being shared is the arrears of the past 3 months and this current month for the existing beneficiaries under the social welfare scheme 1. My question is if the above is correct, it means the FG is presently not doing anything to cushion the effect of the lockdown because the 20k being shared is just to the existing beneficiaries of the social welfare programme and not those adversely affected by this lockdown. 2. Why is the government saying it is giving stimulus package to people adversely affected by the lockdown when it is just continuing with the existing social welfare programme and nothing else? 3. The planned expansion of the register for the social welfare programme, on what premise will it be done? Will it be to include people affected by the lockdown or just normal addition of beneficiaries under the existing social welfare programme? 3 Likes |

The last 15 pages have certainly been an interesting read. Quite unfortunate I missed the convo. Ibime and Raumdeuteur, you must know that it is a fool's errand when attempting to challenge one's religious beliefs or aspects of it because the foundations of such belief has been laid since birth and the core principle of religion or a belief system is based upon a foundation of complete faith without doubt, having doubts is looked upon as blasphemy which is a grave sin. Not to forget that from birth, you are given a mental image of how the Bible is a very powerful book, you are made to believe that the Bible is not just a book made of papers from tree like any other book but that it has powers, you are told to believe every single word of the Bible without ever questioning it if not you are questioning God himself. All these beliefs are reinforced all through the stages of one's growth, apart from the church, you are asked to pray also in school, almost all nollywood films we watched were of religious ideologies or backgrounds. So it is almost impossible to break from that belief system. I am a living example of the painful, stressful and harrowing experience of shedding these beliefs and re-orientating my Psychological and lifes dogma. You see I come from a very strong catholic background, as a matter of fact, almost everyone in my village in the east is a Catholic because the Catholics were the first missionaries to come our village and my grandfather was one of the early converts and was even made a warrant chief by the British, so naturally all his children my dad included were very strong Catholics. I was born a catholic, received the sacraments, became a mass servant and lay reader and my parents even sent me to a religious secondary school. I was so fervent in my rosarys( an important catholic form of praying) I prayed it on a daily basis. I was made a school functionary and as the SP I usually led the whole students on prayers everyday. It was in my university day's that I started watching foreign movies, then one's exposure to information or the internet was limited so it wasn't easy as it is today to research from a wide variety of sources on the internet. It was while watching a foreign movie in university that I first heard someone question God's existence for the first time in my life. I was shocked and furious immediately but then the seeds of doubt had been sown. When I narrated my doubts and feelings to my roommate then, that was when he gave me a run down of different religious beliefs over the world and this further fuelled my doubts. This period of sustained doubt was quite an excruciating one because my curiosity and inquisitive nature made me research further and the more I learnt further about the history of the church especially it's negative parts, how the colonisers used religious indoctrination to subdue the old African communities and rule over them, or how evil some of the old popes were 9r how pedophiles were rampant in the Catholic Church, all these things made me feel bad even for myself, I felt I was blaspheming, I would go for numerous confessions, because I deeply felt I was sinning against God just by having doubts and questions about all I have been told since birth. Believe you me, it took a long time and process for me to accept that I was agnostic about God. Richard Dawkins was a man I listened to severally because of his brilliant skill of using science to debunk religious myths. When my agnosticism about God was established and I told my parents, my dad instantly changed me from unizik where I was studying industrial engineering and put me in a religious university. To my parents, their only logical reason why I could have "abandoned" God was because I must have joined a diabolical cult all my attempts to prove otherwise were futile. My efforts to voice my reasons for my doubts would only make me looked possessed in my dad's eye . Every holiday became a nightmare, because of my dad's fanatism and senior position in church, he would invite our priest to come and celebrate mass in our house I was still forming stronghead, till he made it clear that he would cut me off financially if I didn't drop these "deadly" ideas of atheism. Oboi na there I begin form prayerful for house. I started leading rosary everyday in the house. I had to pretend that i still believed till I finished from University. But guess what, my mom now gradually understands some of the points I've been making, after introducing her to nairaland few years ago, she became exposed to other religious views and that has opened her eyes. Its certainly not an easy road to start undoing all the effects of the indoctrination and brain washing but one has to try. 8 Likes 3 Shares |
