The curve can't be flatten (hard truth to swallow)- so many indices plays against it. Data which is critical is truly missing.

Testing is in question, health care is non existent.

Na to manage the situation while seeing people turn to statistics. (Hard truth to accept)

Palliatives can not be assured cuz it will be based on the most hit age bracket. Or it can not be sustained because for how long shall palliatives run.

Continual lockdown - you have to fight or mitigate between where the next uprising will come from, what will increase the stress on d non-existing health-care (if na hunger or the virus). Production and business economics failing, paying for infrastructure and it is not been productive.

Relaxed lockdown people go about with the covid19 preventive protocols, more educative awareness, enlightenment and enforcing strict rules within d population.

Locked or relaxed- numbers will increase

How can social distancing be enforced in Lawanson market, Yaba, Idumota, Balogun or the likes?

How can we observe Social distancing in Danfos or motorbikes?

Even banks will first jampack people outside before they allow them to go in, in twos?

Let them just remove it. Anyhow it eventually ends up is our fate. But saying enlightenment and enforcement? We both know that's not happen

Just read through the comments of supposed "enlightened" Nigerians with the internet. Then imagine how an uneducated Nigerian would behave

With the rampaging pandemic not slowing down and many folks suffering under the pressure of hunger, there is a great debate on whether the lockdown should be lifted.

Option 1:
Maintain the lockdown, provide palliatives and increase testing and medical response.

Option 2:
Lift lockdown within the country, block international flights, enforce face masks, hand washing, use of hand sanitisers, etc. And let us battle it head long till there is a cure.

Which part of the debate are you?

I prefer option 2

Option 2 can never work in a country like Nigeria. Citizens, especially Lagosians have not complied with the mandatory lockdown, how much more voluntary lockdown. Our case will be worst than USA if option 2 is applied. A lot of Nigerian still don't believe there is COVID-19, they feel govt is lying hence they're asking for names, pictures and videos of the patients. These are the types that will infect thousands due to their careless living out of freedom.

Mandatory lockdown and complete enforcement by the military (not the Police) at least 2 more weeks will flatten the curve.

Palliatives? Govt can not provide palliatives for everybody. Where is the fund? We have to stop deceiving ourselves. We are in a war situation. Who will survive will survive. Factly, humans will always adjust and adapt for survival.

wow..thats nice..

then when the poor are unable to feed... get ready for massive unrest in the state...

The reason why the "oyinbo" countries effected lockdown/stay home policies and talk about "flattening the curve" is because they are massively testing. We are not!

America has a population of 330m and has tested over 5m people. South Africa with its 58m population has done 152,390 tests. Bringing it closer home Ghana (30m population), has done 88,188 tests. Nigeria with 200m population has done only a paltry 10,061 tests. This is scandalous!

Lagos state projects a worse case scenario of 39,000 cases and best case scenario of 13,000 cases with the lockdown & social distancing. At the current rate of testing, which month will Nigeria (not Lagos state o) test enough people to detect 13,000 cases?

The NCDC has revealed 26% of covid-19 cases are from unknown sources which implies there is already transmission at the community level.

Also, results from antibody tests indicates that Covid-19 cases are 28 - 55 times higher than confirmed cases which means the infection is more widespread, many people recovered without even knowing they were infected and it's less deadly than initially thought.

Given all these, what then is the essence of the lockdown/stay@home? Can NCDC ramp up it's testing capacity to detect majority of cases to isolate and treat? The answer is a big NO.

We cannot copy and paste oyinbo policy and expect to get the same result. Our situation and circumstances are different.....

We need to lift the lockdown/stay home restrictions immediately and adopt a new strategy....

Let people boost their immune systems and up personal hygiene. The authorites should enforce the use of face masks and disinfect open markets and public spaces.... and let natural selection take it's due course.

The age demograpy of our population is very advantageous for us to beat covid-19 with minimal losses.

I know you to be more objective than this, did you failed to touch on the number of tests that has been carried out since the lockdown started? If the Government can only do a little over 10,000 tests after 4 weeks of lockdown with no sustainable palliatives going round the whole country, what do you say to that?

