As part of its contribution to curbing the spread of coronavirus in Nigeria, the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has designed and produced 2 types of ventilators, hand wash, and sanitizer that could be quickly reproduced to stem the shortage of the equipment in the country.

The design and production of the ventilators are coming a week after the Commandant NDA, Major General Jamil Sarham, convened a team of engineers, technologists, and technicians from the Mechatronics Department under Major Dr. Abubakar Suraj Imam to “rapidly develop affordable ventilator within the shortest possible time, using readily available components”. The team was also tasked to “develop the capacity of producing at least 30 ventilators in a month”. This is against the backdrop of the high cost of foreign-made ventilators and the present difficulties associated with procuring these.

Presenting their report to the Commandant, head of the team who is also Head of Department Mechatronics, Major Dr. Abubakar Surajo Imam, disclosed that his team was able to, within a week, design and produce 2 unique ventilators that could be quickly deployed to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. According to him, both ventilators, NDA Type 1 and NDA Type 2 could be reproduced cheaply and noted that currently, the Academy has the capacity of producing 30 ventilators in a month.

Speaking further, he disclosed that NDA Type 1 ventilator is a fully automated system with an interactive user-interface and 4 potentiometers for adjusting air and oxygen parameters. Similarly, the NDA Type 2 is also fully automated, operates with a 2 KVA self-sustaining onboard inverter equipped with a military-grade lithium battery. He noted that both prototypes have been subjected to a series of technical performance evaluation tests with impressive results.

It is worthy to know that apart from the production of the ventilators, the NDA also produced hand wash and sanitizers. This is to enhance hygiene and develop washing hand culture among the Academy community.

While responding to the various research efforts, the Commandant, Major General Jamil Sarham commended the effort of the team. He pledged to continue to support all research efforts in the Academy in order to proffer solutions to various problems affecting the country.

Looks like a welding machine.
As if they joined a Stainless Steel Water dispenser and oxy-acetylene tank. Very lackluster and fourth-rated.
If Atiku would allow this to be used on his son, then I am game. If Buhari would have allowed this to be used on Abba Kyari then, we are set for takeoff.
The funny thing is the logo engraved all over it. They should stop all this nonsense display of mediocrity and get ready for business. Things are getting harder than expected.
Buhari at this point should liaise with working manufacturers to get things going. Innoson can make better deals than this nonsense here. We are not in time for this stupidity. Give Innoson cash to produce the things that we need. Nigerians are dying. For how many years have people been displaying talents and you ignored? Give professionals the money to produce these machines. Stop this bigotry. Let the NAF work with Innoson and let us get things going.

No one should fall for this nonsense. Look properly, the soldiers are taking pictures of the machine which means that they have not seen it before AND THEY PRODUCED IT undecided undecided See how they are staring at what they produced.

Nigerian Army should show us their manufacturing factory, to begin with. We know that the Nigerian army is not capable of producing anything. They should focus on producing local guns that we buy from Russia and China. Local thieves manufacture their own guns. Ojukwu produced bombs and weapons during the civil war but Nigerian soldiers complain of a lack of guns to fight Boko Haram. Someone who can produce this machine can produce guns and bombs to fight Boko Haram. Why do we give China and Russia so much money for weapons if these guys can produce this?

The Nigerian army at this point should have been a prime example of invention and creativity. Nigerians have prolific assets all over the world engineering invention and working as unseen brains behinds major technological developments. Sadly, once you are in Nigeria you are coerced to conform to shallow reasoning and medieval modus operandi.
The motive for joining the military in Nigeria is not to serve the nation but to subjugate poor civilians and oppress lowly victims of the economic plummet in Nigeria.

Buhari is an old father of tribalism. He is the definition of a bigot. And, he has surrounded himself with people as wicked as himself. NAF should show us the bodies of Boko haram and save this petty thing for their children. We are wiser than baby tricks

When you see this kind of a thing in your sick bed before they put it in your nose you will get well by force, see as Nigerians carry get cure for corona virus, the fear of the gas cylinder ventilator is the beginning of wisdom.

If human doesn't encounter challenges they won't know they have talents to solve their problems. From locally made hand sanitizer to industrial face mask to ventilator.

They are talented young guys in Nigeria but we wait for White to come solve our problems. Now that they are battling With theirs, we suddenly know we have hidden talents. If it continues like this Nigeria will one day become giant of African.

This reminds me of Prof Ayodele Awojobi from Unilag that first invented Autonov 1 in 1970s which run in both the forward and backward directions, utilizing all four pre-existing gears in whichever direction. Used for easy retreat during war front.

Nigerians have been talented all along we are just caused with bad government.
