Makavelli25: My first story is a little bit similar to the op's own I was traveling with my uncle son to go see one of my uncles, bus were so scarce that day and the sun was freakishly hot, we later saw a bus that stopped for us but for some reason my uncle son refused to let us take the bus. It took us about 5 minutes to see another bus (meanwhile I was groaning and grunting inside of me). On our way going we saw that the previous bus has had a fatal accident and the bus was just in poor shape. My uncle son looked at me and said that's supposed to be us in there. I still use to look at him coronally till date 5 Likes |

Another similar experience I had was while I was traveling with my dad and my junior brother So we are basically 3 waiting for a bus under the super hot sun lest I forget it was Christmas season We were at the bus stop for up to an hour and all the bus that were passing were either filled up or not going our way Few minutes later a bus parked in front of us and told us to come in, you seriously need to see the speed at which I wanted to use and enter. But my dad held my hand and said We are not going, the conductor said again with a very compelling voice that we should come in and my dad said No we are not going(This time taking 2 steps backwards) It was then that I now looked at the color of the bus, it was orange and brown and all the people inside were all men, the driver has a very bad eye and the conductor looks like someone that's very dangerous. And above all there was only one seat left, so how were they inviting us to enter So they sha left and it was then that my dad explained to me that it was either a One chance vehicle or ritualist vehicle and that I should be careful when trying to get a bus on my own. Na him make me dey spend at least 2 hours for bus stop when traveling alone lol |

Mine was many years ago, in a boarding school located somewhere around the north central of Nigeria. Back then, we usually go to do our laundry and fetch water in some not to far away streams. One Saturday morning, a group of us, like 12 'seniors' (i.e final year guys) decided to go far up to track the source of the stream water flowing down the hilly terrain. After a long walk across many hills, happily plucking up mangoes, cashews, and other fruits from trees along the way, and passing through several Fulani settlements, we arrived at the base of a massive waterfall. The beauty surrounding the sounds and sights of unending flow of water, rushing down from very high up the fall, is best left to one's imagination. The lovely glow of mother nature still lingers in my memory like it's just a week ago. Somewhere around the bottom like most waterfalls, was a rather tranquil 'swimming pool' with a little 'beach' by the side of a mass of solid rock, and all that we desired after the exhausting journey was a cool bathe under the midday sun. One after the other, we started jumping into the water. At least, I occasionally bathe and 'swim' inside the streams near our hostels when we go to wash our clothes, so I was sure I could swim. So, I jumped in as well. Everything went fine for like 15 minutes or so, as I joined in displaying my back, side, freestyle and butterfly stokes. Lovely memories! Suddenly, my energy level began to drop, it felt like I was being pulled down by a force, tried endlessly to maintain my motion. All my struggles seemed to go unnoticed by any of my colleagues. At the bottom of the pool, I tried with all my energy to push myself up using my feet. As I surfaced, I remember water rushing into my mouth and nostrils when I tried calling out for help. Everyone else seemed busy having the fun of their lives, not knowing that someone closeby was dieing. Years after, when I first told my wife is story, and one other near death experience I had while driving, I woke up to see her sobbing that night, she was probably overwhelmed. Well, all I can remember today of that experience, while I was down under and desperate to survive, I tried to hold onto a leg that moved above me, but quickly lost grip. Time stood still, deep inside the clear body of water, I gradually began to give in to death's grip. Everything other thing that happened afterwards I honestly cannot recall. According to the story that went round later in the hostel and school in general, I was told that a certain guy noticed I failed to resurface after my second struggle at the surface, dived in to you for me. He succeeded in pulling my body up from the bottom, assisted by on boy nicknamed "old school". A while later, they all managed to revive me after forcing out from my nose and mouth, some water I had gulped. I have no memory of all that happened during the divine rescue. In summary, that student was used by the Almighty to save my life that day. Where ever you are today, Peter; I wish you long life, good health, and many joyful memories.... Thank you once more bro. 3 Likes |

