My suggestion may sound ridiculous but then we are in, well, extraordinary times. It also requires a bit of parental sacrifices. Children themselves have to be a little self motivated — a trait that is required for high success in life(they may as well start developing it now). Parents need ; A PC /workstations per child (assuming they currently don't have)— preferably in a secluded environment. Good seats. Internet connectivity (with substantial data subscription) - ISPs have various "unlimited" monthly plans priced within the N20k - 30k band. Now the real deal; * Note that my brief is specifically aimed at the 6,3,3 cadres of our 6,3,3,4/5 system— university undergraduates should know what to read. Parents may choose any of the following hubs to create interactive learning paths for their wards. 1. Www.Brilliant.org (specifically for the sciences but a very rich resources) costs about N10k per year per child. 2. Khanacademy.org (a free online learning hub). 3. Curriculumpathways.com (Jim goodnight of SAS created this lovely resource to help the American schooling child. It's great/interactive).— downside being, social studies and history are geared towards the USA and different from our syllabus. 4. ULesson.com looks good too — it'll cost you about Though and it is targeted at the Senior secondary school cadre. It also has a Nigerian relevant syllabus.but a bit limited to the core subjects. Parents can creat accounts for their wards on these platforms (any) and guide the children along relevant school course work. Some of these platforms are interactive and create a gamified (rewarding) experience as the children learn. Parents should welcome questions from kids and probably is the opportunity to know somethings they probably don't yet Parents may block access to other websites that create distracting tendencies i.e Facebook,YouTube, Twitter etc. Other costs are Power, Data plans. E.t.c. Funnily these costs aren't up to the average cost of tuition in a private primary/secondary institution— excluding other school costs. That's because the real cost is Focus & discipline. I have been confident that "education without school" was an achievable possibility most of us never considered for our children (some argue that home schooling create social deficiencies in a child's life- due to limited interaction with peers in school settings) but if there was ever a time to put it to test tis now. 1 Like |

Massive dropouts(from tertiary institutions) is what we really need. Our overloaded educational system churning out incompetent graduates must be reformed. This is the age of skill and not certificates. |

Fear is behind most lockdowns, Trump is taking a daring step to reopen American economy. If we refuse to face our fear there's no way we can face out our fear. |

I believe the federal and state governments have done a bit to avoid this by organising state sponsored tutorials on radios And state owned television, speaking for our state though. |

OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM HAS ALWAYS BEEN A FLOP, SO NOTHING MORE SERIOUS WILL HAPPEN. SCHOOLS CLOSURE IS PRACTICALLY A GLOBAL PHENOMENON WHICH MEANS THAT OF NIGERIA SHOULDN’T BE A THING TO WORRY ABOUT. |

Christthesaviour: 1: Some schools have had an online system before lock-down so the kids are very much engaged from 9am to 2pm 2: Education otherwise is already in tatters - it was found out that expensive schools pass their students because they do not want to loose patronage. this is very evident when they take summer camps and return poor results when compared with kids abroad. 3: Register on NCEE website for Past Questions, Use Youtube Education Channel, Read Tetbooks 4: Parents should learn to use Technology - there is no other way and no excuse as the future is already here, as a parent if you have ignored this because you think it is for millennials, prepare to start struggling with non-skilled work rather than an office work - knowing how to use excel and word is no longer the norm, you need to integrate social, data and security by default 2 Likes 1 Share |

The fact is that the virus is not going anytime soon so lockdown is here to stay. For education system, Nigerians (parents, school owner's, all stakeholders in education system) are allergic to using and incorporating education technology platforms into there school activities. So don't bother about what will happen to our nothing to write home about education system. Focus more on your sustenance till the corona virus wave is put under control. Use your children learning materials to teach them at home. |
