rationalhuman: The designers may have added the spine so as to create more room for internal fuel (and compensate for the space taken by the second seat). In addition, and perhaps most significantly (both for the JF-17B and the newer single-seat JF-17 Block-III), the JF-17B also introduced a new three-axis fly-by-wire flight control system to the Thunder.[3] The JF-17B’s nose is also technically capable of carrying an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, though the PAF opted to retain the pulse-Doppler KLJ-7 for its own fleet.[4] https://quwa.org/2020/01/19/why-is-the-pakistan-air-force-procuring-26-jf-17bs-2/ 1 Like |

The Military says it will accept the offer of the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau to surrender. It said that if Shekau follows the laid down procedures for surrendering during conflict or war, the military will profile him according to international standard. The Coordinator of the Directorate of Defence Media Operations (DDMO), Major General John Enenche, disclosed this on Friday during an interview on Channels TV “Shekau’s recently released videos are subjected to forensic analysis. There are rumours that they are ready to surrender. If the insurgents truly want to surrender, there is a procedure to do that. If he (Shekau) surrenders through the procedure, we will accept it,” he said It would be recalled that the Military authorities recently said that with the grand offensive mounted by the Armed Forces of Nigeria against Boko Haram and the Islamic State for West African Province (ISWAP), the body language of Shekau, is that of surrender. Meanwhile the military through the Air Task Force of Operation LAFIYA DOLE, said it destroyed compounds housing Boko Haram terrorists’ leaders at Bulawa in Sambisa Forest, Borno State. In a statement signed by Major General Enenche, the air strikes were executed on 21 April based on credible human intelligence reports as well as Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions that led to the identification of the target compounds within the settlement. He said fighter jets dispatched by the Air Task Force to take out the compounds accurately hit the target area leading to the destruction of some of the structures as well as the neutralization of some of the terrorists occupying the compounds. He noted that Boko Haram fighters, who attempted to reposition to engage the attacking aircraft, were mopped-up in follow-on attacks by the jets. In another report, Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE deployed at Katsina Ala, Benue state and those of Sector 4 drawn from parts of Taraba state carried out a special raid operation on the 22nd April, on a suspected militia camp located at Anku Mbagen in Atera-Jange Torov Council Ward of Ukum LGA of Benue state. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/if-boko-haram-leader-shekau-surrenders-we-will-accept-it-military.html |

General question. I have posted quite recently two different write ups, somewhat lengthy and as is my practice substantiated with either a government release and or other media reference point. Sometimes in response to the more boisterous and opinionated contributors we have here. However, I have noticed two of those posts have now gone missing, my question is this a regular occurrence and therefore quite normal on this particular segment of nairaland To date i have not experienced that before. To quote Ian Fleming; Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action. Your responses will help to understand this very new observation, thank you. 1 Like |

EXCLUSIVE: Boko Haram Terrorists Ambush Convoy Of Ex-Borno Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, Kill Three Policemen, Two Others Boko Haram fighters have opened fire on the convoy carrying the family of a former governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff. Security sources told SaharaReporters that the insurgents attacked the convoy while traveling from Abuja to Maiduguri to attend the three-day prayer of Sheriff’s late father, Alhaji Galadima Modu, who died following a fire outbreak at his residence in Maiduguri on Thursday. It was gathered that five persons including three policemen were killed during the attack that took place on Friday. “Boko Haram launched an attack on the convoy carrying the family of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, former governor of Borno State, from Abuja to Maiduguri to attend the burial of his late father. “Three policemen, a driver and one member of his family were killed and several others were injured in the attack. “The terrorists also went away with the riffles of the dead officers and some cars in the convoy,” one security source said. SaharaReporters gathered that two of the policemen killed are Corporal Mustapha Inusa and Corporal Abubakar Idris. The attack comes days after the Nigerian Defence Headquarters disclosed that Abubakar Shekau, leader of the Boko Haram sect, may soon surrender. DHQ had stated that the body language of Shekau after so much military offensive on the insurgents lately showed that he would soon “throw in the towel”. Sheriff has been accused in some quarters of being responsible for the emergence of Boko Haram in Borno State before spilling to other parts of the North where their violent campaign has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions. http://saharareporters.com/2020/04/25/exclusive-boko-haram-terrorists-ambush-convoy-ex-borno-governor-ali-modu-sheriff-kill?fbclid=IwAR1DkWxBSdYmLzurBLwrv8xUdPkcBDWJkgZonJxCJmNlZdlUOq_BU689kVA |

