How have you carried Lagos so far?

Unless Nigeria breaks, other groups can become Lagos governor when they become interested in politics. What you did in Okota (destroying votes) when nobody was interested showed how you have started panicking smiley

By controlling the Entertainment, Manufacturing, Financial, Art and Culture, Politics and importantly the Traditional institutions grin grin

So what? Were does done by you from the hitherland? It became the capital of southern Nigeria, and the cpital of all Nigeria where trillions of Nigeria money was invested in seaports. airports, rail network, turnkey ring roads and bridges, federal estates, National financial houses which attracted multilateral institutions like banks, insurance and legal firms..embassies etc, etc. This is why you can never replicate Lagos with Ibadan nor Abeokuta. Try and get this in your head.

Was it the capital of South protectorate in 1899 when railway, tramway, banks, electricity, street lights, telephone, bridges (Carter bridge), Newspaper publishing houses, paved roads, seaport etc were already built in Lagos without SE, SS and Northern people and resources? grin

Who built Ikeja? grin

First, you are jealous of Ibadan because it ts the 4th economy in Nigeria while Anambra is the 16th economy with a very high external debt and paltry 19+ billion naira budget..

Secondly,like Azikiwe,like recent Igbos.

Exactly! And so very unfair and it goes to show the level of dishonesty in black people. Scotish people know what is for English or Irish and give credi. You will hear countries of the world say things like "this n that originate in the north, east, south" or mention the name of the region. Nigeria will never give credit to Yoruba for even all the names of food or anything, they just want to claim it. It's in Nigeria you will see people claiming words their grandfathers never heard of as their language.

There's no such thing as "Nigerian food" every food has the part of Nigeria it originated in and should be given credits. This is not being petty, this is holding them honest. The same dishonesty made them to remove history from schools so people won't know their history.

What Nigeria needs is respect for one another. So when you hear Nigerians say unity, they are looking to steal from Yoruba.
Goke7:

this is the koko but for some people dominating others and grabbing what's not theirs is their own unity

Let me make something abundantly clear .

This is 2020 and the Yoruba Nation would never be blackmailed for our political choices again .

For almost 40years, the Yorubas played opposition politics untill 1999 when the death of Abiola and NADECO ushered us into the mainstream of Nigerian politics.

Infact we were called perpetual cry babies of Nigerian politics because we were always in the opposition. ( The great Obafemi Awolowo who is arguably the greatest Yoruba man in the history of Nigeria opposed the Hausa/Fulani untill his demise ) .
From the 1959 elections till the botched 1993 general elections , my forebears were in perpetual opposition to the Fulani hegemony politically .
Infact , Ladoke Akintola , a former premier of the defunct Western region became an enemy of his people due to his purported alliance with the core North . Today , the only thing left of the name Ladoke Akintola is the state owned university in Ogbomoso .

https://www.nairaland.com/695854/neither-speakership-nor-chairmanship-just#8562123

Go through that link and see that even as recent as 2011, we were in the political wilderness lamenting ( for a lack of better word)

Did the Hausa/Fulani start being your enemies in 2019 ?? Because the last time I checked the whole of the North bar Nassarawa and Taraba soundly rejected a Christian Minority from the ND and instead voted overwhelmingly for the Fulani Muslim Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 general elections.

From 2007 till date ( over 12years ) , no Igbo man ( a majority tribe ) has been in the first 4 positions in this country while Northern minority Christians like Mark and Yakubu Dogara have been senate president and Speaker within that same period . ( I intentionally
Skipped Danjuma and Jack Gowon ).

Don't you think these situations were made possible as a result of the machinations of the Hausa/Fulani Muslim you always berate albeit hypocritically .

Ironically , many Northern minorities hold important positions in ACF and even parrot the born to rule agenda of the Hausa/Fulani more than the scions of Dan Fodio .
For example , Audu Ogbe, a Northern Christian was just elected to lead the Arewa consultative Forum .

Don't you think your so called disdain for the Hausa/Fulani is a bit hypocritical because what happens on the ground ( outside Nairaland) is totally different from the picture you always paint here ??

