God2man2again: You did not read the article. The POS is used to confirm your PIN, they will then use your ATM card to withdraw money from your account 2 Likes |

yinchar: According to the article, they used the POS to verify the pin of the ATM card and then proceed to the bank to use the machine to withdraw the money, I don't think the transactions are done on the POS terminal. 2 Likes |

Simple things are difficult in this country when it happens to the poor or the common man. If it happe8to a prominent man today, the thieves will be caught in 48 hours. quote author=yinchar post=88718654]This is a no brainer issue that requires a simple fix. All funds paid or transferred to a POS linked account should be made unavailable or kept in lien for 3 working days, will only be cleared for withdrawal or transfer after 3 working days. That’s how’s it done in some advanced countries, even in some countries it 7 working days, some 1 month. I don’t know why simple things are so difficult in our country.[/quote] |

yinchar: they only confirm the pin with the POS and go to nearest atm to withdraw using the atm card and the pin. I think the POS is to confirm the pin. The easest thing to do is to find a way to block it once they leave.. But the bloody thing is that they may come back to ur house if they are unable to use it.. And they may be brutal when they return. It may take them few days to come back. 1 Like |

yinchar: This may only increase kidnapping, as the robbers will hold hostages till transaction clears. Its a dicey situation I must say. To some who asked how the robbers got PoS device, I remember how robbers steal cars on the highy for an operation. For all I understand organized crime now are Networked. From an informant in the banks to the devil's carrying out the operations. Imagine on sameday, a robbery gang steals a PoS Machine from a trader as well his ATM card and details, they split up into 3 groups, one holding the trader hostage to avoid raising alarm to bank and police. another group B somewhere in action dispossesing victim of their cash through PoS, and another somewhere at the ATM withdrawaling the stolen find. This way one can't track except video feeds from ATM cctv. But then trust your bank informant to take care of disrupting the recording. 1 Like 1 Share |

The KYC process is a failure if they cannot nab those POS owners in 48hrs . The banks have the POS details and it is a matter checking which POS where used for such transactions or ATM card PIN verification. |

They use the POS machine to confirm you are giving them the right pin. That's what this write up is saying and that's what I think happens. They then withdraw from the ATM machine. |

nairavsdollars:What's the difference between those bank, police and robbers themself? Do you think all those scammer that will tell you to pay into a particular account are not connected with those banks...try and pay a scammer at night, go to the bank the next morning in order to trace or log the complain about the transaction the next thing you will realize is that the account is been blocked and they will tell you its late. How much is banker's salary that some of them are living very large but they'll be lieing under the influence of loan loan loan. Nija I hail thee ooo 1 Like 1 Share |

yinchar: Nice suggestion, however, the money is not transferred into any account. The POS is used to CONFIRM if the pin to the ATM card is correct. They thereafter proceed to an ATM to withdraw the cash. Security measures should be put in place to track anywhere an ATM card is activated whether or not any purchase was made. In essence, once an ATM card pin is confirmed, the ATM card should leave digital signature that can be used to trace it. 2 Likes |

Its traceable, that's the reason why after the POS showed failed transaction yet you were debited you can take the slip to your bank, they will do the tracing via the ATM company after confirmation then your money will be returned ( dont u see it written in walls of Shoprite; incase of failed pos transaction, see your bank).. same goes for failed ATM withdrawals yet you were debited.. The only issue here is that Nigerian banks, ATM companies (like interswitch etc) and the Police see it as a waste of time and resources. If a big man like politician or dangote etc ATM go missing and someone is doing withdrawals from the account via POS, I can tell u that the authorities will fish out that criminal in less than 10days.. |
