wonuks: May I ask if you are a parent? If so how many kids do you have? Do you know a lot of parents whose children are in private schools will be cut from funds this period? For such people, how do you propose they pay the children's school bills? Have you considered the effect it will have on their finances at home? At least in terms of data and power? Have you also considered that this mode of teaching will also require supervision from parents who have to look for money? Have you considered the effect it will have on the entire educational system within the state, especially for govt schools, where the parents of kids who attend barely survive? In life, we must learn to think not only of ourselves but the impact of our actions on the lives of people around us. 1 Like |

This statement from Government is not necessary. I understand that some, not all, are not interested in the students' learning but just to 'rake' in money. I believe that with internet, learning need not be restricted in anyway. But, I am curious, what happens to students who didn't participate (for whatever reason, maybe they were robbed and devices stolen) in online classes when lockdown is over? Will what has been taught be redone or it is gone for good? |

we as a ppl are just selfish in this country, most parents are earning nothing during this times yet private school owners want to exploit them by putting more pressure on them to spend on non essentials. Only God sabi who we offend but seriously the one I am most concerned as a parent are kids having unlimited access to the internet because they are always at home and bored. This can actually expose them to pornography and other vices on the net cos as they say, an idle hand is the devil's workshop. |

Farki: Any school that wants to proactively engage their students is free to do so. Don't just coin it 'third term' and expect the students to pay. The school could ask for a little fee for subjects per hour. E.g. N1,500/hr for a subject and add it to their 3rd term bill. 1 Like |

Kudos to Lagos state govt. The only working govt in Nigeria. Over here in Abuja, Regent School organised such teaching via Skype. And already they've sent out secular instructing the parents to pay full term's school fees even though the parents get to do the bulk of the work. I just don't get how callous some of these school owners can be. At a time when nobody is working, and everyone is supporting their less privileged ones the best way they can, these idiots want hundred thousands paid into their accounts for doing nothing. I think the federal govt should follow suit and ban any school from doing such because it will disrupt the academic calendar |
Re: Lagos Bars Private Schools From Online Teaching by SmartyPants(m): 1:05pm On Apr 27, 2020 |
geezynoni: Yes, and the government says they should stop that. But schools are free to continue to offer lessons online if they wish, outside of the academic year structure. That is, by way of revisions and so. |

OceanEye:And people like you will claim that the north is holding down the south educationally, because of quota system. Most schools in the US continued teaching their students online. My friend who is a lecturer in a US university tells me he has been teaching his students online from home, and Lagos a supposedly progressive state is banning online teaching. This coronavirus crisis should have been a test run for online education and teaching, which is the future of education. Many people get their degree without leaving their homes, Open university was inaugurated by Obasanjo over a decade ago. 1 Like |

Private school owners always have selfish interest. They are only concern on getting money. Online teaching cannot work in Nigeria for now. An average African will always abuse the little freedom given to him/her. Give those students a browsing fone with data, u will b surprised what majority of them will use it for. |