Perhaps the love-hate relationship between the Northern minorities and the Hausa/Fulani is too complicated for a bloody Southerner like me to understand grin cheesy

Nigeria is a jungle and it would take more than the cries of a hypocrite to set things right .

Conclusively, the great Yorubas are in no way scared of you and your folks as you are in no way a threat to our aspirations in every ramifications ( Politically , Educationally , Economically or Culturally ) .

Nice one.

Forget all the noise against Hausa-Fulani. All it takes to douse it is give Igbos their posiiton, VeePee. If you want to make it sweeter, relegate the Yorubas.

All the other idiots like Nowenuse trying to form alliance with Igbos will be thrown under the bus.

Na Naive Yorubas dey join the noise against Hausa-Fulani.

Hahaha, you see, we are not like you guys who are so tribal and deal on tribe daily. I am a Kwararafan descendant of Plateau stock. Isn't that enough identity for you?
Proud Yoruba? An identity given to Oyo people by Hausas grin. Tell me something else pls.

Majority of middlebelters are descendants of the Kwararafan kingdom & Nok. So your source ish is baseless. Besides, Ijebu people (2nd largest clan in Yoruba land said they came from Sudan) grin

https://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2010/06/25/ijebus-are-from-sudan-awujale-insists/amp/

And the Aworis said they are from Benin

https://dailypost.ng/2017/05/03/lagos-not-belong-yorubas-oba-akiolu/amp/.

You can only feed your shameless lies to the ignorant public!
Yoruba caricature identity was only answered by the Oyo people as at the time British came. The Egbas, Aworis, Ijebus, Igboonas, Okuns e.t.c never ever identified themselves as Yorubas in the past!

And thank God for the British who came to save your dying asses! If not, your people would have been decimated.

Fulanis had already taken over Kwara and not up till few decades ago, all your Igbomina & Ibolo Kings from Jebba down to Offa, Omu-aran & Asa were all coronated with bedsheets and given staff of office right from the Emir of Ilorin's palace.

Okun people on the other hand were real time biitches of the Nupes .... Nupes raided them whenever they felt like it and heavily depopulated and destroyed their lands. That is the reason why the British classified Okuns under the Northern protectorate, cos they were simply considered a conquered territory of the Nupe Emirates (Caliphate).
Till date, your people (Oworo under Okun) have the largest landarea in Lokoja LGA (Felele), yet there is a Hausa-Nupe Maigari of Lokoja ruling the town.
Shame nor dey catch una?

While Fulanis & Nupes were colonizing different parts of Yoruba land, Benins were colonizing Lagos and many parts of Ondo land.

You Yorubas shamelessly lost Igalas to us, same way you lost Itsekiris to the Benins.

Igalas speak a Yoroboid language. Inspite of the heavy Kwararafan corruption, the average Yoruba will understand Igala when it is spoken.
If not for my Kwararafan ancestors who came to colonize the Yoruba speaking Okpoto aboriginals of Igalaland and gave them the current Igala identity they take pride in, Igalas would have been classified by the British under the Yoruba nation.

All the lands Ebiras are staying in Kogi today was Yoruba speaking territory, cos not until the fall of Kwararafan empire, the Yoruba speaking Okpoto & Okun people were neighbors.
That is simply to tell you that the whole of present day Kogi was supposed to be Yoruba territory grin. But my Kwararafan ancestors took it from you people. Jukun Kings colonized the Yoruba speaking Okpotos, Ebira immigrants displaced the Okuns further Westwards, while Nupes were enslaving Okuns from the North grin

And today, in a once fluorishing Yoruba speaking territory (Kogi), Kwararafan descendants are now in charge cool

Itsekiris were a coastal Ijebu speaking people, but a group of fleeing Benin prince & royalties colonized all them into a kingdom subject to the Benin empire. Today, all Itsekiris pay homage to Benin and not Ife!

