President Donald Trump unveiled recommendations to start the process of states reopening the U.S. economy that has been severely damaged by the coronavirus pandemic.


The ''Opening up America Again'' guidelines were announced Thursday at the White House after a call with governors of all 50 states. The president is giving the states the authority to make decisions about how to proceed. Trump had said earlier this week that it was his call on when to relax restrictions.

"Some states will open sooner than others," Trump said. "Some states are not in the kind of trouble that others are in. Now that we have passed the peak in new cases, we're starting our life again. We're starting rejuvenation of our economy again in a safe and structured and very responsible fashion."

The plan would involve three phases. The first allows for limited opening of businesses, including restaurants and gyms, that observe social distancing.
The second opens schools and allows gatherings of more than 50 people in addition to further lessening of restrictions on businesses. Non-essential travel also would be allowed.

The third step opens large venues and businesses. Under all the phases, people vulnerable to the coronavirus would either shelter-in-place or have limited movement in public.

Now, he wants to open up the economy as early as possible inspite of still high number of cases of COVID-19. To some people this sounds rational. However, the fact is that this move is driven by selfishness because his 2nd term campaign strategy is woven around performance of the economy, which was doing very well until COVID-19 lockdown.

Khiaa, what's happening? Why do you hate your president so much? Left for me, there's alot of sense in what's his trying to do. Whatever the case may be, we can't afford to shut down the world's economy forever. Decisions would still need to be made at some point in time and it would only take a courageous leader to take that bold steps.

While other world leaders are still battling for their breathes, he has taken a step forward by having a plan in place to open the economy. That's a great news coming from the great man himself. The second phase is as useless as the first. Which says "opens schools and allows gatherings of more than 50 people in addition to further lessening of restrictions on businesses. Non-essential travel also would be allowed". Most schools have more than 50 people and how do you enforce the restriction of gatherings to 50 people? What happens if a gathering is more than 50 people? Who determines essential and non essential travel? Is it restricted to local or international travel?

The third phase is more stupid than the rest; "people vulnerable to the coronavirus would either shelter-in-place or have limited movement in public". Who are the people vulnerable to the virus? Is the whole population not vulnerable to the virus? Is Trump himself and his family not vulnerable to the virus?
