The baker and the beauty. This is probably for the romantics at heart trust me you can’t but like the series. But what are they doing in Israel movie industry they have some great movies that have been adapted by Hollywood 2 Likes

armadeo: Definitely the best ever Second only to toiken's Lord of the rings Although I like GOT better GRRM said the ending to the books is similar to the books I fuvking hope not Can't go through another trauma like the series. |

Dr7Manhattan: GRRM literature stomps on JRR Tolkien's. |

junnyjake: Prison Break should have ended in season 3. Season 4 and 5 were mistakes that should never have happened. My opinion though. 7 Likes |

Kaycee7: GRRM is smart. He doesn't want to alienate fans of JRR Tolkien. Everyone knows GRRM has the better literature. |
Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by Kaycee7(m): 3:11pm On Apr 15, 2020 |
DandeNummeruno:How? They both have great stories, characters and awesome world building but GRRM admitted that crafting languages wasn't his thing and that was one of the areas where Tolkien had him beat. |
Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by DandeNummeruno: 3:19pm On Apr 15, 2020 |
Kaycee7: Tokien was from a different generation. In his generation, fantasy writers pay more attention to wordplay and poetry. It made him a superior writer. But it terms of gritty, and complex storytelling, GRRM had Tolkein beat. |
Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by Dr7Manhattan: 3:25pm On Apr 15, 2020 |
DandeNummeruno: Not according to critics or most people really, but from my perspective I like a song of fire and ice better. But Tolkien literally inspired GRRM, he even admitted it himself. Lord of the rings is regarded as one of the greatest novels of all time, he is the master of fantasy storytelling, I agree your opinion if that's what it is, but don't ever disrespect Tolkien. |
Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by DandeNummeruno: 3:28pm On Apr 15, 2020 |
Dr7Manhattan: Tolkien inspired loads of modern fantasy writers, but it doesn't give his literature a mantle of invincibility. GRRM books are better imho. |
Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by Kaycee7(m): 3:45pm On Apr 15, 2020 |
DandeNummeruno:I'll concede gritty. But on complex storytelling, I'll admit a draw. |
Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by Dr7Manhattan: 4:25pm On Apr 15, 2020 |
DandeNummeruno: Nothing to argue about here I totally agree I prefer GRRM books too But that might change after I see the Lord of the ring series that Amazon are developing. If it's better , I'm jumping ships right away GRRM's lazy ass won't complete the books anyway. |
Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by DandeNummeruno: 4:30pm On Apr 15, 2020 |
Kaycee7: GRRM also wins at characterization, character development and manipulating reader's emotions. Only GRRM has made me go from liking a character to absolutely despising them, and wishing them the worst, and after getting my wish, started feeling sorry for, and wishing them the best. |
Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by DandeNummeruno: 4:32pm On Apr 15, 2020 |
Dr7Manhattan: This. It's the only chink in GRRM's armor. The guy's a lazy writer. In a period it will take him to complete a single book, Stephen King would complete 2. 2 Likes |

DandeNummeruno:Tolkien did the same to me with Thorin in The Hobbit. And there's a character in The Silmarilion who's looking like they'll fvck with my head at some point. Still a draw, IMO |

Kaycee7: Tolkien no pass am oo... No one pass am, they ruined the series at the end, but the books are legendary How someone will sit down and be imagining 7 kingdoms, different languages and all still beats me till date He's a genius I'll always be grateful his works were adopted into a show, cos if not for the series, I may never know such quality stuff exists 1 Like |
Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by DandeNummeruno: 5:16pm On Apr 15, 2020 |
Kaycee7: I was expecting you to say Gollum. He was by far the most complex creation of Tolkien. Gollum inspired somewhat superficial conflicting emotions in me. Superficial because, Tolkien's characters are mythologically inspired, and hence, are incapable of inspiring real emotions in readers. Can you sympathize or hate something you can't relate to? |

Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by Kaycee7(m): 6:10pm On Apr 15, 2020 |
DandeNummeruno:Which is why I didn't name Gollum. Thorin was more relatable to me as he was dealing with human emotions and temptations which I have an idea of as a person, unlike Gollum that was twisted by a magical ring. |

Kaycee7: So what was I talking about? Just say you don't understand my post. Don't need to explain further |
Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by DandeNummeruno: 6:40pm On Apr 15, 2020 |
Kaycee7: You don't understand. What do Thorin and Gollum have in common? They are both mythical creatures, yes? Empathizing with Thorin and Gollum is no different from the way we empathize with cunning Tortoise from our African folklores. Superficial. To compare, GRRM's characters are historically inspired. The emotions they inspire in readers are real because their actions are drawn from history, rather than folktales. The unrelenting grit is embedded in realism. 1 Like |
Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by Kaycee7(m): 7:10pm On Apr 15, 2020 |
DandeNummeruno:Thorin's a dwarf. That's like saying Tyrion is a mythical creature. Fiction is fiction. Doesn't matter what inspires it. Intact I'll have more respect for the author that makes me relate to a non-human character. I think you rate GRRM higher because the world of Ice and Fire is grounded more in realism with just a touch of the mythical, as opposed to the world of Middle-Earth that is chest deep in fantasy. 1 Like |