Can't you see that you come from a tribe who was saved by the British! Just go and thank your stars!
The foolish Yoruba leaders of Oyo empire, instead of them to go after bringing the Eastern Yoruba speaking realm like the Ijebus, Okuns & Okpotos (now Igalas) under their reign, they went after Non-Yoruba speaking Dahomey people.
See how same Dahomey sent menstruating and breastfeeding women warriors to defeat them! grin

The only fvcking ethnic group who had the liver to conquer and colonize a part of Kwararafan descendants were the Fulanis.

But you Yorubas on the other hand were gangbanged from time immemorial by Benins, Fulanis, Nupes & Kwararafans grin.
Who knows, Dahomians would have also joined the orgy if not for the intervention of Western colonialists...

Today you people beat your empty stinky chests claiming a large Yoruba nation which could only have been possible by the British.

With Kwara gone to the Fulanis, Lagos, Ondo & Itsekiris gone to the Benins and Kogi gone to the Kwararafans, tell me how only Oyo, Ogun & Osun would have been anything to reckon with as a large nation.

Read my lips, you people were saved by the Bell. Lucky bastards.

An idiiot like you is meeting me for the first time, that is why you don't know who I am!
Ask the likes of Legendhero who have known me for a long time, I am called NOWENUSE, the one-man army.
If you pass me with a friendly wave, I give you warmth and friendliness, but if you step on my tail, I give u destruction.

See, just as I told Legendhero, I do not like to play dirty, go and ask the likes of Deadlytruth who were making noise about his people in Akoko-Edo never being under Ebiras, when I gave him the embarrassment of his life, he deactivated his account and retired from Nairaland.

On another thread, I told some Yorubas that during the colonial era, Hausa language was the medium of senior education in Ilorin and that there was almost an equal number of Non-Yorubas (Hausa, fulanis, Nupes, Malians) in Ilorin than Yorubas and they started ranting nonsense as usual like u are doing here, when I brought out the colonial documents of Ilorin, they all fled in shame!

I dare you to provoke me further, I will not only post documents of how different ethnic nations ruled and were decimating Yoruba speakers, I will open an entirely new thread on that, and I will tag all the Igbo warriors on nairaland to come and feast on it.

See this idiiot! Even Ekiti people were devastated by Nupe-Fulani raids and hence they were even classified as Northern Nigerians under Nupe influence and u are here talking nonsense?

gomojam, redcrafton, diiet

Myobjective, Forgiveness & Legendhero,

I still have some respects for the 3 of you.
You guys should call Covidodo to order.

I have nothing to gain bringing up embarrassing colonial documents to ridicule Yorubas here, especially one by Fulani-Nupe conquests & raids, cos while your brother is being foolish, the Fulanis who opened this thread are happy that we are fighting ourselves.

You people should warn him let us not degenerate this thread any further and let him not provoke me to open an entirely new thread against Yorubas.

He was the first to start insulting me and my people. Ontop of that I apologized and agreed to turn a new leaf when another Yoruba person called me out, but he wants to take me down to the worst!

Thank you.

The myth that yorubaland cannot survive without the oil from the niger delta if left alone which irks me a lot because in my opinion i feel we yorubas will be the biggest beneficiaries of autonomy or at worse the break-up of the country.the realities on ground prove this.i owe no one apologies when i say i'm yoruba first before i'm Nigerian because i believe the unitary system has failed us as a people and is currently killing our potentials so i'm not really pro One nigeria per se even though i know a lot of my brothers are not with me on this. before the Collapse of the regional system of government in Nigeria. Yorubaland was seen as a model for every other part of the country and its successes till date is still unmatched. that was the golden era of the yorubas.the context of this write up though is yorubaland but i also recognized the status of Nigeria as a federal republic while also recognizing its imperfections hence the exclusion of parts of kogi state and kwara state. before i go further below is just some of the achievements of the old western region before the oil boom era

