The car will be mostly for driving within the city to and from work but occasionally used for traveling out of the state.

Even in the USA people rarely use American cars for uber.. American SUV or pick up trucks in my own opinion are strong for naija road ,engine wise could be debatable...... Funny thing I have never bought or driver an America car especially for personal car... in life never say never ,but for now I have no interest...

as for me, civic is way ahead of Hyundai elantra and when it comes to travelling and using it within the city, you will enjoy it very well if its bought as Toks and also remember to check the VIN history also. I delivered one to client in akwa ibom few years ago and he hasn't called me up till date that the car is giving him headache though i am the one that sends engine oil and oil filter every 3 months.

I haven't used a Civic before, but currently I'm using an 09 Elantra.
The car is really nice, reliable and very fuel efficient. I've had no issues since I got it other than the normal routine maintenance. It's very Economical also, last month I used 3k fuel from Asaba to PH and still had enough left.
Mine is a manual transmission though.
Just do your due diligence before buying.

For personal use, elantra is very ok and strong engine ..but for uber use , I will go for civic over any car. Not just elantra

You're probably right. Mine is strictly for personal use but I've seen a lot of guys that use Elantra (07-10 model) for Uber, it's a strong car and I'm sure it will handle that very well.