kabe1: The term combat proven is very fluid in the extreme without a comparison unit of measurement, so in the context of the JF-17 what do you mean by combat proven. For instance, we can say unequivocally that the F22, 35 , Typhoon, and many more are battle tested and therefore battle proven in multiple theaters and operations across the world in many challenging situations also over many years. So what makes JF-17 a Mig 21 Hybrid as many have argued to have become "combat proven" I am speaking with undeniable bias, if Pakistan was a car manufacturer I would not be taken away or inspired by the Manufacturers sales pitch. And i would rather have a 3/4 year old proven, tested and confirmed quality vehicle from Germany or Japan than a brand new one from Pakistan no matter how cheap. As people say , you get what pay for , the Chinese/ Pakistan JF-17 is cheap for a reason, as we say in Warri "Cheap article deh spoil belle" We have not learned our lesson the old and even second hand acquired Alpha jets have proven as many also argue to be much more resilient and reliable than the F-7 (Mig 21) we bought from China for $250 million. 2 Likes |

rka2: just that they were stored out in the open without any protection from the elements and by the time the Indians inspected them, they were not fit for purpose. Your entire write up was set up to underpin the proposition that these 16 Sepecat Jaguars were essentially rust buckets and not worth a carrot, that was the substance of your position. My position was that two Bae Systems and the Indian Hindustan were prepared to pay about what we paid to procure them so you are talking at least that is going to go into near or above $65 million speculatively. That means there was considerable life left in the air frames. Without being racially prejudiced stingy Indian man will not pay $10 million for scrap metal. Back to the other claim , i simply do not use vitriolic diction in the first instance and you called me a LIAR when i said the complete contract package cost for the A29's was $600 million. I presented a USA government published and gazetted document to back up my claim. Or is the USA govt. telling lies . Nonetheless, its not particularly relevant now. I find it unforgivable that we let those Jags rot, had a chance to refurbish but did not , then we didnt sell them when there was clear offers to purchase, WHY, WHY, which way Nigeria. So effectively we lost maybe $100 million in possible revenue , that is UNFORGIVABLE. 4 Likes 1 Share |

jpphilips: I responded to this quite comprehensively days ago, but it seems to have got lost in cyberspace. Using comparative cost analysis both capital and recurrent to show the A29 not to be long term viable for the NAF, and the limited use of the A29 that will play out in the long term over the recurrent cost barriers. 1 Like |

komekn: The JF-17 is not a MIG-21 hybrid. Shape, aerodynamic design, power pack and avionics are different. The JF-17 has a confirmed Air-to-Air Kill, the JF-17 was part of a strike package that bombed India in operation swift resort. The JF-17 carried out numerous CAP missions after operation swift resort. The JF-17 has carried out multiple CAS and bombing missions against the Pakistani Taliban and other terrorist groups in Pakistan. On the origin of the JF-17, it is a joint project between Pakistan and the CATIC group in China. China owns all the IP certificates, and is in fact the OEM of the JF-17. On the back of the Chinese aviation industry, the JF-17 which shares a lot of components from the J-10 has considerable support. It is not a Pakistani built plane. The F-7 was a stop gap plane, it was never intended to replace the MIG-21. The JF-17 fulfils NAF capability for a modern light multi-role combat aircraft. The JF-17 can be equipped with Aselpod advanced targeting pod, providing NAF with high performance electro-optical reconnaissance, surveillance and targeting system. The JF-17 can also be equipped with Indra ECM pod. Pl-15 advanced BVRAAM missiles and High Precision air to ground bombs, dumb bombs & similar JDAM bombs. 3 Likes 1 Share