-The first TV station in Africa- WNTV ahead of many European countries including france
-The first university teaching hospital in West Africa-UCH
-The first sky scraper in Africa- Cocoa house ibadan
-The first stadium in West Africa -The liberty stadium ibadan which was relied upon by the whole country for more than three decades
-The first hotel in Nigeria – The premier hotel ibadan
-The first hospital in Nigeria- Sacred heart Abeokuta
-The first industrial estates- Oluyole an ilupeju Industrial estate
-First to implement free primary education and free health care programmes and implemented the first minimum-wage policy by a Nigerian government at any level
-Built the best network of roads which was emulated by Ahmadu Bello
-the first Newspaper Iwe irohin as far back as 1949
-During that period the western region government paid its workers higher wages than any other region in Nigeria and as such attracted a lot of foreigners from ghana,,benin republic and togo. mass migration form other parts of the country both from the eastern region and northern region

The bottom line is the southwest was far ahead of its time in africa during that period. All of these achieved entirely with the proceeds from cocoa, rubber and timber before the oil boom. we've done it before and we can do it again. i can confidently say all of these achievements will be child play if we're left to develop at our own pace

Finally i did an X-ray of every thing needed to have a stable economy and i was unable to find anything we lack

Below is just a summary of the resources and potentials of yorubaland if regional autonomy is granted or at worst if the country finally splits

OYO STATE
-Oyo state is hugely blessed with gemstones. it has the most gemstones after nassarawa and plateau states .sapphires in itesiwaju, iwajowa, ibarapa, atisbo, oluyole. aquamarines in oluyole, saki west, ona ara, spessarites and paraiba tourmalines in atisbo, egbeda, ibarapa.oluyole, saki and several locations of the state. all of these in huge quantities. these are some of the most valuable gemstones one can ever think of but unfortunately being mined by foreigners
-Oyo state is the largest producer of Tobacco in Nigeria
-its also the home of the Yoruba textile industry(aso oke fabrics). An extremely lucrative industry
-Ibadan is the largest city in sub-saharan Africa and its also the political capital of yoruba land. It also boasts of a huge population
-Oyo state is unarguably the agricultural centre of the yoruba region as it produces the most crops of all the yoruba states due to its close proximity to the north. Its also blessed with huge arable land

ONDO STATE

-Ondo state has large crude oil reserves and a lot of natural resources. It's the largest oil producing state after the South/s states.
-the state is blessed with huge natural gas reserves too and a little bit of limestone and coal
-It also boasts of the second largest bitumen deposits in the world. Bitumen also known as oil sands is the backbone of the Canadian economy and also countries like venezuela and madagascar
-Ondo state is the largest producer of cocoa in Nigeria and accounts for 60% of the country's cocoa which is our biggest non-oil export. Its also a potential chocolate manufacturing hub
-the state also has huge tourism potentials idanre hills, igbo olodumare, owo museum e.t.c
-The state is blessed with fisheries due to its close proximity to the sea
-The state is also showing signs of being the future medical capital of yorubaland as a result of its huge success in the health sector

OGUN STATE

-Ogun state is an industrialized state, with the largest concentration of industries in Nigeria. Ota, sagamu and agbara
-The largest and purest deposits of limestone in the country are found in ogun state.Extensive limestone deposits in the state can last for some five hundred years according to scientists and the largest Cement factory in West Africa is located in the state
-it home to the most enterprising people in africa (the ijebu people) these people have produced the most successful businessmen in Africa
-its also Home to the largest tie and dye market in the whole of Africa. the kaita adire/kampala market abeokuta
-The state is home to the most universities in Nigeria
-its also the largest kola nut collecting centre in Nigeria

OSUN STATE
-Osun state has over a billion dollars worth of gold deposits
-its also the largest producer of potato in Nigeria
-the state with its rich history is extremely blessed with tourism sites and festivals. the tourism potential of the state cannot be enumerated. Tourism is its strongest point.
-the state is also home to the adire tie and dye industry
-the state alongside lagos is the tech capital of Yoruba land. Obafemi Awolowo University
-the state is also hugely blessed with arable land

