I ordered for this Gionee s10 Lite on jumia platform. This phone was shipped from abroad after 21days and a quick check on all the functions, everything checked.

Now the issue with this particular phone is that it keeps deducting my credit. Once I recharge, I'll immediately receive a message alert that I've sent a message. These messages are worth #50 from my main credit balance. It goes on like this in quick sessions till my credit is finished. Even when my balance is #20, the phone would send a #20 message. It happens on all the lines I've inserted in the phone.

I've called various customer care lines and they seem not to know what's up with the phone, that it's my phone and not from their end. I on the other hand, have once done a Factory reset on the phone, deleted all the apps it came with, still no headway.

Phone gurus in the house, what could be the problem

Thats an issue with a lot of gionee phones, there is a command called "salestrack" and "usagestatistics" or something like that has been programmed into the phone' software, what it does is automatically send the phones usage history to some Chinese phone number(you'll notice the amount deducted per message is high).

The only way to disable it is to root your phone and modify or delete the "salestrack" and "usagestatistics" command in the system "build.prop" file. If you have no idea what "rooting" or "build.prop" means, this method isn't for you..

Another thing you can do if you can't root your phone is to find a pc then install an app called "Debloater" on the pc, you can get it on Google, what the app basically does is allow you to disable some system apps that you can't normally disable in app settings, it's pretty easy to set up, just install the pc app(debloater), enable developer options in your phone settings by going to "settings>>about>>build number", tap on build number seven times to enable developer options, then open developer options and enable "usb debugging", it will allow the pc app(debloater) to recognize your phone, then plug your phone to the pc via usb cable, then click "read packages" in the debloater app, if done correctly, it will list every system app on your phone, you can then scroll to the "salestrack" app and disable it.. As opposed to what you might think, this option is actually easy. grin

If you are a total noob and couldn't do any of the above, there is another option..

Just go to application settings and clear data for your messaging app(note: this will delete every message stored on your phone), this is just to set your text messages settings to default, so whenever you want to send a text message do not tick "remember my choice", so, this way whenever you or anything(e.g gionee salestrack) want to send a message on your phone it will ask for your permission first, instead of sending it automatically, you can then always press cancel. That all.

But seriously that's a big f*ck up on Gionee's part.

Please, could you tell me the good and bad effects of rooting or modifying a phone's OS. I got a similar advise, but I don't really understand what it entails.

Thank you!

rooting basically allows you to modify your phone core apps and programms that you wouldn't normally be able to do like changing IMEI, changing boot logo, deleting system apps.

You can end up crashing your phones os if not rooted properly. so if you'll go with the rooting option, i suggest you have someone with experience on it(root)do it for you.

You should try the debloater option if you have a pc(its safer), or the text msg default reset.

I actually saw one of those files you talked about. It's just there and unable to disable, uninstall or force to stop as it's linked to several of my core apps and system os. Removing it could stall my phone. That was the prompt I got.

As for the sms stuff, I did it and no way. I'll look for a pro in phone rooting by tomorrow.

exactly the same issue I have with the phone. I get skeptical of recharging on it. Except I'm ready to use the airtime for call or data.
Please, another issue I'm facing is low network connection. In a place where others are enjoying strong network connection, mine will be lagging and frustrating.
Please gurus, is there a way out please.

Just download kingo root on a laptop and if it supports your device it would do all work for you easily.
Enable use debugging on your phone too

Imported phones and their problems. What I need you to do is this. Since it is rthe sales track app that is sending the messages. Go to its settings and clear all of its permisions. Clear its cache and disable it if possible or you can force stop it. The app should be inactive by then. Hide it from the app drawer and never open it again. If all that is not possible then perform a factory reset of the phone. When the phone starts again it will not be having such issues because there is a good chance that the app sending those messages has been deactivated. As lond as you never open the app you will be fine.
Re: What Do I Do? Any Solution Please. by Brardana: 1:06pm On Apr 28, 2020
Here is a quick solution for you. It is the messages app that comes with the phone that is sending the messages automatically. It is therefore that messages app that we have to deal it. The phone cannot send a message to that chinese phone number without the app. I know that you are wondering how you willl send messages then but let me tell you that you will be able to. You just wont be using the inbuilt sms app. Go to playstore and download messages by google. It is an sms app made by google. install it and set it as the default sms app. Thats it. Clear the cache of the previous sms app snd force stop it if possible. Thats it. You are good to go.

download "NoRoot firewall" from Google play store, you will authorize any app that wants to connect to internet and disable "gionee push".