Another experience I had was back in 2013, I just gained admission to the polythecnic and it was literally a strange land for me I had someone processing the schooling for me while I sat at home doing nothing The only time I visited the school was to sign and submit my acceptance letter; I and my dad used the opportunity to secure a housing accommodation for me on that said day (Dad is Familiar with the place) So the next time I was traveling there was on my own and I was to resume to school the following week Dad ensured he put me in a bus by himself and told me the name of the bus stop I would alight from So I started playing games with my phone until the battery eventually dies and then I slept off only to be woken up by the conductor and some people in the bus that I have reached my bus stop With sleep still in my eyes, I started looking around trying to really understand if I was at the right place, but then the conductor asked is it not akinmutimi bus stop again (Name changed for security purpose) and I was just confused, but the place looks familiar so I nodded and alighted from the bus. It was when I dropped that I fully remembered the name of the bus stop, it was actually akinwunmi(sounded so similar to where I was dropped) so I walked a bit backwards and saw a hair dresser shop and I asked to know if I was at the right place only to be told that where I was going is actually the next bus stop and not too far from where I was So I went back to the road and stood for about 15 minutes, buses or cab were rarely stopping and there were no bike on the road unlike Lagos state So then I decided to start trekking since the hair dressing woman already pointed where I was going to I started trekking with my traveling bag and school bag in hand, I was just exhausted, meanwhile I kept trying to wave down buses. I kept motivating myself that I will soon be there.. It was then I looked ahead of me and saw a mad man approaching towards me, the man was walking slowly and not too far from me I started having some fear in my heart like I was in a dangerous place because I was sorrounded by bushes and it was just me and the mad man walking on the road with fast zooming cars, taxis and busses Few seconds later when I was very close to the mad man, a bike parked beside me and asked me where I was going, I explained to him and he told me to hop on, I was like No! The man told me that I was not going to get a bus here and with the loads I was carrying I'll be too exhausted to walk, I still said No meanwhile the mad man had stopped walking and was busy talking to the bushes. I in my stubborn state told the man that I don't take rides from strangers The man then looked at me and said that the spirit of God told him that I was in danger and that was why he stopped to carry me (I did not even wave him down, he just parked beside me) He said again cmon hop on let me carry you to where you are going Then I thought in my mind that I can always jump down from the bike if he tries passing my bus stop so I hoped on with my load in front and on my lap I think we passed the mad man for about 1 minute when the bike man petrol keg fell from the back seat (He tied it to the iron) so he stopped and told me to go get it. The mad man eyes were really fixed at me and I started thinking maybe the bike man and the mad man were working together. I got the keg and walked back fastly. Then I hoped on again, then the man started chatting with me telling me that God wants to use me, that the spirit of God just kept telling him that I needed help else the need to stop and carry me. He told me the name of his church and we coincidentally attends the same church just in a different branch. Luckily he dropped me at my bus stop and asked for my name. He then said God bless you while I thanked him for the lift, I crossed to the other side of the road and boarded a bike to my apartment Here's the interesting part, I think I was already in my second year first semester when some of my classmates were reading a news of a kidnappers den that was discovered at our town and they were mentioning the name of the bus stop. My phone was faulty at the time so I couldn't Google the news from the keywords I was getting from their mouth So I just walked up to the group of them reading the news peeped at what they were looking at and it was the same mad man that I had an encounter with some few months back He was a kidnapper/serial killer pretending to be mad, people in the vicinity said that he usually relates and play with everybody but a young boy went inside the uncompleted building where he usually sleeps to go play. They said the boy rushed out shouting and that was when people in the neighborhood went in and saw skulls, uniforms, wrist watches, cloths of both gender, fingers, and different types of body parts You seriously need to see how my feet were shaking on the ground while looking at the picture. I was not myself for a full week, I kept thinking what if that bike man had listened to my rude self telling him No Thank you when he wanted to carry me I just kept thinking what if the bike man has not stopped at all, what if and plenty what if's I have had plenty near death experience and I just thank God for always giving me the grace to overcome. Because it's God grace that has upholded me until this very day 4 Likes 1 Share |