EKITI STATE
-The strongest point of ekiti state is its endownment of intellectuals. the state has produced some of the most reknowned professors in the history of the country and its the intellectual capital of yorubaland
-The state is endowed with numerous tourism sites. ikogosi springs, erinta waterfalls, ero water dam,Olosunta and Orole Hills of Ikere e.t.c

LAGOS STATE
i found it difficult to enumerate the potentials of the state due to its cosmopolitan nature. but i wouldn't mind my brothers here listing out its resources and potentials if regional autonomy is granted and its population of non-Yorubas reduces drastically

EKO ATLANTIC CITY
BADAGRY DOCKYARD
OLOKOLA FREE TRADE ZONE
LEKKI FREE TRADE ZONE
APAPA SEA PORT,TIN CAN ISLAND
LAGOS AIRPORT

-Yoruba land is hugely blessed with what i refer to as intellectual and administrative resources and its home to a lot of great, successful and intelligent people,it has never lacked progressive-minded and vissionary individuals from the awolowo, jakande days to the current ones like fashola and adesina

-Its also blessed with a huge youthful population

-With the rate at which everything is moving towards technology. yorubas are showing promises in this field as evident in OAU so we definitely won't lack in that sector

-A viable entertainment and fashion arts and cultural industry

No, it was first developed by the Yorubas before British came to add to it.

Lagos was established before SE, SS and Northern ever came to Lagos. Other regions like the SS & SE were also closer to the sea through Calabar their Capital yet lagged behind in infrastructural development compared to Lagos. That's the bigger picture.

If Lagos is no longer part of Nigeria, it will develop faster than any other cities in Africa because it will become the capital of SW. Period.

Exactly what I'd been telling some pals who are also in the habit of saying Lagos is what it is today because it enjoyed a good concentration of development from the FG and everyone. Lagos was a commercial center even when the portuguese discovered the Island. The history of the state showed it dealt in trade with these europeans long before the brits stepped in and had also been doing fine hitherto. It was even the reason why the brits later made it their chief abode because of all the already favourable factors in place.
These guys just need to study the history of Lagos to know how maginificient the state had been doing long before other tribes came on board.

Why not Ibadan....? How can somewhere from SE and SS who helped to build Lagos will miss out and somewhere like you and Tinubu from Osun will claim Lagos simply because the military added Lagos to SW. So Abuja would be the capital of the Gwaris? Lagos was protectorate of its own before the northern and southern Nigeria were merged. It has absolutely nothing to with the Yorubas, from Osun, Ekiti, Ondo and Oyo.

Even at that other regions would not mind if you take Lagos, but you have to compensate other regions with the investments from the FG. Other regions will also compensate you from the FG investments in their region as well.

You kidding, right? Everybody to have a stake in Lagos if the nation split? Like what the fvck? And what d'you mean by compesating other regions? What the heck for?
Just pray the nation split tomorrow and see your true worth. Yet, that would never stop Lagos from growing because she'd always been at the fore-front before all you guys stepped in. It wasn't like the Brits or the Portuguese before them met a wilderness when they came, rather they met a thriving commercial center. So even if we care to shift the capital elsewhere after 'One Nigeria' might've been no more, Lagos would continue to grow and glow. Infact, I don't see beyond the city keeping its pedigree as the commercial hub of Africa.

You don't seem to be getting it.

Lagos was what it is because of the massive investment of all Nigerians to be what it is. Figure presented showed that you form the hitherlands of Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo and Osun started migrating to Lagos in from 1931s.

You must compensate other regions from the investment of the collective FG if anything happens.

Also all banks, embassies, oil companies, multilateral institutions will locate elsewhere.

Your seaport and airports will reduce their imports as most importers who are not from SW will use other ports.

In 50 or 100 years it will become a shadow of its self.

If you think I am wrong that Lagos was, because of sustained investment of all from the 1800s, why is Cotonou which has similar environment like Lagos, not as developed as Lagos?

Why has Abuja which had 10 X more investment not overtaken Lagos

Lagos from DAY ONE was a net contributor giving more than it received
