Don't lend him money, dash him (Note: Give the amount you know you can forfeit)
But for you to post about this, relationship wise, I'm more worried for him, than for you.

First of all, hope you're parents and siblings are not in need themselves. Charity begins at home they say
Next, I think you have created an impression to him that you are financially rich enough to borrow and even dash him. So, he seeks you as first choice when he has brothers or friends. Don't get me wrong, its not bad but it's not good either.
I would advise you correct that impression gradually. As for the 40k he needs now, it's not compulsory u give him the full money. You can give him 30.

Trayceey: Fellow nairalanders,
I have a pressing issue on ground and I need your contribution. My boyfriend has been working for about 5 years now. We've been dating for a while now and he has been so nice and caring. The best ever.
In my past experience in relationships, I have been quite generous but the guys turned out to be ingrates so I vowed never to give any boy my penny again.
When I met my man, he melted my hardened heart with the love he showered on me. On one occasion, I have borrowed him money and he paid me back. Now he's asking me to borrow him another money. Because of this lockdown, he has gone so broke and he opened up to me. Initially, I did not believe him but when I noticed he has run out of food stuffs and the provisions he normally stock his house with, I believed him. I have more than enough money. The money he's asking for is like chicken change to me. But I don't want him to get used to borrowing from me and I have vowed never to give a guy my money again except if he's my husband.
Please I need advice. Fellow ladies like me, what do you think? Should I borrow him? As a fellow woman like you, I will advise you give him pls, these are my reasons He has been a darling from the day you have been dating He loves you and his love has kept you guys going This lockdown has reduced some men to begging and the decent ones doesn't even like it but they don't have options Am glad you have more than enough to give, pls give him any amount you don't hope to collect back, just because of this pandemic period, that is your own contribution If he is hard working and not the gold digger type or someone that expects you to be spending for him Then he is a good person to be with Once more give him but don't tell him it's a dash, whenever he returns it to you, tell him to keep it yet and don't talk about it again When next he ask from you, of which I hope he doesn't, tell him to use that reserve 3 Likes 1 Share |

But the moment she brought her relationship affair here on social media, she should take any response that comes her way. As for me being a hypocrite, no need to argue this. You don't know me. But be rest assured that if my babe ask me for money because she has no foodstuff (because her source of income has been stopped due to the lockdown), I will give her the amount without coming to ask first on Nairaland. Lend? You will be making the gravest mistake of your life. Go and marry and stop sleeping around in the name of boyfriend/girlfriend relationship. Fornication is a deadly sin. Repent now, Jesus Christ loves you.
As for the money, in case you don't know how to invest, kindly lend me the money with 5% interest per annum. You won't believe how much you will made from the money without extra sweat. Think about it. God bless you 1 Like |

If I was dating you, I would dump you. You're not doing him a favor giving him money. It's what expected of you.
You should consider it a privilege for you to help him out when he's down. You don't need to come here to ask. He's ticked all the right boxes already so what do you want?
My senior brother told me he was a pauper when he married his Turkish wife. He said Nigerian girls were always sizing him. They are now comfortable.
My younger brother as well. They are okay now, living in a middle class part of London.
Many Nigerian guys have a fetish for white girls and it's this kind of behavior that causes it. They don't see a relationship as one sided where the man is the one always dropping money. They don't even ask for money!
Obviously if you're married and things are tough for him, your assistance to him will be limited. You're both one my friend. If he's down, you're down and vice versa. Investing in your marriage and husband is the best investment you can ever make. Lol. Why so pained? |

Re: Should I Lend My Boyfriend Money? by churchee: 4:35pm On Apr 22, 2020 |
I want to understand, so your boyfriend, the one you showered all those narratives of good quality on asked you to lend him money. You doubted him, because you thought he was lying, because you don't want him to be dependent or comfortable asking you for money, until you went to his house and confirmed that his food stuffs are finished or reduced to bearable minimum. Yet you did not give him, you came instead to Nairaland to ask strangers who are not part of the relationship to encourage you to give first, to be aware that you wish to help your boyfriend but wish not, to decide for or against what you think of your disfavoured boyfriend in a condition that perhaps caught him unawares. I pity the young man because he would fight me if I tell him that you are not fit to be his life partner, he will believe nobody if he was told that you are almost wicked. I have nothing for you but may I nor my brothers nor my enemies never find your type as life partner. Tueh! |