The main objective of lockdown is to ramp up the numbers of tests being conducted but that is not the case here. We have many asymptotic people who have been denied testing

The 36 states should lockdown. No movement and security operatives should be punished for receiving bribe in exchange for the passage of human or vehicular movement.
Markets should only open ones a week for the aforementioned lockdown duration and social distancing should be enforced on those market days.
The government should continue to give palliatives to the poorest of the poorest in the society as currently been done.
Those that have been paying taxes but need government's cash assistance can be helped with a token of Max N25,000 while zero taxpayers that desire to be paid palliatives should be made aware that a percentage would be deducted from their future earnings as tax using the same BVN they desire to be paid with.

There is no curve to flatten! Coronavirus has been in Nigeria since January. We currently have as many as 100,000 cases. Yet only 35 deaths!!

And we are in no war situation. Even during the Biafra war, Nigerians were balling and many were not even aware that there was an ongoing war.

Coronavirus is NOT for Africa! Had we been hard hit like US, UK and co, we would all have been dead by now... embarassed

Like I said, Nigerians flouted and are still flouting it

If the Government removes the lockdown, nothing spoil

But if(God forbid) bodies begin to litter everywhere, obviously a lockdown will be slammed on us. And by then, nobody will care about the death of the economy

Body litter everywhere from where to where, is it the COVID 19 that will make body Litter everywhere?

There's no doubt this disease is real, but the consequences of the lock down is higher than what the disease can cause. I have noticed a lot of people that can afford to stock their houses for months saying, it should continue, but not considering those that can't get a period of 3 days meal at a go. To say the least. They use the death word to scare people. Whereas they are truly the ones scared and don't care if other rot out of hunger or hoodlums finish some others while they continue in their safe haven.

For those who says, Nigeria is not a country. Nigeria is a blessed country but with very bad leaders with selfish interest that has crumbled the economy from time immemorial. We will survive this, Lockdown is not the best option for this in Nigeria... Stop the comparison thing and saying Nation with better medical system suffers, then is it Nigeria that will survive? Nigeria will survive without the total lockdown. Laslas, the Covid-19 would be another Malaria that we use herbs to treat.

Have you noticed that when we were still practising social distancing the spread wasn't so bad, I can tell from my opinion and analysis that that is because a typical Nigeria doesn't like death as you think. So when everybody was stepping out for their daily activities they were so cautious of the disease so they take all the necessary precautions while hustling. Including constant washing of hands which is termed as the most effective precautionary measure. But when the total lockdown started people were so reluctant to measures, they rate of hands washing and sanitizing reduces, mask wearing reduces, we feel since we are not going that far, we are all in a safe space so don't give that high commitements to precautions like when we step out. Thereby exposing ourselves more. Lockdown is like a breeding ground for the disease. A person with it will affect the whole house. The person from that house that steps out to buy something from the Newby shop or pharmacy affects everybody around and things around, and so the virus spreads, because their instincts feels they are still in their safe zones.

Allow people go out, to make ends meet, to hustle and get food. they will be more careful, and it's better we face this thing loggerhead than been on a lockdown for how long? How many affected, how many discharged and how death? Then compare to other ailments that has been there like Malaria, cancers, common cold, HIV and others.

The way forward to me is not this total lockdown, because no matter how you want to practise it, it won't suffice because the hunger in town would trigger more serious cases than the virus.

I don't see that happening ... the first period of lockdown didnt increase the numbers

The second period of lockdown numbers increased ...

Staying at home brings the virus closer than ever.. cuz truth to be told, we all go to the market, supermarkets, medicine stores to get our essentials... it can be gotten from there and brought in to immediate surroundings

Stay at home minimise the chances of contacting it. Maybe I ll need to remind you how crowded Oshodi, Yaba, Mushin, Iyana Ipaja and other public places are. Imagine if only one Covid-19 patient should visit any public place, how many will contact it and in turn take it home and also reinfects others. Please let not allow our anticipated plans or endeavours to becloud our reasoning.

This is my submission

The lockdown should be lifted for people that are not scared of the virus to go about their normal activities.

Those that want to continue with the lockdown can remain indoors at their own will to prevent themselves from contacting the virus.

With this approach. People that go about won't be much and automatically will improve social distance. As some people will be locking down at will.

As it stands now. This lockdown is not really yielding results. It may be working for other countries. But It's not working for us as Nigerians wey we be.

So I think the lockdown should be lifted only for those ready to go out. While the others remain at home.
Finally everybody is happy
