GabrielYulaw: still dont believe the news of this new contract of 42 mi 28 . what algeria will do with 84 mi 28 NE . i will wait until i read it from better source . maybe an upgrade of our mi 8 to mi8AMTS version seems more logical and for egypt its impossible a war with algeria . no serious subject of conflict or interest which cross. especially that Algeria does not interfere with the internal affairs of other countries and distanced itself from the problems of the Arab countries the probable threats that the Algerian army foresees and trains to counter in the exercises that we see each time , its a war with morocco ( we have borders problem with them from independency+ western sahara problem) and second serious theat is a large NATO scale attack (like libyan one) . + terrorism |

Please, look at the title of the thread and you all take your ramblings elsewhere if you don't want to contribute to it. There is a politics section on nairaland. Why come to disturb us here? Okay, Nigerian Armed Forces are useless. Everybody else in Afirca is better than us. Can we have some peace now? 1 Like |

Litmus: A guy here was wondering who to believe out of many making contradictory statements. So, I essentially told him to go through this thread, note the people who mostly have no ax to grind and generally make true statements. Those people to me are worth believing whenever they speak here, cos their past antecedents show they are to be trusted. I don't know where you are coming or going to with the native or colonial line. 2 Likes |

S400: Time will tell about the new contract. I think it is real though, cos the claim was made by a reputable Twitter source. I am however unable to find further proof for it online. Why I said perhaps Algeria intends to face off against Egypt is that the two are the most heavily armed nations on the continent. The amount of tanks, arty and air support these two countries have could make an alien have a heart attack and sh1t itself! I honestly don't see NATO attacking Algeria. They have learned their lesson in Libya and the Algerian military is not the hopelessly incompetent buffoons that was Qaddafi's army. But again, time will tell. 1 Like 1 Share |

GabrielYulaw: In short, it seems like the worst advice ever that individuals who were truthful in the past deserve trust today and in the future - whatever Truth means. If the colonial analogy missed the mark, what about how a molester may win the trust of children today by offering sweets yesterday? But I shan’t labour the point any longer. btw i'm the guy you were advicing |

yoged:This is how we lose men on the front, they get pinned down waiting for the time the heat will reduce while getting flanked and surrounded by these terrorists. LMG or any other MG would save them in this kind of situation. Even sporadic firing of their riffles will help. Remembering the video of General Adeniyi saying 100s of RPGs were fired from every angle. This is the strategy these terrorist use, if only we could use it on them but they would just run. They have nothing to lose in retreating This is why we need more amour in the frontline. Some people who have never witnessed a gunfight except from their TV screen will open mouth and be calling boys cowards. Stand recklessly in this situation and you are gone. 13 Likes |

I may be wrong and would want to be corrected but a toy drone from Ali express would help in knowing the direction the heat is coming from and helped save lifes almost effortlessly. The use of different kinds of drones for surveillance in this war can never be overemphasised. The video is proof that our troops will always be at a disadvantage when on the defensive. Take the war to them, isolate and neutralise continously for months, let intelligence agencies together with law enforcement search every liberated settlemets for those among them who will have joined civilian population waiting for the military to leave before regrouping. I don't know whether the military doesn't interrogate those among the terrorist they catch. Most of them Won't talk without being made to but I trust the boys to know how to handle cases like that. We just need to change our strategy in this war. 4 Likes |

Firing their weapons sporadically while being flanked, without seeing what they are shooting at? even if they did. Why does that sound like a bad idea. I mean, so they run out of bullets, then what? I would think that's the point you conserve your armo, not waste it 4 Likes |
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Whyem15: 7:41am On Apr 16, 2020 |
Sizzorkay:The terrorist won't move unless they are sure the soldiers are helplessly pined down. If some of the soldiers shoot continuously towards the direction of the first attack, terrorist not seeing them would have the impression that the troops are more than they estimated or might have been reinforced. There is no point in conserving bullets when you are being surrounded. Militants in the Syria and Iraq who are in supporting the government's fight against ISIS have been the most effective forces in the fight because they employ these terrorist tactics and are always on the offensive. 3 Likes |

Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Whyem15: 8:07am On Apr 16, 2020 |
Sizzorkay:That and more, the soldiers were lying down because lots of bullets were being fired towards their positions, it is normal human nature to avoid danger, it can also be used against the terrorist. If they are given the notion that those soldiers won't stop resisting, they will reconsider their strategy. If enough bullets is fired towards their positions too, many of them would seek cover. That is exactly the reason why one of the soldiers was asking why they haven't fired RPG. If about 50 RPGs were fired by the troops towards the position of the terrorist, trust me it will have a psychological effect on them and they might retreat. 2 Likes 1 Share |

It is because this strategy has been effective against few number of soldiers, that is why they have been attempting to use it on large numbers of troops. That is the only reason they've been killing large number of of Nigerian and chadian soldiers. Watched a video on Henry's thread where general Adeniyi was recording a video for his superior, from the video, it could be infered that the same strategy was used against them and they had to call for air support. It is not every time that the aircraft will be available, they should do more about countering this strategy themselves. Also more wheeled vehicles should be deployed has the general reported they've had to change several hilux tires tyres, we have a lot of assets in the head quaters of other divisions of the army that will help a lot, I don't know why they are not deployed. We just need to get lots more shilka guns and improve the armour, that beast was very effective when they were used, I know that some of them were destroyed, I don't know what happened to the rest. 3 Likes |

Cameroon recently ordered 300-350 of the ZSU 23 shilka(check Wikipedia), it is very cheap and hundreds could be delivered in a short period. These terrorist know they don't have the armour we have, yet they've negated it with superior firepower. We need to employ more RCWS too. 6 Likes |

SamuelAnyawu: Can you describe it better please? The Shilka is like a tank. But there are 4 cannons on it. The guns can be fired individually or all at once. Can you go to the Chadian military equipment page on Wikipedia and try to find out which gun you saw. Thankus 3 Likes 1 Share |

SamuelAnyawu:They use a certain antiaircraft cannon with two barrels, don't know the namw but it isn't shilka, shilka is self propelled, the one the chadians use is mounted on light utility trucks if I'm right. It is the earlier version of the shilka- ZU23 2. It uses 2 barrels and isn't self propelled while the shilka employs 4 barrels and is self propelled 1 Like 1 Share |

Whyem15: Is it expected from trained soldiers who are taught to take cover from a position where they can return fire immediately , change positions even under fire , maintain situational awareness while under fire, defend their positions even under blithering fire , take the offensive even under blithering fire , retreat / withdraw safely while under fire etc. If soldiers can't do that , they have no business being soldiers. A soldier will always come under fire. Reason if they don't do that they will get themselves killed and sadly they will get their comrades killed too. 10 Likes 1 Share |

Whyem15: Hope all the boys in the video are safe It's is not fair on my part to comment on an event based on a short video clip . I will not be able to do justice unless I get to see the video of the entire event. Possibly fail even then. And also it is easy to pass judgements on others in dire life threatening situations while I may be no better when caught in the same situation. So hopefully you understand my corundum. In a generalized context let me point out something's. When a convoy comes under a ambush , the drivers are taught to disperse even under fire and only then they are supposed to dismount and take cover. ( In the video the vehicles are all bunched up ) The soldiers are similarly taught not to bunch up together . Only buddy teams in 2/3 nos are meant to be at one location. ( In the video everybody seems to be converging at one point and all bunched up ) This is to divide the enemies firepower and allow the defending teams widely dispersed better opportunities to pinpoint enemy fire and take it down. Infact some teams are assigned ( rather the contact teams themselves ) to purposefully draw enemy fire on themselves so that other teams can pinpoint the enemy location and take it down. In a given situation why that is not being done is something those in charge must take note of , since they are the ones who are in direct charge and in the know. I myself was caught in an ambush which I mentioned long time back . Personally I believe NA needs to revamp it's CT training and lay more emphasis on drills relating to contact drills , immediate ambush drills, counter ambush drills 15 Likes 1 Share |

nemesis8u: That's one of the reasons for NA high death rate when troops are in contact. They so often stack up together. Video after combat video we see this anomaly with regular army troops. Not the same with specialized troops though. I agree with the part in bold. 4 Likes |
