Hi nairalanders, I bought my BMW 525i on this forum but I haven't been enjoying that car as I expected. Issue is 1. Battery drains and car wouldn't start if left for 24hrs of recent. Now sef I have to drive it in a day to get it started next day. Diagnostic scan picked 4 fault DME...Head not coded correctly appear on dashboard. 2. Full lights doesn't on per say...only one bulb on and fog lights. Mechanics here in Ibadan have proven to be incompetent. Even considering of sell the car sef cuz I hate stress. Please help. I could share the diagnostic reports with you if you don't mind. Any assistance on resolving issue, in Ibadan? |

decatalyst:Good Morning, did you change the battery recently? Batteries have to be coded to the car once replaced or removed. However, locate a module in the spare tyre compartment, plugged somewhere beneath the spare tyre (spare tyre needs to be removed to access). Unplug it and check for corrosion or any kind of water damage. |

yungboss: Also happens when the CD player unit is changed or iDrive screen and not reprogrammed. Won't affect functionality though. |

decatalyst: is your 525 an e60 or e39? its hard to tell whats causing your battery drain issue without diagnosing the car. it could be something as simple as you or previous owner changed the battery and didnt register the new one, the battery itself is old and needs replacement or something a little more complex like one or more modules are not going to sleep. what error codes were present when you scanned? try to look for or get someone with a scanner that reads BMW codes not generic obd2 scanners. the cause of your issue might have triggered a code, you just need the right scanner to read it. |

yungboss: The head unit error displayed on the iDrive screen happens when the CD player unit has been replaced in the past and not reprogrammed after replacement or even if the screen has been replaced without reprogramming. 1 Like 1 Share |

yungboss: Yes, I changed the battery. The previous battery just suddenly started draining. I have change the alternator after battery change. Still issue persist. No corrosion on the battery head either. Obviously the car will have to get to Lagos...as the guys in Ibadan no really sabi. |

yungboss: Thanks for your response. I have however tried to check for the module even as seen on YouTube, I can't find it there o. Maybe they already disabled it. Though tyre pressure works fine whenever pressure is low. |

Re: BMW Owners' Forum by Nobody: 7:08pm On May 04, 2020 |
omoajiri:have you taken care of this? did your accessory belt shred before your crank seal started leaking? there might be an underlying issue that needs to be addressed first. if you dont take care of it and you put a new seal in, it will happen again and can potentially DESTROY your engine. when the belt on these cars shred some part of the shredded belt gets stuck behind the crank pulley and will eventually destroy the seal if you continue driving. its a common problem on N engines N51,N52,N54....) 1 Share

Re: BMW Owners' Forum by omoajiri(m): 7:48pm On May 04, 2020 |
Thanks so much for the insightful response. The car's serpentine belt shredded twice within a spate of 6 weeks, the whole pulley system was checked and no error was detected. We summarily concluded that it was due to the inferior quality of the replacement belts as the one that came with the car lasted over a year and the replacement only lasted a couple of weeks. It was after replacement at the third time that the belt slipped off the pulley while running. A careful inspection revealed oil was present on the belt and pulleys and the fault was traced to the crankshaft seal. I have placed order for a new one (not Tokunbo) and I hope to get it later in the week. I will update the house of further development. HARDEYEBER: |
Re: BMW Owners' Forum by Nobody: 8:20pm On May 04, 2020 |
omoajiri:Ok good, i hope everything works out. where did you order your seal from? i should add that most times i have seen this kind of thing happen or read about it. it was almost always the oil filter housing gasket. its not easy to spot oil leaks from it so you might want to double check that crazy gasket. its very notorious for leaks and shredding belts. 1 Like |
