Igbos Play No Part In Shagari's Victory In 1979,with Fact! by OneNorth1destiny: 3:22pm On Apr 28, 2020 |
This is to inform the uninformed through this medium, that the 1979 presidential election which was contested by five candidates of five political parties;Alhaji Shahu Shagari of the NPN,Chief Obafemi Awolowo of the UPN,Dr Nnamdi Azikwe of the NPP,Alhaji Aminu Kanu of the PRP and Alhaji Waziri Ibrahim of the GNPP,was the first time that the country will be introduced to the presidential system of government. However, our concern is the errorneous belief or insinuations that the Igbos in the National Party of Nigeria (NPN)then, play any significant role in the victory of Alhaji Shahu Shagari in the 1979 presidential election. Please be informed that Shagari's victory in that keenly contested election has Nothing do we Igbos supports or not but that was brought into POWER BY SOLELY NORTHERN VOTES.Even with this the Igbos benefited most in terms of political offices held despite with THEIR INCONSEQUENTIAL SUPPORT,this i mean they held the post of the vice-president as well as the speaker.Below are the result: 2 Likes 1 Share |

CANT. PARTY SCORE Alhaji NPN 566885 Shahu Shagari Chief UPN 491655 Obafemi Awolowo Dr Nnami NPP 282252 Azikwe Alhaji PRP 173211 Aminu Kanu Alhaji GNPP 168648 Waziri Ibrahim By looking at this, where are the Igbo votes that was alleged to have'help' the Shagari's victory in the election. Now,with this result, whereby the the total votes scored by both Awolowo and Azikwe which represent Southern votes when added together it would still be far below all the votes of the three Northern candidates put together. SO,THE POINT TO TAKE FROM THIS IS THAT,THE IGBOS ARE TRUELY THE 5%ERS, THAT THEY ARE BEING CALLED,THE SAME THING REPEATED ITS SELF IN THE 2019 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION LAST YEAR,WHEREBY 21% OF THE VOTES WAS GIVEN TO ATIKU ABUBABAR DESPITE FIELDING ONE THEM AS HIS VICE-PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE IN THAT ELECTION. 2 Likes |

Why is that Igbos dont vote their own during election whether they stand alone or as a running mate to a northern, hoping to benefit where they not sow. Let go back to memory lane, except the disputed 1979-1984 or so,all the other election involving an Igbo man as a vice-presidential flag bearer to a northerner have always ended in a defeat! so it seems these just like to benefit where they have never sow,is that not calling the rest of us fools. Now,another election is coming and they have started clamouring for the two major political parties for both present their tribes' men as their candidates, who does that, you dont dictate to the party leadership which geopolitical zone their presidential candidate to come from. Sorry, you have no such power, nobody has! |
