Actually, the reason why the US does not want to invade NK is

1.China. China does not want a unified Korea on its borders...not now, not tomorrow. A unifed korea potentially means US troops on the Tumen. Also, a unifed Korea might stir up separatist ambitions among the Koreans in the North East of China....

2.I doubt that the minerals in NK would be of great help to the US , not when the US has other sources of minerals.

3.Nukes are very important. A nuclear armed NK..in particular one that has mastered putting a nuke on top of a missile.. means a nuclear arms race involving SK, Japan and China, and guess how many other Asian nations. Scary.

One question which people usually fail to ask is, what exactly is the United State's business in anything that happens in a country thousand of miles away?
What did North Korea ever do to them?

1.NK is a left over of the Cold War.

2.The US is on the Korean pennisula for two reasons 1) to protect South Korea...2) as a counterwieght to China.

3.NK as a country has always been primed for war with SK...considering that they invaded SK in 1950..sparking the Korean war...which brought in the US in the first place

Only one country in the entire world has ever made use of a bomb almost as powerful as a nuclear weapon - the hydrogen bomb, and that is the United States...yet they are still the ones busy policing other countries by telling them they can't have a nuclear programme.

2.The truth is, Hiroshima and Nagasaki led eventually to an international consensus on restricting the use of nuclear energy for weapons purposes. Inasmuch as it is annoying that the US is busy controlling other countries' nuclear ambitions, the alternative is everyone owning a nuclear bomb. The consequences are terrifying.

If NK has a nuclear programe, Japan is going to develop its own nuclear program, and they are prepared to even amend their US given constitution to do so. That could provoke an Asian nuclear arms race. Not good for world peace.

Whatever the case may be, Chairman Kim's death will hardly change anything.
The North Koreans are a very proud people and will not so easily become a puppet of the West.
