I want to clear the air,for those of you who may think that marital rites in Igboland are generally the same or expensive, this is my own list, given to Hubby's family. I'm from Enugu state,Nkanu West precisely. Mind you,I'm doing traditional/wedding same day, only the things in this list, will go no where in entertaining people but we needed not kill the young man with long list because he's getting married, so my family will provide the rest of the food like anything that has to do with swallow and more drinks.
The 1st item on the list,"4 tudun of palm wine",I will post a picture of what we call "tudun" for clarification,(I dont know the English name of that long gallon).
Again, as few as the drinks on the list are, on that day,we will not serve Hubby's family any drink,we will only give them food, they said we shouldn't, that they will come with their own drinks, had it been that their drinks were among, extra 5 or 6 crates of beer and 2 or 3crates of malt would have been added.
Introduction and bride price have been done before now.

Re: ........... by ednut1(m): 1:49pm On Apr 15, 2020
Cant find shop or kiosk on the list.
Re: ........... by Paxie55: 1:52pm On Apr 15, 2020
This is good. At least, nobody will claim the head of the family.

You two are co-heads of the family.

If the girls families start bringing some thing like This, we will stop hearing the rants of street urchins on how they fully paid and sponsored the wedding and thereby, have right to do as they wish.

To make it easier for him.

Why not fill 4 gallons with water and call on the name of Jesus, it will just turn to palm wine

Re: ........... by Nobody: 2:00pm On Apr 15, 2020
Loud it sister!
My pammy was even smaller.
2 cabin biscuits, chewing gum and 2 crates of soft drink for the maidens.

The boys( comprises of local boys) are given one cockerel and one yam to cook it with plus a carton of beer. The family usually supply this. This is for the boys that helped in canopy mounting and some stuffs.

I have been to marriage in rivers and ògwashìukwu,I no fit talk.

When the bridal list was sent to my in laws my mother in-law called me to confirm if it's really the marriage list or just for introduction.
Re: ........... by Mstick: 2:40pm On Apr 15, 2020
My brother married a Rivers State lady, at some point my family wanted to leave.

They brought a totally different list from the initial list they gave.if you see list!!!!

Before the dowry payment day we had to give 30 bags of pepper and 30 bags of salt so they can share in their community which is strange.

When the lady heard what her family members were up to she started crying.

Wow.. It's similar to ours. Only a slight difference.
I'm from Abia. In addition to what you have here, ours contains,
snuff,
1 massive male goat,
Salt ( for Umu Ada)
Then 8k as bride price. Father takes 4k while mother takes 4k. That's all.

Everything on the list is what is used in preparing the food that will be used for the occasion. No extras, except your guy wants to show off by buying extra drinks and stuffs but no body will task him again.

Please show them, always dragging Igbo girls for nothing. Although some kinsmen can be really wicked especially when the father of the bride isn't alive, the best thing is to negotiate.
